Coil over installation questions

    Hey guys/ladies,

    I just recently purchased my ToyTec/Eibach/Pro Comp coil overs. Also, a set of SPC UCA. I'm having them installed on Tuesday. My question is: can I leave my Pro Comp (level) strut extension on when installing the coil overs, since I will have the UCAs? That way I can obtain the toal 4" lift I want. Will it help keep the shock from locking out, if I keep the coils wrenched down? Or will it cause issues in other areas?

    Do you have a 2WD or 4WD?
    I looked up the ProComp lift and it is the type where you could bolt the coilover to it. I however wouldn't recommend it. You shouldn't stack lifts. Magnifies potential problems. If you have 4WD then you should keep to 3-3.5" to avoid extra wear to the cvs and wheel bearings. Even with the new UCA it may be difficult to get alignment specs if you go too high on the lift. The coilover is built to adjust, adjust it up to 3-3.5" if desired.

    If you want to go higher then you should add a drop bracket lift. This lowers the LCA mounts and adds a larger spindle and lowers the front diff to keep the cv angle smaller.

    She's a 2WD. I think with the Pro Comp leveling kit, she's at 2.75" lift. As long as I can get 3-3.5" out of the coil overs, witout locking out the shock, I'll be happy. I'm not looking for anything over 4".
    I do minor off roading (camping trails, beaches, etc.). I may add a spindle later on.
    You think my CVs will be ok with the setup I have now (coilovers, UCA, SS shocks)? I'm having those installed this Tuesday. Next Saturday, I'm adding and an RSP front bumper. May drop her about a 1/2" +/-. Is there anything else (minor, not super expensive), that I should add?

    Well you are in luck. With 2WD you do not have a front Differential or CVs to worry about. If the coilovers you got are for 3" lift then your good, the length is setup for that. If the coilover is stock height or only made for like 1" lift then you could add to your spacer lift and be ok.

    What are you adding to the rear? 1" rear lift is needed to be level with 3" up front.

    Post the coilovers you got and a pic of the spacer lift you already have installed.

    The coilovers are for 3-3.5" of lift. Unfortunately in building the coilovers, I accidently changed the position of "stock" height w/o marking it ahead of time. They're sitting on Pro Comp Pre Runner SS (the ones that are ride adjustable). I already had the shocks. I got the head & coil from Toy Tec. They sell the same build.
    Right now I have Pro Comp Pre Runner SS shocks in the rear w/ a 1" Pro Comp block.
    As of this Tuesday, the shocks will stay, but I'm replacing the leaf springs & block with an Icon 1.5" replacement pack. As well as the coilovers, and SPC UCA.

    I'll go take a pic of the current 3:1 level.

    That will be an awesome setup. I would install the rear and then adjust the front to be level or slightly lower than level.
    I would not keep the existing front spacers. Will be too much lift for the front as well as the other items I mentioned above.

    I've always like the rear, just a 1/2" higher. Reminds me of my favorite R.C truck, when I was a kid. I'll post pics next weekend, once the bumper is on too.

    JROCK, that kit looks very similar to their Boss kit with Bilstein. Are they using the same coils? Do you know what the coil spring rate is? Just curious.

    it is the same exact. Just with the Pro Comp Pre Runner SS'. Since Pro Comp came out with the "ride height adjustable" shocks as well, they made two different set ups. I already had the shocks. Was just able to make it better.
    I believe it's either 600 or 650lbs. I think the "Reds" are rated at 700/750lbs. I'll double check, and get back to ya on that.

    I had it switched! "Reds" are 650, "Silvers" are 700.

    Thanks for the info. These coil overs are sweet. Why did you go with 700 instead of 650? I know King coil overs typically comes with 600 coils, but you could order heavier version (700).

    Let us know how it rides after the installation. I would also vote for not installing spacers on top. That sort of defeats the purpose of the expensive coil overs.

    I'm upgrading the bumper this wknd, that should help in adding some weight.
    However, the real reason is......I hate red! Trying to keep it all grey, black & silver.

    Yea, I figured as much. Just needed someone else to back up my thoughts. Will do. They're getting installed tomorrow.
