Whenever I decide to turn AC on, the truck seems to barely surge while driving. It isnt very noticeable, not sure if I only notice it since I am the only one that drives it all the time when this happens. While going highway speeds, you can sort of feel it "nosedive" when it surges, or kind of like the power is being cut. None of my other vehicles do this, so wondering if this is somewhat normal, and if anyone else has had this issue.

My 01 tundra does the same thing, my 01 camry also does the same thing. Yours does it too, so its either a very common problem, or very normal. I'm Gonna go with normal.

My truck also never really seems to get cold, and takes forever for it to get "cold" at all. Could it be just low on frion/bad AC compressor?

Sounds like spinning your compressor is taking a lot of torque. That would explain the power cut. I think your compressor may be bad.
Now I really think your compressor is bad.

I started to think that more in the past couple weeks when I started to use AC more. 90% of the time i drive windows down. Feels like it 10 minutes for it to get remotely cold, but never "ice" cold. Especially if its over 75 degrees

First stick a meat thermometer in your vent to get a true reading. I think a properly charged and working system is supposed to register around 40-45 degrees at the vent.

The compressor cycles on and off, they don't run continuously. This is what you're noticing.

It is normal to feel a little bit of power loss when the AC kicks on but if it is like you say "nose dive" and you are loosing power then you have a problem with the compressor. I would say try and get a look at it, any rust, grease or something that should not be there is step 1. Leaking fluids can build up anywhere and if you don't use the ac for extended periods of time that grease can turn to sludge

I can't speak for everyone else's Tundra ~ only mine. It's done this since I took it over and the A/C system is fully charged and not leaking.
The vehicle had 20K on the clock when I bought it used and it now has 40K miles total.
The A/C was really weak from day one ~ it still is. It would only get cold in the cab (it's a RCLB) on a day that wasn't that hot to begin with.

Someone recommended running the A/C in the re-circulation mode ~ they were right ~ it seems to help immensely.

As far as doing a "nose dive" at freeway speeds ~ my Tundra does not exhibit this malady but I had an old Ford pickup truck that did exactly that.
The engine in the Ford was pretty weak (smog era engine tune) and the A/C pump took a lot of power from the engine to work while cycling on and off.

Not all trucks are the same, but my double cab will freeze me out on a 95 degree day after 15-20 minutes. I couldn't imagine having a regular cab with marginal a/c. That would be like having a big screen tv that only shows in black and white. Do 1st gens have a cabin air filter that could be part of the problem?

Both my RC Tundra trucks get ice cold with the AC on, the 2002 gets cold & stays cold now that the windshield has ceramic tint. I feel the compressor cycling on and off in the '02, but not in the '07... I guess the 5.7L has more power to spare.

That ceramic tint on the windshield is the best upgrade I've done.

It is amazing. I had it done on another vehicle during high summer and right away could feel the heat reduction. Made an appointment immediately after and had the Tundra sides fronts done with plans of doing the front windshield in clear later, but after a year don’t think its needed because the UV heat is reduced so greatly.

Just for reference, it was 95 with high humidity this weekend in Maryland. The food thermometer in my dash said 40 degrees with the recirculate button on fan on 3.
