Wheel Swap

I am swapping my 17 Tundra steel wheels for TRD wheels. using same tires and sensors. Do the sensors need reprogramming?

 

You plan on swappin your steel wheel sensors? If so they will only fit installed backwards

 

Yes , so is this advisable or should I just get new sensors?

 

Buy new sensors. I did the same wheel swap and bought some new sensors on ebay really affordable and had to have them programed to my truck at the stealership for $100.

Well I had the rims swapped and was ready to put in new sensors when the manager of the Discount Tire I was at (and a 2015 Tundra owner) told me that he has used the steel wheel sensors several times without a hiccup. So I let him save me some $ and gave it a try.

 

You had a decent installer. What has and will happen many times is the steel wheel sensor will get broken during a dismount. Only plus.........Discount had to install new (correct) sensors. Just maybe let the future installers know if and when you have a dismount/mount. What a change from steel to TRD...

 

So it bugged me all day that the 40 deg sensors where working, but knowing that it wasn't by design and would probably fail at the worst time. I went back and had 20 deg sensors installed
