    I could see a fleet truck single cab that doesn't haul much in the way of weight, but needs a p/u bed....but yea, outside of that, no thanks....

    @speedtre fist gens only came with the 4.7l. Thats what i said, i never said 2nd gens didnt come with the 4.7l.. lol

    They also had the 3.4 and 4.0 V6 as well. And you could get those with a 5spd and 6spd manual as well.

    I'm doing mine now. 227,000 miles. There is no evidence that the belt has ever been changed. my truck had a single owner for most of its life, and all the dealer service records are available...I even called the service manager to check. Nothing! I've been worried about this since I got the truck, however needlessly so. It looks nearly new!

    Well, I'm in there now, so I'll change it out. I have the Aisin kit so I hope I won't have to worry about it for another 200,000 miles.

    @w666 wow. Hey i know these belts last a long ass time, but why not just do it every 90-110k just to be safe? These trucks are the last of a dying breed and we need to keep as many of them around as possible. Why risk it

    @w666 i took " hopefully it lasts another 200k" as hopefully the belt lasts 200k again, instead of just the truck in general, my bad

    I would avoid the eBay route at all costs. Unless it’s coming from an toyota dealer. Counterfeit parts are rampant on eBay. You do not want to cheap out on parts because of the belt fails, your replacing the engine.


    Aisin timing belt kits are oem without the Toyota price tag

    That top kit likely isn’t real OEM the seller is based out of HongKong.
    I believe aircabinman is the trusted eBay oem source

    I would just use the Aisin Kit. If you do the work yourself you are already saving $800-$1000 in labor. I was very impressed with the parts included when I did mine, they were the same as the parts I pulled off.

    I used the Aisin kit to do mine. Paid $179 i believe on Amazon. Replacement went great and all the parts were direct replacements. After 15k miles or so, I noticed I have a "whir or whine" that sounds like a tensioner pulley bearing gone bad that wasn't there before. It's possible it could be the water pump included in the kit that i replaced also. The factory hose clamps for the radiator hoses wouldn't reseal the hoses upon replacement. I replaced the radiator that was leaking from a crack by the filler neck and all the hoses at the same time. Definitely need new hose clamps if your replacing those. I'm not sure that my timing belt had ever been replaced before I did it. Bought the truck with 99k miles on it and no definitive service records. Replaced it all at 212k. Zero issues up till then and the belt looked great upon replacement. I would buy the Aisin kit again, I would steer clear of cheap kits. This is a rather involved job that I wouldn't want to repeat because of cheap parts that fail prematurely. I highly recommend having another like minded mechanic or friend assist with the job. Someone needs to laugh at you when you bust your knuckles, open a fresh beer for you when your hands are greasy and celebrate the finished job with you when it miraculously fires up again.

    I have a 2006 with the 4.7. Can anyone confirm if this is an interference engine or not. I’ve read conflicting reports. I have 105k miles and am about to pull the trigger on this....

    It is an interference motor for sure...you are living on borrowed time....buy the Aisin Kit and change that belt, water pump and cam seals ASAP.

    I found the same issue with mine when I changed the belt a few months ago. I used the Aisin kit plus I bought an OEM thermostat and seal.

    What seems to be the best way to remove the crankshaft bolt. Probably the only tool I’ll need to buy for this job....

    This is not an issue of how far you can go with a timing belt! When it fails it is game over, your engine will be completely ruined! I am sure that these belts will last much longer than the recommended replacement time but taking that risk is foolish unless you want to fork over several thousand dollars for a new motor.

    Get a good quality impact and you should have no problem with that bolt. No need to hold the crank pulley.
