Let’s hear; best summer camp/ related story

 

I'll start with best of "end of camp bonfire" story since it is readily available in my thinker.​

Camping at Boxwell. The last night of scout camp at the last bonfire ceremony the camp counselors always did skits, and encouraged the scouts to come up with, and perform their skits.

A couple groups of scouts got up, and did their skits. I'm not necessarily paying attention to them, and then one guy gets up and they are doing some kind of ludicrous skit, again I'm not paying that much attention. The only light available under the tree canopy was from the two Coleman lanterns on either side of the "bonfire theater" and the bonfire itself.

One of the guys performing the skit had stopped, amd yelled "Hey youuu guyyysssss!"
The ones not paying much attention (me) all naturally stopped, turned, and looked attentively. They do the beginning of their skit that I have forgotten by now, and they perform the "cue." Its dead quiet, all eyes are on the stage, very little light.

Off in the distance you hear running footfalls in the undergrowth, and leaf covered forest floor. It grows louder, and louder. Pace quickening, getting faster, and faster.

From the pitch black forest a large 20-ish year old man comes running out of the forest in Class A boy scout uniform, jumps onto the stage, throws his arm up, and brings it back down in a chopping motion right at one of the guys shoulder. While yelling "NINJETTY- CHOP." The guy falls to the floor of the stage, and slowly rolls backwards off the stage towards the fire. After rolling off the two foot tall stage he had rolled over to the fire, and used a stick to play with the coal bed creating embers, all the while screaming in agony making it seem like he had rolled into the fire.

The rest of the guys on stage including the large guy from the woods all acted like they were fighting. Very convincing to a group of young boys.

The way it was all done in a quick, efficient manner made it very very funny to see a group of guys play fighting on stage.

Their skit lasted less than 2 minutes.

Ninjetty chop was, and still is a running joke between me and pops even today.


I am happy to tell more stories. Scout, snake, animal related, hunting, fishing, or otherwise.

All the ft lbs

 

So we were a pretty active troop, boy run, we usually did 1 outing per month; focusing on different merit badges. The ski/snow and the water trips were always looked forward to! Two of the leaders had boats and our council had like 8-10 canoes on a trailer for check out. The whole trip was great, might have been a skunk at night on this trip, not sure. But we would canoe 5 miles into the lake/canyon system. And mess around, check stuff off in the sacred book. Time to go home comes around; the good boat wouldn’t start, and the other guys boat had lost steering linkage during the weekend; hah so an ore was tied to his outboard that was driven by Guy B, and gassed by Guy A. So janky boat had to tow no start boat back to the dock, basically leaving the canoes back alone; ended up coming out of the canyon into Huge white caps!!! Almost all of us older boys and younger boys got blown into this cove, where a super creepy man in a VAN, was so kind to drive us back to the dock, haha super strange and we still laf but nothing happened. Get to the dock as Guy A looses his hat in the wind somehow, and leans over, onto the throttle......NAILS IT!!! GUY B tries to steer away from the dock and the ore breaks from the honky rigged set up. Luckily nothing happened, but it was such a crazy weekend!!!
Side note: the night before we left, the older boys slept on the nicer boat, I may or may have not popped the emergency kill cord in someone’s eye.......

Sounds like you guys were a blast!
We were an active troop until the older boys eagled/fell out.

After that it left most of the younger ones that were "along for the ride" (the ones whose parents made them be there.) have very little motivation to do stuff. They happened to be the majority so we didn't get to do too much fun stuff like after the majority of "active" members we're gone.

During our voting process of "where are we camping next" most of the inactive boys chose boxwell because it was easy, and they still had cell reception there. I always voted for places we had never been. My votes always lost.

I had a Nokia brick phone, and only used to to call/text. It also doubled as a hammer more times than I can count. Cell reception didn't matter to me as long as I could dial mom, or pop.

 

Regarding the "older boys" for a long time it seemed that I was in the younger group.

One week in the middle of summer we had young blood come in. A group of scouts that had been cubscouts prior were there, and ready to start their BSA adventure. That was a breath of fresh air for me, and also scary because suddenly I had all these new people, and I found myself in "the older scouts shoes."

I was surprised at how easy everything came to me with talking to them even though I was terrified. (I was very shy not so long ago.) They would ask me to show them how to do square knots, and taught-lines, etc.

Ask me what I would do if YADDA YADDA this happened or YADDA YADDA that happened.

I would love to swap stories in person over a beer or two by the campfire sometime.

 

The 4 little guys from ball joint to spindle are 59, the main nut that goes through the lower arm is 103.

 

Actually it might be Toyota. They have a cup around the joint, I haven't seen an aftermarket set with the cup.

 

It’s funny my DC is like 47 for those.

