The house and the garage were bought out of the sears catalog and came and a kit to assemble. Truely amazing product... I mean this house was built in the early 30s and it’s more solid than a lot of new 200k homes

The misses & I were doing airb&b for a few years and this would turn some serious cash in the right location.

To top it off all the people that financed before the depression hit, sears just ate to losses and ended the program. They didn’t leave anyone homeless

 

Funny thing is I've been driving around my neighborhood looking at what's for sale and hanging out with you guys in between. This little house has caught my attention.

Went ahead, and order another smaller can of POR. bummer.

Also, went ahead and painted the rear with what I had. Wind was WHIPPING today.

1 Coat of primer.
2 coats of Black semi-gloss enamel
2 coats of High gloss crystal clear enamel.

Do I even need the POR now? Lol hell this be looking good. With a grease rub, and pb blast it should last, eh?

Also, set the drivers side leaf in place.

I met an old guy in Moreno Valley once who told me about how he got his house. While he was deployed in the 70s, his new wife was looking at a newly developing neighborhood and he gave her a budget to shop for a house. She wrote to him saying she got one and sent him the address, but she didnt give much details.

When he got home and looked it over and liked it, he asked how much they paid.

Under two thousand dollars. The builder had just completed that neighborhood and was doing others when an economic crisis hit, he couldn't continue so he sold all for dirt cheap to recoup what he could.

He couldn't believe it, he said shit why didn't we buy three or four?

I wonder if he still owns the house, easily worth 350-400k now.

 

This is why I'm driving my neighborhood. I'm on furlough collecting that measly unemployment check and the misses is working 4 hours a day. We acting like we have $$$, truth be told we are hanging in there but it ain't pretty. But this is Merica, we use somebody else's $$$ so I think I can

 

Yup. Conan owns a 92 emerald green. Hes had it on the show a few times back in the day. Jay Leno owns a SHOgun, a festiva with a SHO motor in the back. And being Jay Leno, he added spray to it. IIRC, they only made 7 of them.

 

Looks good! That frame will last long time. Not sure if you’ll even need a grease rub. Only reason I greased mine was it was easier than painting. Grease won’t hurt, but you look good to go.

I noticed after I sprayed PB on bolts and then pressure washed remaining dirt 2-3 days ago that water beaded up, and ran off the frame. CHOICE product.

Some pb had splattered onto frame.

 

Now that the sun is behind the neighbors row of apple/pear trees I can see Little spots i missed on the frame. Touching up now.

Sunshine be bright. I should be VERY dark after all this.

Can’t wait to work on my Axle Seal next week. Your latest project pics have been helping me visualize whenever I do my new leafs/bed removal. Those bed bolts have me a little scared, though.

I was scared too, and honestly wasn't sure if bed removal was the best course of action. After seeing all the rust on my frame come to light, and then disappear...
I think it was well worth it. Under the cab should prove to be the hardest part of the whole frame job I'm doing.

For your bed removal I recommend the A-frame method if you are by yourself, or so you can save yourself the back pain.
NEW ratchet straps will hold.
I WOULD NOT use old ones for that job if you go that route.

Using the A-frame method you can also use 2X6 boards laid across the horizontal part of A-frame, and then lower the bed down. Taking the strain off the Chinese sewing job. It is kinda tricky, and scary lowering bed with ratchet straps, but doable. I lived, and learned. Scratched up my bed here or there. Transferring Red oil-base paint to my bed.

If it helps you visualize the best way to lower I can draw a picture for you IF you go that route.

Heres what I did. If I did it again I would use 2 people for level, easy glide down to bottom

Red is A-frame.
Puple is Bed. (Obviously. Lol)
Blue is ratchet strap with extra long strap.
Pink dot is the ratchet itself.

How I lowered bed was grabbing the extra strap, and pulling it tight against ratchet.

Release the ratchet, and you have reduced amount of bed weight due to mechanical advantage of the ratchet acting as a pulley of sorts. I was able to hold the bed up like this with one arm, and lower it with both arms.

If I had went slower I could have lowered, and then engaged ratchet to hold weight. Go to the other side, and repeat. I was figuring it out as I went. Hopefully you can save more of your paint than I could

I saw my neighbor throwing out a few boxes of tile so I stopped to chat and check it out. Long story short, I am tired



And there is more of it in his garage, picking it up this weekend. 8X8 porcelain tile originally $5 sqft.

 

A bit ago you ( @Tundra2 ) mentioned mental images of some of us....
So my image of you was southern Irish for some reason. Then you posted that pic of you & your brother yesterday. Then you post this story about your POR15. There's just no doubt, you are carrying the tribes blood.

BTW - you do know (?) that POR15 has to be painted, it is not UV stable.
They do now offer POR-15 Top Coat which is UV stable.
Just FYI, in case.

What gave it away before the few pics of me, and my brethren? Thats super interesting to me that you pictured me that way.

I am aware that POR is paint on only, and that it is not stable in direct sunlight. I think I will forgo the rear of the truck on POR, and use it only under the cab where needed. I think that it will be shielded enough there from the sun to be okay in use.

I was pondering how exactly I will keep it from being in the sun in my current situation. There is just no way without having some building I could drive into. Even with my old, re-found love of portable canopys.
