    Hello,
I bought a new Tundra and it came with a solid rear window but I would like a slider for ventilation. Safelite said if it doesn't have one now I can't put one in, the other place was convinced my truck was a crew cab and I already have a power window.

Has anyone swapped a solid rear window to a slider, manual or power?

    Thanks

I don't see why you can't put a manual slide window in. The opening is the same size.

Where are you from? I think I saw one on Craigslist in Pennsylvania.

I don't see why you couldn't. My 2016 SR5 DC had the manual slide window if you wanted to use that as a reference model.

Thanks I'll try again, I got frustrated with the 2nd place arguing with me about what truck I had so I just gave up.

In my research tonight it looks like it gets glued in place vs the old style that had a gasket around it.

My 2019 OR is a double cab with a manual slider. I bet they cost a ton from the dealer new.

That's my guess as well, glad to hear they had manual rear windows just one model year ago. Thanks for the info!

How secure is that latch on the manual slide? Looks too small for someone to crawl through obviously, but just wondering about what could be accessed from the outside with some renegade effort.

How did this project turn out? Were you able to get the slider that @CaptainGrump linked on ebay installed? If so, how's it holding up? I'm shopping for a used 2nd Gen Tundra with a sliding rear window but wondering how big a deal it would be to buy one with a solid window and swap it out.

Anyone else ever change their solid rear window to a manual slider?

I have a manual slider from my 2016 DC in good condition I’ll sell. I installed power sliding.

Thanks @Mw4904. Not looking for parts yet as I'm still shopping for a truck. Mostly just interested in hearing from anyone who's made the switch from solid window to slider (or vice versa!) for now, but I may hit you up if I end up with a Tundra with a fixed rear window.

Never switched, but I have had both a SR with solid window and SR5 with manual slider (both DCs). The solid window has a much better view out the back, which was a big surprise getting the sliding window. The big benefit to me for the sliding window is the ability to put extra long trim/lumber through the window, where 16ft is easy and doesn’t even overhang the tailgate. Whereas I have done 16ft in the bed which is technically legal here but very iffy. I would say I never open the sliding window for ventilation as it is hard to get to, would need to open a rear door and open/close.
