Gen 1 Sub Woofer

So got my Gen 1 and as I do to all my cars, started the stereo upgrade - you know ... Atlanta traffic

Nothing too over the top, as I listen more jazz and Bossa Nova:

- JVC Receiver
- Couple Amps
- New speakers
- Sub under the back passenger seat

The little cargo area was acoustically insulated with kilmat, customer build a top to close the space and hold the woofer.

So far so good, all working.... let's go inside for a bear ... put the seat down with the music playing and vraaaaaaa vraaaaaaaaaa vraaaaaaaaa ... noise starts coming from the seat plastic cover under it.

So ... has anyone run into that and found a solution? I'm thinking of removing that and fill with lots of foam to create some pressure, to avoid the material to vibrate, but not sure will work.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

 

pull the plastic and throw some sound deadener in there. should kill the resonance of the plastic

So, removed the bottom plastic cover from the seat and put several layers of kilmat until I had enough to stop the vibration. It did work.

On side note, don't expect lots of bass from that kind of setup. It got a little better, but I'll be researching other speakers for the doors for better quality.

 

Rear passenger conversion? I fiberglassed the inside, never had an issue, 15+ Years, running an infinity kappa perfect 10” w 300x1 bridged from my Kenwood X450-4.

 

The issue I had was vibration, not sure if that's what you are referring to. My problem is that I'll not get the same bass clarity when comparing with my RAV. That one has 600W x 4 for the doors and 400W mono for the kicker 12" sub box.

 

If you don’t have a sealed box it won’t work properly. Just putting it in the compartment won’t cut it. I bet if you put it in a sealed box in the cab it would sound much better (or seal the compartment like I did).

 

I cut the plastic out on the bottom on mine and sealed the compartment behind the drivers seat with sound deadening mat and have 2 8's, it sounds great.

 

As per my OP, it is sealed.
