Boost/ vacuum readings?? They are coming from somewhere....

Please let me know if I should be posting this in another thread, but I thought the guys here would know best... I really want to figure this out, so if there is a better thread for it, can you help me move it?

I have been repeatedly told that there is no MAP sensor on the Tundra, however, using both a scanner and the cheap TorquePRO app I am getting vacuum and boost readings from somewhere. The readings are consistent with what I would expect (pics below).

Is it possible the 2019's (and possibly 18's) have added a MAP sensor? Or are the readings coming from some MAF calculation? Can they be trusted?

Here is a link to a part number I found from Toyota for a MAP sensor for 2018-2019. On their site it says it fits 4.6L v8 and couldn't confirm on the 5.7. I was pretty sure there was no 2019 4.6L, so this must be the part for the 5.7, right?

    https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_2019_Tundra-CREW-MAX-SR-5-46L-V8-AT/62971950/8942147010.html

I also found it on Rock Auto under 5.7L MAP sensor:

Below are the readings from my NON-TUNED 2019 with harrop 2650. I know it is running to lean under BOOST after reading this forum and am just waiting on the base tune now from the Tundra tune pack.

    -Idle - >1,000 RPM's - 17-20 in/HG vacuum
    20200618_150632.jpg
    - Driving light load > 2,000 RPM's - 8 in/HG (generally under 10) vacuum
    20200618_150639.jpg
    - Medium acceleration- 2500 - 3500 RPM's (ish) - 2 - 4 PSI Boost
    20200618_150643.jpg 20200618_150646.jpg
-Close to WOT- 7 PSI boost
    No pic

I also took some pictures of the MAP sensor from Rock Auto as well as the diagram from Toyota (trying to point to it with my finger). I looked for the sensor and couldn't find it, looks a little different now due to the supercharger.

    Thanks for your thoughts!!!

The only thoughts that I have that may be relevant, are that any of my information is based on my experience with my 2011, things get updated and changed. Looking at the pictures, I can say that my MAF sensor does not look like that, I don't think my truck has a MAP sensor anywhere, not that I've noticed. Maybe it's something that's been added to the systems on more recent models. I hope that I haven't been muddying the waters too much.

I think that this information is related enough to discuss in this thread...I'm okay with it.

I’ve been a Toyota tech for 15 years.
There is no MAP sensor on the 5.7l Tundra engine.
Only the 4.6l engine has one.
The ECU has no idea what vacuum or boost there is in the manifold.
The readings you are seeing are likely approximations done by your app.

Pop your hood and see if you can find that sensor.

    I am 99.99% sure no 5.7L has a MAP

Toyota has MAP sensors on some of their odd engines like the 2.7L, for emissions stuff

Thanks for your help! Do you think I can trust the readings for my purposes, or do I need to order a boost gauge? Is everyone else running boot gauges?

I was originally going to buy this before I saw the readings on my app, Innovate MTX-D 3851
    https://www.innovatemotorsports.com...light-gauge-kit-p-n-3851.html?category_id=273

I like the display to the decimal point, but it also says it has a serial port/cable if I ever want to use it for data logging.

Since were on the subject of gauges, can you also explain about the o2 sensors? The engineer at Harrop told me that the stock ones (at least in the 2018-2019, did not ask about other years) are wide-band sensors and will work for the readings I need, just might take slightly longer for readings since the data has to run through the ECU.

Is the correct on the new Tundra, or do I need to add an additional o2 gauge also?

    Thanks!

Pop your hood and see if you can locate that sensor. I'd like to know for sure

Most toyotas have wide band AFR sensors on the front.
Thing is they are only scaled to read as rich as 11.88. Below that it is "unknown"
Toyota actually has their own 4 wire wideband design that uses a control current and voltage reading off that, where stoic is maintaining 0.3 volts blah blah blah etc.. it's widebandish

Ill check for the sensor later today when I get back to my truck and update. Sounds like I should probably add a dedicated o2 sensor to be safe.

BTW, I purchased the VF + cable and the Tundra tune pack. Super excited for that!!

as far as boost, i'm tapped into the nipple on the driver's side of the S/C to my gauge, and i "believe" the readings are accurate. the gauge came with 3 bar sensor. Innovate powersafe PSB-1 boost/wideband. on my build page.Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 3.04.59 PM.jpg

@OVTune, Can I ask if these are going to be sent out some time, or are we just going to skip to the next phase? Thanks!

I have vFTuner setup on my new laptop, do I use my credits for anything at this point or am I probably as far as I can go until the transition from .p5f files to .vft files?

That's the same port and gauge I use for boost too, I also used a cheapo analog gauge to confirm the boost and it seemed accurate and the wideband matches the trucks O2 sensor readings from the OBD2 readout exactly.

I have the vF Tuner, but apparently I was confused when I ordered it as a brand new ticket, instead of as a current customer with the Tundra tuning. I haven't used any of the credits, and don't plan to unless I'm told otherwise. I realized my goof when I asked Mat if I should just use my current OV Tune file instead of the base one.

This was my biggest question, if the vf tuner can be used to tweak the OVTune for my specific truck... I don't want to have to start over and try to get back to the OV, just want to modify if I need a little more or less fuel, if I want to change shift points, change injectors, etc.

From what I've read we will get copies of our tunes so we can turn on gear lock, or turn it off. That's what I've read here (I believe), but I believe someone will let me know if I'm wrong.

How I'm imagining it in my head is that he'll get all the (hundreds of) tunes updated with fixes, patches, etc. Then they'll all need to be rejiggered from their current existence as .p5f files to .vft files that can be manipulated in vFTuner so that we can pretend we know what we're doing, until we realize we don't. :D See, I think I've even convinced myself that what I said makes sense. ;)

This was my mindset as well. Then I got to wondering if I would be able to somehow get a .vft file to toy with in the software in an effort to familiarize myself with it in the interim, as I seem to have some free time at present.

I'm just wondering since I dont have any tune on my truck if I am going to be able to do anything with it. I'm just looking to refine it and leave it alone with no knowledge of what I'm doing!

I guess that you could just wait to see how you feel about the base tune that you'll get first, then worry about what comes next.

@OVTune Hey guys. I have tried to download the data logger and the VF program and my Norton keeps marking it is a virus and blocking it. I haven't had this happen with any other programs so I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this. I just want to make sure I am 100 % good before overriding Norton. Is this usual? Here are the logs from Norton. Thanks!

    VF Tuner main program download:

    Filename: vFFlashTool.exe
    Threat name: Heur.AdvML.BFull Path: C:\vF Tuner\vF Tuner\vFFlashTool.exe
