    Thanks man. My thoughts exactly.

Haven’t had a “Tonka/Toyota” truck in 35 years, but have fond memories of them in my youth. Sort of like a Boston Whaler skiff...it always got you home. And was tougher than you... thank the Lord. :)

The 3 Lexus SUV’s that my wife has had over the years have been totally bomb proof. Just weird to have this happen on my new Tundra since I bought it for its simplicity, reliability and quality. Wait and see. :)

I’m just joking man. I know u said it’s getting fixed and all and shit happens. Glad they are taking care of you.
I mostly fished fresh water mostly trout and panfish and once in a blue moon bass. Offshore I haven’t done much and fishing in general has been on hold since now the kids sports and activities keep me busy. Where you from?

Lived in South Orange County for 40 years. Now on the East coast.

The Sierras and Havasu should be GOOD fishing real soon!

I think it’s just the way they are made. It’s all plastic, and then the factory just paints it after it’s assembled. Break yours off... I’m sure it’ll look identical.

And to the individual who thought the truck was in an accident before I bought it, highly doubtful. I saw it roll off the delivery truck into the yard. And they don’t have a body shop in house. But the world is crazy, so who knows... :)

I think most people are seeing what I’m seeing, which sounds like what we are seeing is incorrect.
The colored/marked up area doesn’t look like factory gloss paint, but I’m guessing it is? LOL :D

We understand underneath the broken off part isn’t painted. But everything else should be factory, nice, glossy paint.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
Definitely something wrong here. I just checked my gas door cover and it is finished the same front and back. Yours seems to be unfinished and scratched up. That is not a 1300 mile gas cover.

More to this story but I don’t really give a hoot. Lol.

    Truck is brand new.

Had it for less than 2 months.

It’s an iPhone pic taken indoors at the dealer with interior garage lighting.

    Enough with the conspiracy theories...

I once took delivery of a brand new 2006 Camry. Something didn't look right but I thought maybe it was the lighting. I brought it home and looked it over better. I found the drivers side fender and front door were repainted. The finish wasn't as good as the rest of the car and there was even overspray. I returned the car the next day and asked for an explanation. The sales manager played dumb but did refund my money.

I didn't realize this till years after the fact... after issues with my driver door rubbing on the dash, electrical issues and paint peeling on the bed all on the driver side... checked the Toyota file and there it was.. no carfax though... fml...

I wonder if you have any recourse on this. I'd be all over the selling dealer about it.

I think we are all seeing the "halo" effect from the lighting. I'm no professional photographer, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night.

I’ve heard this as well .. but that the figure is actually upwards of $2k repair that they can get away without disclosing IIRC ... this came from a professional adjuster at a very busy independent collision / repair shop .. no idea what dollar value is correct, but the fact that they can essentially ‘hide’ any damage on a ‘brand new’ vehicle is garbage to me

The truck is parked inside, the white over spray part near his hand is the reflection of natural light coming in the garage door, the black under spray is the reflection of the black plastic.

It's a new truck, take it to the dealer and ask them to fix it.

Yes Sir, but my way of thinking and knowing of having to wait forever at the dealer to fix it, I would do my own, that's just me

I have had the gas cover come open after the car wash blower at the end hits it at the right angle and slams it open. But it all stayed attached.

Definitely agree with you... like I stated when they own a shop in their dealership there is really no telling exactly how much damage was done. I did notice the missing plastic screws in the door panels on both front and rear doors. Additionally my driver side tow mirror has been blinking since my 3rd year of ownership, sections of primed but not painted metal work behind the front bumper among other things.... not sure if its all related to the incident, but I chalked up most issues as to being the 1st year run problems, on top of that I was young AF, and dumb..... Although My MR2 and Celica at the time, both bought used didn't have any of these paint type issues which most of my conclusions come from...
I had the dealership call me on a yearly basis to congratulate me on acquiring the vehicle, when I found out about the damage, I didn't hesitate to give him a piece of my mind..... Probably the last new vehicle I'll ever own, rather go used and think its been wrecked and hidden then buy new and major underlying issues like this one.

Actually that is not according to Toyota's design. That is a QC screwup...or a very poor on-site repair. The factory fuel door is painted without the hinge assembly, and the painted door is snapped onto the hinge arm on the assembly line, OR, the fuel door assembly is provided to the plant by a supplier already pre-painted. Many manufacturers install color-matched, pre-painted plastic parts from suppliers with incredibly good color matches.

Not sure why the door didn't stay on the hinge, but it's definitely not properly painted. That should have been flagged, but plants hate stopping assembly lines. Maybe the half-ass assembly indicates the line guy wanted it to fall off. Final inspection should have kept it from ever leaving the plant.

I have observed Toyota will leave protected areas, like inner fenders in the engine compartment and some door jambs without clear coat. I'm not sure if your white is a single stage product, but the back of my fuel door (MGM) is fully base coated and clear coated. The back of your fuel door appears to have been primered only. The color of any protected areas will always be the same base coat (or single stage) paint used on the exterior surfaces, plus it should have full coverage. Yours is primer only, not even close to color match.

I just went out and examined my fuel door on my 2020 and it 90% painted but at the end of the hinge, it is like op's door. but not nearly as bad.

OK, on closer exam, I find my fuel door is actually NOT fully clear coated. What I thought I saw as clear is only clear overspray on top and outside edge. The lower half and inside portion is not cleared. I do have full coverage of the MGM matte base coat, like underhood.

It can happen. I had to take mine in (with less than 6000 miles) to have a cable replaced in the steering related area. Several times when turning a hard left (like a u-turn) the truck would lose power, like it was in limp mode. The shop was able to detect what had gone wrong with their reader software and ordered the part in. Couple of days later I had it installed and so far (knock on wood) no repeats of the issue.
Was NOT a good feeling to be facing oncoming traffic broadside since the truck could barely get out of it's own way when it happened.
