Have an 86 or 88 Johnson 6.0 2 stroke just got from my dad, was his father's
It is clean and was running 2 years ago
twist throttle will not move 1mm now
throttle linkage will not move with cable attached; moves freely with it removed
got into the twist throttle, can't move the cable at all from either end (linkage or twist)
do i assume this cable is the culprit?
I cannot seem to remove it
    any tips would be appreciated!
    Can upload pics if needed
    thanks ya'll

    Update
Got cable out, it was seized pretty bad
Been working some blaster into it and it’s free and moving again.
Plan on doing that for a couple days then putting it back together

Use good synthetic 2 cycle oil and a little Seafoam in the fuel
New spark plug. I’ve found the NGK plugs work the best in 2 strokes
    I definitely need a pic

My suggestion is to start with carburetor/s as ethanol gasoline is most likely the cause of sudden death and vintage motors worst enemy...

I have no doubt it will fire up and run once I get the cable functioning again
Using ethanol free high octane in it

    Me too...
Also check the gas tank for rusting conditions, ethanol gas (if used previously) absorbs moisture and promotes internal gas tank rust conditions which creates carb problems as well.

    The Dirty T

I'm betting on needing either a carb rebuild or replacement, depending on how long it has sat. Even ethanol free gas will turn to varnish and really screw shit up. I've worked on old motorcycles for years and the carb is the 1st place I start.

I'm with Azblue and have dealt with issues very similar on vintage motorcycles.

Edit addition: Gas tank rusting and six carburetors clogged due to ethanol gasoline issues...

Reassembled throttle cable and it works at the moment
drained gear case today and fluid didn't look bad
changed plugs to NGK - cylinders were still moist but I added some wd40
old plugs didn't need to be replaced per se
hit every grease point per manual
Prop turns freely in N; flywheel turns without resistance in F and R when I spin the prop
still haven't taken down gear case yet. Planning on that and fuel pump this weekend
Had to mess around with saltwater seized nuts and bolts on the trailer today adjusting bunkers and adding new eye hooks - boat now sits level and doesn't flop around - nice
So far so good but I still haven't cranked it yet!
Checked out gas tank and surprisingly it is shiny inside

The most I've ever done before this is oil change, tire change, sprocket change on 2 wheelers and my vehicles. This is fun so far lol

decided to take a look at a wheel bearing on trailer - good thing i did.
One race was completely gone. Took a bit to get it off, haven't gone after the other yet but will be replacing both completely
will probably get 2 whole new hubs as well tomorrow and call it good.

My buddy just stopped by and drove off a beater santa fe that needs some work. He will soon be the youngest master Yota tech at only local dealership

    crow tastes like shit lol
haven't been able to turn it over for an hour now
only wanted to fire once about 20 pulls in, other than not not even a sputter from the cylinders
there is some exhaust coming out with every pull
the only thing i have not taken down is flywheel and carb
any advice before tearing it down and getting into something I know little to nothing about?
    last ran in 2016
about to throw a wrench through my garage windows between the money and time spent on the trailer and motor so far

eta - all hoses, gas tank, fuel pump and filter, gaskets, etc to me look OK

It’s not getting fuel. You gotta go through the whole fuel system...lines to tank, low pressure pump, carbs. I agree the carbs will need a rebuild after sitting that long.

I fixed up four pieces of lawn equipment for friends this spring. All four required carb work.

Also, make sure you’re choking and or priming it correctly.

i grew up on dirt bike since 4 years old, dad always had boats - i THINK I am choking correctly but also never started something that has sat this long
she wanted to fire once after spraying more 40 in the cylinders, which makes me think fuel prob like you had said

I was gonna say, if you u want to hear it fire up, squirt some fuel into the carb throat and start it. It should run for a couple of seconds.

Honestly I wouldn’t jump to replacing all the fuel lines unless I saw something obviously bad. I’d focus on the carb first. Also, not sure if these have a separate fuel pump like bigger outboards or if it’s built into the carbs like jet skis.

separate fuel pump it is tiny, just finished taking that off and apart, saw at least one screw fall into the trash can of water my motor is in right now. Def a learning curve LOL
It was wet all the way through so I know it's at least hitting the pump

carb off and inspected, float ball looks new, jet clear. Brought to marine shop and they looked it over tested it and said carb is g2g
just ordered OEM fuel pump, will replace and see what happens. There was a little corrosion on the check valves, i missed that the first time.
