[IMG] 2012-2014 Tundra ECM Software Update
Got a letter from Toyota yesterday for "Certain 2012-2014 Tundra ECM Software Update". I have a 2014 Crewmax that the VIN falls into this category. Is this the same issue as the AIP? My letter states this:

In the subject vehicles, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) if debris/ice becomes lodged in the air switching valve. If this occurs, the Malfunction Indicator (Check Engine) light could illuminate and the vehicle could enter a "Fail-Safe" Mode (also known as "Limp-Home" Mode). If this occurs the vehicle's power and speed will be reduced, which could inconvenience you and require immediate repair. The ECM calibration has been updated to reduce the possibility of this condition occurring.

PDF is attached (thanks to @Jack Burton)

    Check your VIN here

I'm always afraid of these type of "updates"... I always assume they are making things worse. This probably isn't the case but its just how I feel. For the record I have not received anything in the mail yet.

    I will explain alittle better..

The ecm is programmed with a set of values for normal engine operation. Anything beyond those values is abnormal operation to the ecm flagging the check engine light or ecl to come on to say took im seeing a problem here fix me... (Example here) If the value say is 15 to 35 but the sensor is reading 37 the ecm will kick the cel on... By reprogrammed the ecm the value in the example is now 10 to 45 now the cel will not come on, and maybe keeping the engine from going into lip mode till it gets repaired.

This is not uncommon for ecm to be reprogammed when the programmers find a problem, programmers are not perfect they are human like us. It only takes one line or one symbol wrong to screw the ecm up or glitch it..

Take toyotas advice get the upgrade on the ecm done.. Give toyota credit they found a problem and fixed it ( cant say that for many company's)

Sure enough, I got a letter in the mail on this today. I agree with mike that is good they are actively updating the ecu. But.... They reflash the whole ecu. I may just stick with what I have for a while. Having a flex fuel that isn't having any of the alcohol density calculation problems, it makes me a little leery of making any changes.

Has this been on 4WD only? Are there any of my 2WD fellows getting this "love note"?

The update actually is for a fix for FFV (e85) trucks. ECM is flashed so that ecm properly calibrates the % of alcohol in fuel. Many FFV trucks are reading higher levels of alcohol levels than are actually there. This causes poor starting and poor performance. The reflash involves updating to 30ck0600 (TSB-0058-13). Had mine done Tuesday and the performance increase is much better.

I got same letter as most in reference to air valve. Tech updated ecm and put sticker under hood with date of 2/3/2015 and update of 30ck0600. Look it up and you will find that it's all about alcohol issues on FFV (e85) engines. Also under TSB oo58-13

Sounds like the update is not just for one thing like air switch valve...Using that a excuse to pull in the trucks in also. ... Sounds like they had programmer error like i said in my early post...

from a early post thats a firmware update... see if im right..

For the guys who have had it done notice does the idle normal or high when you get it back?
If it idles high is a firmware reprogram. If it idles normal then is a flash...

Edit calling a mod csuviper.. if your truck is in the recall this might fix your hypertech issue you where having.. ...
