I’m at 44,000 miles and considering going to Amsoil with a 10-15k mile service interval using OEM filters. Anybody have experience with Amsoil in these trucks? In my former turbo diesel days Amsoil was very well respected and widely used.

Amsoil would be better I think but IMHO.... 20K is too long. For me, it doesn't matter what oil I use, I change within 10000KM/ 6000Mi. I know, oil analysis is good pass 20K but oil change is cheap.

I just ordered 9qts of Amsoil XL and their filter. It’s around $90 shipped with the PC membership and free shipping. I’m gonna go 10k in it. I’ll send a sample to Blackstone at the 5k mark and then again at 10k.
There is a huge thread on here about Amsoil and the OP has some excellent info and research done on the topic. His thread sold me on Amsoil.

    Here is the thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/oil-filter-change-23k-miles-one-year-updated.37158/

I have used Amsoil for years in everything I own with no problems. 197k trouble free miles on my 1st gen Tundra that I just sold in Feb20. I've never gone over 5 or 6 k on change interval though.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
    This^^^
I’ve used RP products for years and never had a problem. I had a Camry I used for work years ago that had over 300K on it when I sold it.
That said, when considering how light weight the recommended oil is, I wanted to be sure I run the best.
Amsoil is a race-proven. IMO, if it stands up to the rigors and performance requirements and tolerances of the race trucks, it’s certainly good enough for my truck.
I just switched on my last oil change in April. Going to go 10k on it.

Both are good oils, however, I prefer to use an oil that is readily available which is why I use Mobil 1, Valvoline or any other synthetic oil.

For super long intervals like that I would go Amsoil Signature or M1 EP/M1 Annual. You’d want a good filter like M1 EP, TRD or Amsoil as well. I would not use something that expensive for a 5-10k oil change though

0w-20 Mobil 1 EP is 70% PAO. 0w-20 Amsoil SS is???? Who knows because they won't tell you. The issue is not whether or not Amsoil is good oil - it absolutely is based on every UOA I've ever seen. The question is whether or not Amsoil is worth the very significant extra cost? Now I know people who obsess over the difference between $23.99 and $24.50 and I get how annoying that sounds. But $4.99/quart vs $13.30/quart. If you don't care about potentially spending significantly more for possibly no benefit then use Amsoil with confidence. If that seems silly and you still want a very good extended drain oil then I'd go Mobil1 EP any day and all day. FWIW all of my engines run Pennzoil PP.

Where in Alaska are you? I freaking miss that place :( just couldn't afford to live there.
For oil, I use mobil 1- I know up there Amsoil isn't too hard to find so whatever you really want to use lol

There's a lot of things up in AK not too hard to find but it comes at a premium cost. Most everything comes by slow boat barge up into the Cook Inlet to Anchorage. Anything by air is usually essential goods that don't weigh several tons....my rent in Anchorage was cheaper than Denver Metro now. AK isn't too bad on certain things. The trade off is worth it. I spent 10+ months up there. This time of year is to die for. Bucket list. Winter is to die....heh...heh..

Yeah, I lived up there 2 years. Winter is the best time of year(or MAYBE late spring).

I disagree, it depends where you live though. I never had any trouble finding anything on the KP--anchorage is even easier!
My rent in Homer was similar to my house payment is now--I want to build equity, sell and maybe move back and retire!

I prefer the cold but when I was up there in Nov/2011 to August 2012.....record winter...to this day...a record winter snowfall. My friend had a lodge that he and his brother built in Ninilchik. Beautiful. I flew up to Kuparik, CP facility, and then drove up to Milne Point. February. -70 F outside. A BP facility. For 9 days. Went back up to Milne Point on Memorial Day, was a brisk 32 F. We would drive into Prudhoe to fly back out. Musk Ox everywhere. A Nat Geo moment... Kuul

Extreme temp changes require a good oil. Buy accordingly....

Homer Spit, as you know, is crazy with Bald Eagles when the canneries are up and running. Hundreds of Bald Eagles on the nearby beach....bucket lister stuff.

Can't catch "reds" in the winter. Nothing better than getting reds on the Russian...

Ohhhh yeah I love that cold, I wish I didn't miss this winter.... I love that crap LOL, cold>hot any day.
Ninilchik is beautiful--right around the corner to the volcanos across the bay lol

That is freaking cold... -70??? Heck you have to run your car the entire time or it won't start again!

I agree that cold needs good oil.
I ran 0w-20 and didn't have issues but I was in the "higher" negatives :)

BP had probably at least 50 F-250"s "plugged in" 24/7 at the Milne Point parking lot unless being used of course. Nobody worked outside in those conditions. No smokes, no booze, but you could have prime rib 800 miles north of Anchorage. BP provided gourmet chefs to cook the food. A first class gym. WE HAD SATELLITE TV AND WI-FI too!!! I rarely use CAP's but kuul to have 1st world stuff 3 miles from the Chuchi Sea, way north of the Arctic Circle  Not sure what oil BP was using but every F-250 had GoodYear Dura Tracs. I noticed that right away because my 09 Taco had them and quite frankly they did quite well driving up to AK and back.

I’ve looked at multiple wear tests and Amsoil is the best. Valvoline was better than Mobil1 as well. I’ve always used Valvoline in all of my vehicles and have never had any issues. Doing it myself I wouldn’t go higher than 10,000 miles per change though.

Please post the "wear test" link that you looked at where Valvoline was "better" than Mobile-1 and under what conditions..........

Valvoline isn't better than mobil 1.
First time I ever used valvoline synthetic the engine died in my corvette... literally started knocking about 100 miles later.... now I can't say for sure it was oil related; however, I never had an issue with mobil 1

Following this. Can't hurt. I like the possibility of a decent 10K change. Once a year oil change for me would be ideal since I average 10K tops a year.

    Amsoil

It's not any more expensive than regular oil. You can go 3x or 4x longer on amsoil, so even at higher initial cost, after 15k or 20k miles between changes, it's not anymore money. They have a 25k mile oil. If your spending the extra and still changing ever 5k miles, your kinda throwing money away. But you would have clean oil all the time.

We moved from AK (military) two years ago; Charleston SC was a big shocker! I miss it too. The cost isn’t extreme (20% more than Mobil1) and I’ll extend to 10-15K miles.

To support your point more, I believe there is a point of diminishing returns with oil or said another way, you get to a point where you can't reduce friction anymore, you can't increase the stability of the oil anymore, you can't prop up the TBN anymore, and you can't get the engine any cleaner. Amsoil works well but PP works just as well for much less. With Mobil 1 EP you can't even really claim Amsoil is as cost-effective because you can only drive 5K more miles on it.

As I said, it's not that Amsoil isn't great oil, it's that there are many other oils out there that are just as good for much less...PP being one of them.

It's funny how these oil threads develop. The OP asks about two oils specifically and the thread slowly turns into a giant oil debate. It's funny cuz this always happens without fail.
