I went for it last night. Ordered from Rock Auto $477.88 include tax to my door. From the pictures it looks like one side will be the non greeseable type which is fine with me. I'll just replace withe the greeseable type when needed. I'll post some pictures when they get here.

Just talked to Justin at SPC here in CO. Mevotech is a large customer of SPC's based out of Canada. The SPC UCA's that they are selling are in fact made by SPC but you get zero support from SPC. All warranty/support requests have to be made thru Mevotech which means that since Mevotech is mainly a supplier only, Mevotech has to deal with SPC directly for any kind of support if any. For instance, if you get a set of SPC's from Rock Auto and have issues....the claim process goes thru Rock Auto who would then have to deal with Mevotech in Canada who then in turn would have to go thru SPC here in Colorado. You are basically buying a "Mevotech" SPC without SPC customer support. When you buy a set from a local four wheel store supplier such as ToyTec for example, you pay more but get warranty and direct support from SPC and helping your local small business...…..and you get the new SPC's with greaseable ball joints and not old discontinued stock that Mevotech is apparently selling

Cool, glad I went with Mevotech and saved some money. Mine were new and have greaseable ball joints, just the different zinc coating.

I wouldn’t worry about it but if it really bothers you you can buy the ball joints for ~$125.

Thats the thing he did buy SPC. At this point its well documented that MEVOTECH are SPC with the difference being the MEVOTECH will come with either the 1st or 2nd gen ball joints. A guy would have to decide if the cost savings is worth it for them or not. I've had SPC on 4 different Toyota's and never had an issue with any of the ball joints, problem I always have is the damned noisy poly bushings.

I paid $452 for my MEVOTECH and they came with the 2nd gen greaseable ball joints. A feller could buy the lastest ball joints for $130 and still come out ahead and have an extra pair of ball joints.

Mevotech has their own warranty on them, and it’s the same as SPC. Doubt there would be a difference for end user, and probably no multi-level claim process involved for the consumer. :notsure:

I understand that they are manufactured by SPC.. But it seems like you're scraping the floor of the bargain barn and hoping for a good outcome.

If you pay $452 for the UCA, then another $125 for the ball join, you're out $577. Add in your time and you're out another $40-$50 per hour.

You can get official SPC UCA shipped from Colorado for $591. Supported by SPC. No tax. Seems like a no brainer to me.

You could also go with another tried and true option like Zone Offroad, JBA, etc.. And deal directly with the manufacturer and pay less than SPC.

I went with the Zone's. Quite beefy and comes with greasable Moog's that can be easily replaced .

I like saving money too - I get it. In a case like this I'd rather order from the manufacturer, pay a little more, and not have to deal with any surprises. You're right though, that is up to the buyer and how tolerant they are for these little bumps in the road that either have to be overlooked or overcome.

I run Zone too. I did on my old Tundra as well. I ran the old Tundra a lot harder than the new one and never had an issue. Greased them at 10k mile intervals.

I recall reading somewhere, maybe in this thread, that the ball joints in the Zones are smaller, but I haven't found any evidence of that..

Lol. You get Mevotech support with Mevotech though.
I ran the Zone didn’t align well at all but I like perfect alignment. They use a much smaller ball joint from 1st gen Tundra/4 runner if memory serves correctly, way smaller and probably not a good idea lol.

Can you find info supporting this? I don't think the size argument is true.

Both of my trucks aligned perfectly and are within factory specification, with caster on the high end but green.

Those companies are both newer than SPC. SPC was Light Racing before. And Light Racing definitely had its share of problems with their tubular arms and then somewhat rebranded to SPC and evolved. I have had 2 sets of the tubular's with moogs, and 1 set of the cast ones, never had issues with any. That was a tacoma and 100 series though.

    Check out this thread...

I've read where multiple Zone buyers had problems with their lifts/uppers and alignments :notsure:

Again, I'm interested if you can present that info. I've used them twice with no issues either time.

I use SPC forged UCAs on my 4runner and they're great too.

Based on my first trouble-free experience with Zone I used them again. Running 3.5" of lift on my Tundra and alignment is perfect.

The info comes from me. I used part numbers to verify at the time, but been a minute. Just go look at the physical size of them, hard to miss. I’m the alignment guy lol, could get in the “green”, but couldn’t get to 0 camber with them, so they were dead to me lol. Put TC on and perfect alignment. Admittedly don’t care for SPC, only upper control arms I’ve ever seen break, have some of their alignment tools that are a complete joke, and their leaky bumps on the rear of my truck could be better.

Here are my numbers from my last alignment and Zone UCAs.

Can't find numbers from my old truck but I recall they were the same.

I'm not saying people haven't had issues with them, but I personally haven't.
