    Hello Tundra folks,

I'm looking for some help with installing these KBVoodoo Aluminum Hi Rise Crossbars on my Tunrda Crew Cab with factory tri fold tonnaue cover. The instructions that came with the bars are not vehicle specific but from what I can tell, I'm supposed to use the T-slot nuts and slide them into the accessory rail and then mount the uprights to the rail.

It looks like when the dealer installed the factory tonnaue cover, they relocated the accessory rail to make room for the tonnaue cover rail/raincatch system. The crossbar uprights don't line up correctly to the accessory rials now.

If anyone has installed these crossbars with the factory cover, I'd really appreciate some feedback on how it was done.

These are the bars I ordered.

Okay folks, after a lot of tinkering and looking at my install issue, here is how I was able to install the crossbars on with my factory tonnaue cover.

Here are a few key notes.
    1. I have the Toyota factory tonnaue cover, where my accessory rails were relocated below the tonnaue cover rail system.
    2. I had originally ordered the Crossbar system to fit where the accessory rails were not relocated. After some back and forth with Kbvoodoo, I had to order the no drill clips. The installation instructions are really basic and don't detail the install, so you're basically on your own if you like to read instructions.
    3. My installation required some modification to my tonnaue cover to make things work.

During my first attempt to install the crossbars I had two major issues.
    1. The crossbars didn't fit under my tonnaue cover system without having issues with using the cover. The major issue was that the uprights pushed the cover rail system in to far and the cover would not fit back on properly. If you look at the picture, it shows how the uprights pushed in the rail system about 7mm total. This was enough to miss-align the cover and the front locking mechanism didn't lock back into place.

To solve for this I had to cut out the weather stripping that is stuck onto the tonnaue cover rail system. The weather stripping measures almost 4mm each so taking out the stripping on both sides gave the cover rail system enough room to fit almost normal.

Weather stripping cut out to make room for uprights.

    2. My second issues was the uprights didn't align with the accessory rail and actually got in the way of reinstalling the rail.

In this picture, there was no way to bolt the uprights to the accessory rail system because they were relocated.

Uprights stuck out far to reinstall them without some spacers.

To get around this, I had to order the no drill clips which install by bolting/pressing the uprights to the underside of the bed.

This picture shows the uprights install with the tonnaue cover system and factory accessory rail back in place.

In all, with trying to figure this out and going back and forth to HD for bolts and spacers, this took me about 6 hours. Most of the time was spent trying to figure out fitting.

Since we are on the subject, I am wondering if this would work with after market tonneau cover (say Roll n Lock) without factory deck rail system. Please help I have been searching with no luck so far.

I have an after market trifold tonneau cover and bought this rack from voodoo and it fits well. https://www.kbvoodoo.com/shop/f150-hi-rise-crossbars-for-use-with-tonneau-covers I sent them a message and got back to me pretty quickly. As for the op... if the rail it lower maybe they can send you the no drill clips and you can check if those work out.

I contacted them and got the no drill clips. I'm in the process of documenting my install process and the issues that I ran into. More on that when I have some time to post.

@jptshadow , post a picture of the rear of your bed, based on the pictures, we may be able to guide you in the right direction. The uprights typically install under your tonnaue cover system so that might be your challenge.

Hey jptshawdo, I'm not the vendor but can offer help based on my experience. I've been told the vendor is active on this site.

Thanks for the details as this is very helpful. Are you still happy with this setup? Any issues with the cover since installing the rack?

    thanks,

I have not used the bars all that much but so far they have held up well and I'm happy with them. If I were to do it again, I'd take a look at BiliieBars. They seem to hold more weight and from the YouTube videos I've seen they are at least the same quality or better and the cost is about the same.

The issue you'll run into is if you have a rain gutter system with your Tonneau cover. If you don't have it, installation is simple, if you do, you'll have to do what I did to get things to fit a best a possible. I think that will be an issue with any bar system that uses brackets.

We would suggest not buying anything for a little while.

We will be releasing something that you will want to see, very soon.

Don't worry, you bought a complete bed rack.

I was referring to a new line of crossbars called the PRO-X.
