Anyone have any experience with these? I spoke to Keith and he has pointed me towards the ARB. Is there anyone that regrets the Auburn????

    None, yet....
Never had the auburn, but I've had many ARBs in my life. I highly recommend them. It depends on your intended use for the truck. The lsd is a set it and forget it type thing. The ARB you'd have to turn on/off and plumb airlines. Although, you could get on-board air if you went ARB.

Keith has had experiences with glazing the clutches in the Auburn....I don't want that happening!!! I just want traction when it is needed. Would love to hava the diff locked to hook up better with the Supercharger.

Being SC'd, go ARB. Keith is giving you solid advice. Careful locking the ARB on the street. Essentially you just made a spool. Drag racing is fine, just don't lock or unlock under hard throttle.

It is a shame Yukon Zip lockers are not available for the Tundra. That is how I would go if available. Best warranty on the locker/broken parts (2000.00).

Go ARB, you can't turn off a LS if you get into a situation where it could be hampering you.

These are two different animals that's for sure.

It boils down to what you are using the truck for, having a LSD Auburn would be the best for daily driving in all weather, sometimes having the rear locked would not be a good idea, example: icy situations where you would need that slip to happen like going around a corner and you wouldn't want the rear end to kick out or hitting a patch of ice going down the road and having a potential of kick out. The LSD is designed to slip in situations like that so an accident does not happen.

The ARB locker engages the rear end to be locked at all times until disengaged which would be better for offroading and needed that extra grip to get out of that hairy situation.

Both are super solid options and have pros & cons.

Isn't true though...if you spin your tires too much that it can glaze the clutches in the LSD and make it basically useless?

I would look at what the LS is rated for. Some of the SC guys haven't had long term luck with the LS

If you abuse something, by say "spin your tires too much", then it will break. Always pick the right tool for the job.

There are cone style clutch mechanisms, but not like a posi-trac or a clutch material.

Here is the G80 locker in the back of my GMC HD. It has clutch mechanisms.

So looking at the Auburn, the cone style clutch engages in the differential housing....from what I can see. Kinda crappy these only have 1 year, 12K mile warranty and cannot be rebuilt.

Looking at the ARB, they now have a 5 year warranty. Not bad if you ask me. I have damaged an ARB before, and parts are available for rebuilding/fixing. The extra money sucks, but I would rather have the best for what is offered.

One of the reasons mine is still new in the box downstairs and not in the truck.

I know many could jump in and say they have many tens of thousands of reliable miles on them. I just backed away from putting that much effort into something that might not last as long as the truck.

For a stock power truck, I would doubt you would have an issue for many years.

Don't get me wrong, ARBs have issues as well. Some of mine over the years, and I have owned 6 in different axle applications:

-air lines crimped, burnt, cut. Make sure you have a splice with you at all times. I also left plenty of line in a coil under the vehicle (zip tied up) so when something happened, it was a quick fix.

-solenoids going out. Carry a spare.

    -fuses for your system

    - had a compressor seal go out once and wouldn't build air pressure. The o-ring was bad. Lucky for me, I was running a D44 with lockout hubs. The o-ring seal for the hub fit nicely on the compressor. I just left it since it worked so well.

    - using your ARB compressor to air up tires should be an emergency application only. To air up a 35" tire from 10-13 psi to normal operating pressure would take forever on just one tire. One can literally order a pizza and eat it before all 4 tires are aired up.

    - O-ring going from copper tube into ARB can leak. That blows.

Drill and tap the differential housing. This is actually very easy to do. Just keep in mind where it needs to be and clearances.

Currently, I don't run any air lockers and been very happy with that decision, but my rig is off-road only.

I wouldn’t say that’s normal. Definitely an exception to the rule, unless you were trying to rock crawl with a LS.

Haha, no sir. I got into some snow parking lots a handful of times, but my truck is far from a rock crawler. Daily duties in the winter months, doesn't get driven all that much the rest of the year.

Interesting. Did you ever get down to the root cause of the failure?

This is not normal, but you do have a lot of snow in your area.

It's going back to Auburn soon (they do have good customer service) and I'll probably get a free replacement, which will go in. As for the root, maybe they can uncover that. I don't want to have to baby the thing, my car runs an adjustable osGiken Diff. The posi in the car has worked flawlessly for years with lots of thrashing,

Tag me on here when you get the results. Besides a faulty installation, must have been some defective parts.

Glad this company is standing behind their products.
