When I change to MaxLife (far in the future), I will try to change the entire transmission fill at one time.

I remember reading here one member's experience attempting to change over to MaxLife by the drain and fill method. (No, there's no way in hell I can remember which member or what thread.) He did experience shifting problems initially, but as he continued with the drain and fill plan, all issues resolved themselves as he approached 100% change.

For evaluating use of a different fluid, I would rather not have the result confused by mixing the two fluids. I would want to know immediately if that different fluid was performing well.

Yeah I definitely agree. It's the only reason I am still considering just using WS fluid, simply because of the crazy process to check the fill level. I would like to use off the shelf fluid but also don't want to do more than a drain and fill so may have to stick with WS I'll do some more research and see if anyone else has done a drain and fill using MaxLife instead of ws. It's a shame Toyota had to eliminate the dip stick on the tranny. I guess we should just be glad we atleast still have a dip stick for the engine oil lol.

Lol you would change your tranny fluid based on something you read on the internet. Lol. I can tell you without a doubt your advice to switch transmission fluid, while you admit you haven’t is complete horse shit. Lol.

Tow package became standard equipment in 2014 for 5.7 lol. There are no 4.10 5.7 produced after 2013.

Welllll technically speaking it does. It's just very small. From my experience, driving while not towing on the highway, if you stay at 65 the small water cooled cooler can keep the temps at 200 or under. Traveling 80 though the temps stay around 220. But obviously would have been nice to have a cooler upfront.

From what I understood, on my 19, the coolant lines run down to a small cooler same as the oil cooler are you saying that changed on the 20? My trans oil temps stay almost the same as the oil temps so I take that to be true, I monitor them on every drive.

Pretty sure on the 2020 there is nothing but maybe I am mistaken. My trans temps range from 210 to 228. 228 was in the hills and had my camping gear and dirt bike in the truck.

This website has a lot of info...

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/2019-transmission-cooler.60550/

EDIT: Ok so all the 2019+ trucks have is coolant running to the trans. This acts as a warmer. There is no transmission fluid running to anything, it is completely sealed.

And in case your confused I’m on Tundra number 5, all gens, so I like them lol, and do stuff with them that only a few do. I do not like not being able to help members of this forum because I would have to argue with you over your long winded bs assumptions and conclusions. Have to call you a liar and break it down real, lame. Not for me. Lol. So you think that is helping, I don’t?

So that "warmer" is what Toyota is technically calling a cooler. In the winter it runs warm coolant to the trans to get it up to temp but it also acts as a cooler when the trans temps are higher than the coolant temps the coolant carriers that heat back to the radiator to be cooled. It's not as good as a cooler up front but it's why I said it technically does have a cooler.

Yeah I would think it's not even close to an actual cooler that directly cools the transmission fluid. A total joke as far as I'm concerned.

I agree. I'd like to know how much higher the trans temps would be without the warmer, not much is my guess.

I have a 2015 Tundra 4.6. Does not have a trans cooler, only heat exchanger. IfI have some ideas after looking at the heat exchanger. Can I disconnect the coolant lines and connect them together to bypass the exchanger. Take the trans fluid line that feeds the exchanger and extend it to a front mount aux cooler. Then run a return like from cooler to where the exit line for the exchanger went into the trans. There are 90 elbows coming out of the trans feeding fluid to the exchanger. They make block off kits for Dodge diesels to block or bypass the exchanger and only use the aux cooler. Had one on mine. Cooled the trans a lot better with out the exchanger. Never got to cold in the winter. Our Cherokee has 2 small aux coolers and never gets to cold in the winter. My Chevelle never gets to cold, on colder days. Here is a pic from a different model. But mine looks the same. Please let me know if this is possible or anyone else has done this.

So, on my 08 5.7, it does not have the tow package. I’ve monitored the transmission fluid temp for the last few months...pulling a 1000lb trailer. Gets up to around 211f. So my 7000lb camper will most likely go even higher. I’ll feel much better with the cooler. The 4.1 vs 4.3 rear end? I’m not too worried about that, 4.10 gears are still pretty tall. So, I ordered the thermostat plate, Along with the new orings, for the round heater. I’m gonna install it in the next couple of days. Also gonna do a drain&fill. Hardest thing is getting the truck perfectly level on my lift. But hopefully goes well.

Anyway, to anybody who cares. I was able to successfully install my cooler last night. Took about 2 hours. I installed the Toyota thermostat, with two new orings for the heater. That took about 5 minutes. Then, using about 12’ of 3/8” transmission cooler hose, ran it to the front where I mounted the new cooler. The new Tstat had a pin installed, so I left it, until I could run it a while, get a good flow through the cooler. When I was happy with no leaks, I pulled the pin.

Congrats on the upgrade , did you use any kind of protective heat shield sleeve on the 3/8" hose where it comes close to the exhaust near the bellhousing ? If not I HIGHLY suggest it !

The exhaust has a heat shield, I chose to run the hose around the oil pan, vs over the top. I did though, cut a radiator hose and wrap it around the tranny hoses. More for chafing protection, vs thermal. Then of course secured it in several places. I’ll run it a while, and check on it.

4F97E257-81D4-4E6C-99DC-327100B59DB4.jpg. This is me running @68 pulling 6500lb trailer. Was 78f at the time. Never got above this. I’m happy...before the transmission would be 215, pulling a 1000lb mower trailer.
