    Hey guys,

Looking to get rid of my 20 inch wheels on my new 2020 TRD Sport. I want to get 18 inch wheels and get some more aggressive tires such as the KO2's or the Falken Wildpeaks.

I researched on here previously that the max tire size with no lift is 285/65 R18 however it says trimming may be necessary. I am looking for the max tire size where there is no trimming required at all and it doesn't mess with TPMS or anything.

Also my other question is how are the tpms sensors on these things? Can I take them off my stock wheels and put them on the aftermarket ones or how does this work? Clearly not a tire/wheel guy.

Attached are the two types of rims I'm looking at. Not real TRD rims just knock offs lol.

    Thanks for the input

There are a few variables with what your looking to do. First off a 285/65/18 is roughly .5" bigger in width and height vs 275/65/18 . You shouldn't have any rubbing issues at all. If your looking into aftermarket rims, there's a few things to consider.
1- Offset (aggressive, semi aggressive, or close to factory, which im not sure what a 2020 Tundra is. Generally it's between +50-60 offset.
2- Tire size in relation to rim offset

The higher the offset, the more tucked in your tire will be. So if you are going with a 285/65/18, and are looking at aftermarket rims, you need to stay close to your factory offset. You can measure the inside of your tire to your control arm to give you an idea of the room you have. I will give you an example of what I did .
The space between my factory tire to my control arm was 1 " . I wanted to jump up to a 295/70/18, which was roughly 2" taller and 1" wider. I wasn't budgeted for rims, so I went with 1 1/4" spacers. The spacers compensated for the added width of new tire. Same applies with aftermarket rims and what offset you want. I finally got aftermarket rims which are +20 offset. This provides a semi aggressive stance.
As far as TPMS, I retained my factory ones with new rims. I wouldn't think you would need to swap them out, but my Tundra is an 08, so a lot has changed, well not really hahaha.
Here's what a semi aggressive stance is. Hope this helps and i didn't jumble it up

For what it's worth I just put Fuel Anza +20 rims with Goodyear Duratrac LT275/70 R18's on a stock 2019 4x4 TRD Sport. Tires are 33.4" diameter.

They rubbed the front mud flap in reverse at full turn. I took all mud flaps off, just because. I'm happy with the look. Not going to level so I don't mess up the TSS.

Looks good man. I got it figured out. Went with the 285/65/R18 and it fits pretty good. Could have maybe gone a little bigger but oh well.

Looks awesome! I’m in the exact same boat with my 2020 Sport and this helps a lot! Question, did you need to add any sort of lift?

Walkem. How did this change your ride quality? I have a 19 TRD Sport and have thought about doing the same thing. Did switching to 18s give the truck a softer ride on bumps or pot holes? I always thought mine was a little rough compared to other trucks I had with 18 inch wheels.

Mine is a softer ride on the 18s. Very happy. Next set of tires will be Nitto Ridge Grapplers for noise reduction although the Duratracs are really not that bad.

To be honest I haven't noticed much difference..that being said I didn't drive the truck long with 20s on it. 500km or so. Putting the 18s on with the KO2s i run a higher tire pressure too so it's a tough call.

How are do you like your new tire set-up? I am thinking of upgrading my 2021 TRD Sport tires (20" to 18" Replika 226)when I take off my winter rims and tires (Ontario). How is the ride quality? Do you have any pics from the side? Any regrets or rubbing? My other option is sticking with the OEM 20" rims and putting on a slightly larger tire (275/65 R20), any advice?

    Thanks,

Good thread. I'm going to 18" Method 701s or 316s from the 20" OEM Sport rims with KO2s or Toyo AT3s.

    Hey,

I do slightly have regrets. I am currently waiting for a 2022 4Runner and trading this thing in and I plan to learn from my mistakes.
Now my regrets are not in regards to quality, rubbing, noise or anything. These rims have been awesome and I absolutely love the look and they have seen 2 winters now and are still rust free. The KO2 tires are gnarly. They look awesome, they drive awesome, they are not loud...but they are heavy AF. I lost at least 2 L/100K by switching to KO2's.

What I plan on doing when I get the 4Runner is getting the replika rims again, having those as my summer rim because I love black rims, throwing the stock all seasons on those rims, then using the OEM wheels as my winter wheel and getting a designated winter tire. That way in the summer months my fuel efficiency doesn't get any worse.

When I bought my Tundra fuel here in Ontario was like $0.90/L. I wasn't worried about adding those KO2's then because gas was cheap! Now that we are up around $1.80/L it's time for me to start making better decisions in regards to efficiency.

I will always recommend an 18 inch wheel over a 20 inch wheel. I don't want to have to stress about scraping along a curb when parking. Buying tires for an 18 inch wheel is cheaper than a 20 as well.

I will try to find some more pics for ya.

Thanks for the candid reply, that is the kind of feedback I was looking for. 2.0 L/100K is to0 much for me to loose and therefore will need to rethink my plan and look for something lighter (P rated???) but still rugged looking. Truthfully, I am 95% on paved roads and only wanted an AT tire because I like the look. Having said that I will only plan on keeping my current Tundra for a few years as I wait to ensure Toyota's QDR remains with the redesign.

What tires will you put on your new 4Runner?

I purchased the Replika R226 (love the black finish as well) for my winters and are currently running Nokian Hakka winter tires. I only put 1000km on my 20" sport rims and tires as I got my Tundra in November.

Thanks for the pictures from the side of your truck it looks great.
