I think 2003 was the first year Toyota offered the rear sway bar as a package.

 

I think he's the only person on here that has the factory sway bar. It's neat and apparently rare!

 

It came with the TRD sport package. so did a lsd which the offroad didnt.

I first saw this OEM bar in 2003 I think, and I investigated adding it to my 2002 but bolting up a Hellwig was much easier.

 

Finally was able to schedule my first mani-pedicure in months! Looking forward to it. Gonna do some work on the truck before the appt. just in case I break a nail.

1) Checked my records and its time to rotate tires. Might wait another week and see if this axle seal is leaking.

2) Received some Used parts and I’ll tinker a bit with those today.

3) Working on my first cup of Italian Roast and maybe I’ll think up more stuff after the second cup.

 

Drinking some Costa Rican dark roast, and waiting on a delivery.

I will be working on rejuvenating the weather strip on my doors this weekend, and making plans to change the oil & filter. I also plan to clean out the PS pump, add fresh PS fluid ... then drop the pan, clean the screen and add fresh ATF.

Should I use Dexron II or III transmission fluid for the PS?

 

Use Valvoline Dex/Merc in both your Transmission and your PS Rez. Cheap and Wallace Wurrld. Good stuff, too. Meets the early 1st gen spec without all the other additives in TypeIV Fluids.

Take pics of that pan drop! Curious of the debris, or lack there of.

 

Cool. Did you already order the gasket for the pan? I'm curious what is used there.

 

I am not doing it myself... my Toyota mechanic will have everything he needs on hand, I will take pictures because I am also curious to see if the screen has captured anything over the past 17 years.

 

I bet its pretty clean based on others reports. Might have a little sludge on the magnets. Ask your Tech to tighten up the Valve Body Bolts while its open.

Maybe change out the Solenoids while its open if you want to spend the extra $.

I’ll snap some pics and post them in awhile. I had to retrofit these even though I had the factory brackets. You’ll see what I did in the pics. They are super user friendly and very strong.

 

Funny cause it's at least partially true....yea, I know it's more an issue of material quality than design, but some Toyota trucks in the last couple decades have come with some suspect engineering for a truck frames (example, 1st Gen Tacoma's have notoriously weak rear frame sections...if you add any noticeable weight they need to be strengthened)....

 

The frames design seems solid. The big issue is the damn supplier originally. (DANA INDUSTRIES). Look at all the Jeep frame issues and Colorado. All Dana.

the new frames are made by metulsa. They do indeed seem better (at least all the replacement frames seem to be holding up alright up here. And some of them are over 10 years old now)

 

When I got a filter, the gasket came with it.

 

Tested the ‘Blank Fuse’ Location on the 2002 SR5. She reads 30Amps without the key even in the ignition. Zzzzttttt! Thats plenty of juice for whoever wants to add shtuff.

Yep. 4 each side. I added the Aluminum Posts for extra strength. Did that after squaring up the install the way it ‘felt’ it should be put in (couldn’t find instructions online). Their is some margin of tweaking and dry fitting along with slight loosening of bolts, sliding brackets, and re-tweaking. Once everything is good looks wise, then tighten her all up and add the support posts with Fuze.

 

just because its pulling 30 with the tester doesnt mean id use it for a 30 amp circuit. 10 amp at most.. you dont want to overload the fuse box and start a fire.

 

So that’s how I can get a new truck!

 

Im contemplating getting the suspension upgrades I want. But I either have to also spend money on a jack, stands and maybe an impact, or pay someone to do it. Hmmmm decisions decisions

 

Get the jack stands used on where ever. You want 6 Ton stands (they are taller). You can buy a jack at the same place, as well (3 ton).

Sadly, the Mamba Impact is too big for the leaf work without taking off the bed. Space too tight. Not sure if a short socket will help. You’ll need some kind of Stubby or Angle Impact for this work or take the bed off.

I’ll be taking my bed off soon to do my leaf work prep as I want to grease up the frame chassis and clean between the cab and bed areas. Might break the nuts with Mamba and come back later to do the leafs with a breaker.

You’ll be happy on the tools purchases as eventually they pay for themselves. You’ll always have them. Stuff is cheap online used or at garage sales.

 

@jImmegart I agree with him. Tools are a good investment. Especially at your age. I wish I had been smarter with my tool purchases. Insteading of picking up random things here and there I would have bought sets. Now I have a bunch of random tools that aren't as organized as I'd like.

 

Spent a good hour trying to remove the driver side axle nut today. It's really on there. I even nuked it with my torch. I'm going to have to try Festers suggestion tomorrow.

 

Wedge a thick screwdriver in the canes of the rotor and let it hit the caliper to stop the wheel from spinning.

I see what you guys are saying. Just getting the necessary tools plus all the upgrades is kinda scary price wise. I usually do work at school where i can use lifts and tools for free but not sure when that will be back. Maybe Ill try to split cost with my brother in law
