What's up all you freaks of Tundra yumminess,

Same here, just thought you'd like to know. Alright, so as those of you who stalk me in this forum may know, I've been hinting at the insanely difficult chore of choosing the correct wheels and tires for the official christening of my build. However, I'm at a bit of a loss and I can't figure on a better place to gain some insight, perspective, or perhaps some laughter at my expense. Hopefully one of the former.

Here's my dilemma. I want a truck that looks beastly but I'd rather avoid losing too much by way of current handling capabilities. My TRD Pro is already lifted 2" based on OEM specs and I'm under the impression after calling the service manager at the dealership that the lift is a suspension lift. At first, I was stuck on the idea of going with 33's in order to preserve my current height so I can get in and out of the garage. They're slightly bigger than the stock 275/65's on the truck and I've already seen through other posts what they look like. Frankly, it's nice, but ultimately I think my snobbish propensities would be better served by 35's. Going with 35's would obviously require a lift. I'm figuring a 2" body lift, which should allow me to have the sidewall height I want (both for looks and "padding") from the tire. Also, some more measuring on the garage and I have about 3" more clearance to work with. If necessary, I can even relocate the tracks and hardware so the door is up higher, as this is where I would run into issues.

    Anyhow, here's my questions:

    1. Will a 2" body lift and my 2" OEM suspension lift equate to a 4" total lift from the height of say, a stock SR5?
    2. Is this height sufficient enough for 35 diameter tires, without too much cutting/shaving/etc.?
    3. I am thinking of going with a 20x10 wheel with an offset of +20 and a set of 35x12.50/20 Toyo OC R/Ts.

I'm figuring a 1.6" difference in how far the edge of my wheel sticks out (calculated by taking the difference of the +60 offset of my OEM wheel and the +20 offset of the wheel I'm considering and coming up with a 40mm difference which equals about 1.57"). Add the 1" difference in wheel width and I'm looking at about 2.5" beyond my fender well, give another 1/2 inch or so for the tire sticking out under pressure. This is certainly within the specs of my desired look...a little bit more wouldn't bother me too much as I'm planning some Bushwhacker fender flares.

Does anyone see a flaw with this? Is my reasoning sound or am I missing some crucial calculation that will inevitably require me to perform some crazy modification to the truck?

I realize this is a long read. I have a tendency to be verbose and often provide unnecessary details. If anybody has any insight or knows of other threads in this forum, or perhaps other Tundra forums, where this set up has been done I sure would appreciate the assistance.

Thanks everyone, here's to the first of many challenging decisions. Yay for tax season...hahahahaha!

How about 34.5 inch tires without having to mod anything to your Pro? It's not 35, but close and you do not have to compromise the functionality of Pro (beautifully engineered piece of machine) at all. I personally do not like the body lift at all. Here's a picture of a Pro with Toyo OC MT, 295/70/18 on stock wheels (another beautifully constructed components). According to the owner, the the tires did not rub at all.Pro with Toyo 295:70:18 no rubbing.jpg

No body lift! They're terrible and cause worlds of trouble.
A better option is some form of suspension lift to get up to around 3.5" of lift and run a tire like a 35x12.50 or 305/70/18 or 295/70/18.
If you're set on 20s then try for one that's narrower than 10" wide to keep from having a negative offset... which is going to cause the majority of your rubbing issues.
If you end up with rub on your cab mount I sell some cab mount boxing plates to recap them after cutting it back for tire clearance.

The Toyo's are even a comfortable ride which surprised me. I thought for sure it was going to be bumpy as all get out but nope, smooth sailing.

Alright gents, the decision has been made. Evaluating all relevant factors, especially the "cost to appearance value" area, I've come up with the following:

XD Series MonsterII Wheels: 18x9 (+18 offset)
    Toyo OC M/T Tires: 295/70/18

I simply can't overlook how beefy those tires look in the picture above (thanks again for showing that to me "chphilo").

Speaking with a friend who owns a wheel/tire business here in town, I'm looking at about $2200 for the entire package installed. From what I've seen online, this is a pretty smoking deal.

Anyhow, thanks again gentlemen. I really appreciate the thoughts on this matter.

Has anyone gone with a 295/60/20 with a 0 offset wheel on their 14 tundra. Looking to do this setup but need information.

I'm of the mind you'd definitely get tire rub without a lift (probably even with a lift), particularly at the body mount. I found this thread on the subject at Tundra Talk.net:

    http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-wheels-tires/94064-295-60-20s-0-offset-wheels.html

I've seen quite a few threads with people talking about +12 through +18 being a safe offset which wouldn't require any vehicle mods with a tire that size.

I'm assuming you're planning to just replace the stock tires. Here's the difference in sizes per the tire size calculator I use:

    Tire 1 Tire 2
    Diameter 31.9 33.9
    Width 10.83 11.61
    Sidewall 5.95 6.97
    Circumference 100.2 106.6
    Revs/Mile 632.4 594.6

You're looking at a 2" difference in diameter and 1" higher sidewall. Once you drop the offset by 50mm, which is a little more than 2", I think you'd definitely get some rub. Try contacting the manufacturer of the weeks you're considering and see if they make the size you want with an offset of +18. There seems to be a consensus with that being a safe offset. Either way, you may need to do a lift with the difference in diameter being as it is.

Hope this helps, and best of luck. Picking out the wheel/tire combo you want is a pain in the friggin' arse!

I'm just guessing here but I believe the stock wheel on 2014 Limited is +50 offset. If you go with the +12 offset your tires should stick out about another 1.5" give or take a little. Adding more offset with +0 offset will add about 0.5" to that (estimating).

You should be able to avoid any metal rubbing as you're effectively moving the wheel out and away from the body mount and pinion. The plastic is where your worries will likely play out.

The rule of thumb (since every truck is slightly different) is that with a leveling kit, if you go with 0 offset, 33 inches is just about the largest you could go without having to start cutting some serious stuff. I have 295/70/18 on 18 mm offset (with 3 & 1/2 inch front lift) and the people at the shop where I got them installed told me that my tires are very very close to the body mount. Granted that 295/60/20 is slightly smaller than 295/70/18, I still would not even attempt to mount that size on zero offset wheels. (Of course, you could always lift your truck higher)

Yes it's with a 3/1 pro comp leveling kit. I want the aggressive stance so the guy said to go with 0 offset and try the 295/60 and if they touch the body mount then he will put on standard 33" tire and it will defenitly be good.

What are you going to do with your black stock wheels? Ive got 20 inch tss wheels, but im entertaining the idea of black 17 or 18s. I think that size wheel looks really good with 33s.
