So a couple weeks ago after parking at a kindve sketchy place to meet for work I tried filling up and after about a second it clicked like it was full. May be coincidence but I’m seeing similar issues but no real answer. So anyway I went to a different pump and same thing happened, I moved it almost all the way out and did a 360 no combo would let me do anything but trickle gas in it. Today I took the smallest of the 3 vent hoses off that I think goes back to the tank and it still acts like the filler neck has a blockage. I’m wondering if there’s some sort of valve stuck shut in the neck or If someone tried stealing gas and messed it up. I have 48k miles on it and no extended warranty any advice would be greatly appreciated

Do you always top off your tank? If so.....not good. Evap system could be messed up from over filling.

What? Did your roll over valve get stuck Eric?

No sir. Suspect the OP has the problem. I just quoted you seeing as you have some experience with this.

So what goes wrong with the filler neck, is the roll over valve in the neck Or Will it be in the tank once I drop it and pull the filler neck off? Haven’t messed with it yett just wonder what I’m getting myself into.

Maybe it is a lingo deficiency on my part, but where I am from, top of the tank just means you filled up. What are you referring to? Continuing to fill up after the first click?

Yes. Topping off after first click eventually can saturate evap system filter causing the symptoms the OP is experiencing too. The manual warns about overfilling. Not a cheap fix. That's been more of a reported problem with filling issues than a faulty roll over valve although that can certainly be OP's problem.

The roll over valve is in the tank, +/- 7" down inside. @WFD473 just shared with me a GREAT pic of a jammed roll over valve. Maybe he'll post it here.

Here's the pic of the valve I shared with 831Tun. As far as I can tell, it seems operational. When I push down on it with a long screwdriver, it pops back up easily. Which makes me think that when fuel is flowing down, it allows it to flow and then when it's full, it snaps back into place, stopping the gas pump.

No real contributing answer, but this was one of the fears holding me back from doing the 38 gal swap onto my 08. A few posters in that thread have had this failure. Hope there's an easy fix so I can convince myself to do the mod.

And another non contributing answer, but if you fancy a read. This article was oddly enough on Jalopnik today regarding refueling pump failure .. but this problem seems to be on the car/tank side vs the gas station side.

I don’t have a CEL and so can I just buy a new vent valve? I take it I can’t considering everyone I’ve seen with this issue fixed under warranty the dealer replaced the entire tank. If so does anyone know the part number? I can’t even trickle gas in it now by the way. Also how did you “rework” your valve Warren?
