Purposes of headlight dimmer?

Are you referring to the 0 to 5 dial or the interior dash light dimmer?

 

The 0 to 5 is the headlight aim adjuster. It is used to aim your lights back down when hauling or towing a heavy load or if you are lifted.

 

Whats it supposed to be set on . I notice seems brighter higher it goes . I thought I read its an adjustment for how many people in truck. I thought that's odd and why ? So its on highest in my truck even with 1 person

 

Whatever you want it set on. If you are stock with no lift 0 is fine. 0 is the highest position. The higher the number, the lower the beam points towards the ground. For example, I'm on a 3 inch lift so I run mine 3.5 to 4 so my lights are aimed down.

 

I had this question yesterday, and the manual on this topic is a wee bit confusing.

For the CrewMax, I think this table below means:

• Set it to 0 if you have no passengers and no load
• Set it between 2 and 5 if you have a load in the bed -- where 2.5 is not meant to mean "two and a half" but rather "two to five"
  
• Set it between 3 and 5 if you are towing

Am I misreading that?

 

It is 2 and a half. The dial "clicks" so you can set it halfway between 2 and 3. The best way to set it is go to where it is really dark and you will see where your beam is as you turn it. If you are stock with no lift, no heavy loads or leveleling kit, 0 is a normal setting.

 

Oh, I didn't realize there were half increments. Thanks. I guess 4/4.5/5 are reserved for those with monster lifts who are also towing.

 

These days that's a good way to get backed into, or shot.....people are nuts. I just let them get a good distance in front of me and then hit the S8.

 

I got a blink yesterday with it on 3 (no lift, no-load, not towing, and one passenger) and why I looked it up... I guess I was wrong to assume that 3 was the baseline and 0 mean lower than baseline and 5 was higher than baseline.

 

Were I in your shoes Id rotate the switch to aim the light to the highest position. Then find a proper place to aim your headlights (by popping the hood and adjusting each headlamp. Search web for process).

If your headlights are aimed PROPERLY in the highest setting, you are then able to adjust for the highest variation in payload and trailer tongue weight.
