For all who are interested, here are the results from Blackstone Labs on my oil sample sent in last month. My CM had 100,183 miles on the clock when I changed the oil. Miles on the oil were 23,090, 12 days shy of one year since last oil/filter change. No oil used, no oil added between changes. Amsoil 0W-20, and Amsoil filter.

Blackstone explains the numbers on this link https://www.blackstone-labs.com/services/report-explanation/

Awesome, I am about to send my used oil in also. I am also using 0w20 Amsoil with an Amsoil filter. How hard do you work your truck? I work mine pretty hard towing some heavy loads I was wanting to extend the oil change interval.

Congratulations on the good outcome. But I would never have the balls to have tried it. Lol

I don't have a lot of idling or stop and go like some in the bigger cities would have. I live in the country, 20 miles from the nearest small town. I tow a 4500# boat to the gulf coast and back 5-6 times a year (500 miles round-trip) but nothing heavier. When I do travel, I don't waste any time. Usually run at 80-85 when I can get away with it. Put in a lot of miles traveling to Houston this year for cancer treatments. I'm about to send in oil samples from my wife's VW Beetle and my Suzuki outboard, too.

Hi Steve. I just use the regular Amsoil filter, EA15K04. I bought this truck in Nov 2015, with about 31K on it. Changed the oil and filter to Amsoil about a month later, and have done so yearly since, regardless of mileage (mileage was always less than 20K/yr until this year).

I've treated this truck just as I've treated every truck, car, tractor, etc. that I've ever had for the past 40 years (VWs, Jeeps, turbocharged Volvos, Ford products, diesel tractors, 4 stroke outboards). Never had any vehicle or engine ever give me a bit of mechanical trouble. And I've always kept the vehicles long enough to have well over 100K, a couple had almost 300K.

I change my oil once a year too. Full synthetic and Toyota filter. I don't really put more than 10k miles a year though. I was going to switch to an annual amsoil but for my mileage it's not really worth it

    Happy new year Steve!!!
Where do you get the amsoil products?
I use Toyota filters and whatever brand name synthetic that is on sale. I do a yearly oil change which is usually under 10k miles.
Should I switch to amsoil? I've often thought of it but figured under 10k miles with off the shelf stuff should be ok

Thats awesome. I send them my outboard oil every year at the end of boating season. Good way to check health of the engine!

Might be dumb question but what's different or superior about Amsoil?? Just a better product than other 0W-20's being offered?

Well, I don't mean to sound like a pitchman for Amsoil, but I've used it for almost as long as it's been around, since the late 70s. I know how it's formulated. Went to a number of seminars back then, when they were first forming up. I had in mind at the time that I might become a dealer. I never did, but have always used their products, have always done the one year/25000 mile changes on the motor oil, and have always trusted them. I can't speak for other manufacturers, 'caused I've never used anything else. They ae more expensive than most, but I have a preferred customer account, which allows me to buy at dealer cost.

Wow. Nice numbers for sure. I hate to say I'm an Amsoil fanboy but this just backs up my experiences with thier product in other vehicles I've owned.

Like Mike, (2 posts up) I've been a 'preferred customer' which costs me $20 a year, for several years. Everything I own that has an engine uses Amsoil. Wife's old 04 Pilot has 351,000 miles on it with all major parts stock, has had Amsoil products from new. I use their Signature Series 5W30 in my 2010 Tundra, along with their EAO Filter. My truck has 81,000 issue-free miles on it and I expect nothing less.

BTW, I'm also using the Amsoil gear lube in the diff, and last May did a full tranny flush with 14 qts of Amsoil ATF.

I knew it..... we not only have the same name, we're TWINS:eek2::laughing: I have Amsoil Severe Gear in the Diffs and their ATF in the Tranny+ everything that gets greased, gets one form of Amsoil's grease or the other. Their "Hotshot" Gas Treatment keeps our 'corn-gas' from destroying my fuel systems too.

I've been a preferred customer for about 8 years now and ran Amsoil exclusively in my '07 5.7L in the engine, trans, diffs and x-fer case. I just sold that truck with 235k miles on it and it still ran like new and burned no oil. However, I always wen't 15k on my oil changes because I thought I had read that the Amsoil filter was only good for 15k while the oil was good for 25k miles. I was more than happy with a 15k mile change interval.

Good to find this post and thread. I just completed my first oil change ever....yes ever on any car. Used AMSOIL 0-20 and matching filter and my plan was to repeat each December given I ride about 12k a year under light loads. My heaviest pull is a 15 foot Jon boat.

Been doing yearly Amsoil changes since it was new. 120K and no issues. All my vehicles get Amsoil and yearly changes. I don't have time to change it every 3 months.

You made me go look. and you're correct. the EA15K series filters have a service life of 15k miles or one year. The EAO filters are good for 25K or one year. Before the Tundra I always had the EAO filters, so I never thought much about it. Still, all my oil changes on the Tundra (all 4 of them) have been between 18k and 23K miles, so I guess I'll keep on keepin' on. Actually they don't make a filter for my wife's VW, so I use the Mann filter that they sell, and it's on there for the year, too. But she only puts 8-10K/yr on that car.

What are your driving habits? Meaning, what is your average week like? How many miles? Stop and go, or HWY? Tow or haul a lot? All of those things matter in how an oil performs in the engine. I'm curious of your driving schedule. Thanks.

Damn good results! Looks like you’re averaging somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 miles per week.
Thanks for the info and I hope the treatments to Houston were successful.

Main thing to consider concerning oil changes is what type of driving has been done.

Highway driving is easier on the engine.

City driving is harsher on the engine.

    Heavy Service is considered:
    1) City driving
    2) Short trips
    3) Towing/Hauling

Regardless of your ‘Brand’ one should change oil at 3k for city (see heavy service) and 5k highway. Its more important to have quicker/fresher changes with ‘ Regular Formula’ than extended changes with ‘Super Formula’.

Synthetic is so cheap right now and if you DIY you can save huge. Oil changes are cheap insurance.