 

Nice to see somebody actually testing for data. I've been weary of the expressions of how they'll make a truck feel but no data. I do wish these guys shared if air/fuel or ignition timing changed at all.

You’d get right along with my boys when we do an annual polar bear dip and over nighter.

 

You fellas look like a blast. I would love to explore more of the states with people who have been, and are good with camping/hiking and the like.

I would enjoy every second of that.

Looks like kinda sparse foliage, and plant life. Very different from here. It would be strange, but very enjoyable.

 

I checked my friends stock 4runner and he had the cup thing also so I figured I was wrong.

 

I’ll likely do 12 hole just because my injectors have 200k on them. But I’m trying to figure out what Toyota they came off of. So far my corolla injectors seem like the closest match

 

The missing piece of understanding for me is which Specific Vehicle are these Injectors made for?

I’ve searched the part number given off that site the other night and it goes nowhere. My injectors had no part numbers on them. They say Denso, but no id.

For everyone else: They do not add horsepower, unless you add the Exhaust System per the experts. But why do the injectors if the exhaust is the key to HP?

Going into these injectors:

1) I knew per the seller I wasn’t gaining HP (unless adding exhaust).

2) It would make the truck shift in a more modern way. That lazy transmission feel is gone when it should downshift coming to a slower speed. You can feel the downshift with the 12 hole injectors. Throttle response is better (very slightly).

3) I wanted to clean my existing 4 hole injectors, but the 12 holes were the same cost.

Didn’t realize until the other night these 12 hole injectors have a better design/build quality. I’d love to find these on the Denso site. Its a hard find.

 

They look just like them.

 

The shocking part of that video for me was the fact that the 12 holes actually performed worse. I wasn't going to be surprised if the 12 holes only offered a very slight advantage but seeing them actually perform worse makes me want to avoid them. I wonder how much new OEM injectors are.

 

my local dealer has them for $162 EACH.

 

How worse? At 2000RPM they are slightly better. This is where most of your driving is taking place.

At 3500 they are slightly worse. Not much driving goes on in that range (for very long). Same with WOT.

The video does not take into account:

1) The tuning memory of the ECU on the vehicle. Was the vehicles battery disabled and reset?

2) The tuning of our trucks ECU vs. their test vehicle ECU.


I am not arguing against their HP test, but its an incomplete picture. The 12s offer a big advantage in modern drivability feel.


New Injector costs are through the roof!

 

I wonder if the advantage you are feeling is because you went from 17 year old(possibly clogged) injectors to new ones? I bet that's why a lot of people feel like they are gaining something. Good point about 2,000 RPM. I had forgotten that.

I'm going to bet they had the battery disconnected for over 30 minutes while they swapped injectors, but anything is possible.

 

Anything is possible. The entire reason for me doing these was to have clean injectors.

Are my old 4’s injectors dirty? Maybe, but I will not be paying $250 to ‘test/clean/rebuild’ when I can buy them reman’d for less.

My truck had always had that lazy non-down shift from what I remember. Its crazy that injectors make me feel a transmission change, but its true. None of my opinion has changed on these 12’s since the day of install.

 

You can buy 12 hole blue injectors from an online Denso store that ‘fit’ our trucks for about $110 each last I checked.

 

How is Keith able to sell an entire set for $300 and still make a profit worth his time? Sounds like even if the gains are not backed up by science it might make sense to buy from him if you want new/clean injectors.

Those questions I can’t answer. I’ve Guinea Pig’d plenty of stuff and try to help people save money. Maybe someone can step up and buy or find these 12 holes source? Oside Tiger?

The 12’s injectors aren’t recco’d for ‘gains in HP’. They are for drivability. The video proves a false negative premise and is incomplete. Yes there are no HP gains, but the drivability is changed.

Flow rates are the same hence why I have said do not do these for MPG. Go back and look at our MPG thread. Over time its the same MPG for me.

From Dirty Deeds. This is his description. All the boxes are ticked and confirmed true by me after install. Amazing how that video only provides a narrow slice of the bigger picture.

 

I've been curious if there isn't enough fuel pressure to make use of the extra holes. In the VW world there are a lot of options for injector upgrades but you only get benefit from them if (A) you're running more boost than stock and (B) you've swapped your 3 bar pressure regulator to a 4 bar. In our trucks none of that is going on, we aren't exceeding the limits of the 4 hole.

In the video they mentioned that the motor was warmer on 4 hole and that can make an improvement, the difference wasn't large. I agree with the idea that they are a good replacement for old injectors but I don't think they live would up to much improvement claims, probably the same feeling as taking out a caked air filter and dropping in a new one.

As far as disconnecting the battery goes, I believed that for a few years but out ecu is made to adapt quickly. I don't think it is necessary at all, it just resets all your smog test data and kills your radio presets. I think disconnecting batteries is from the days of OBD1.
