Seafoamed my engine.

I did the seafoam spray after my engine developed a strange rattle sound when idling and I took it to the mechanic, he said it was fine.

I then watched the seafoam vid from projectfarm on youtube and I decided to give it try.

I sprayed the seafoam spray in the throttle body and it totally got rid of the rattling sound. It sounds like my buddies 19 tundra again.

I still plan on pouring 8oz in the crank and the gas tank when I'm super low on gas.

That’s awesome that it worked! One thing I’ve always done when adding a cleaner to my fuel system, like Lucas and other products similar. I always did it right before my oil change was due. I felt like Whatever crap I cleaned out may possibly end up in the oil. At least those are my feelings on it and it made me feel better to change the oil after the cleaning.

 

I use Seafoam in the crank and tank before an oil change as well. I buy two cans, put 7oz in the crank, fill the tank to where it's around 1/2 tank (I have the 38gal tank) and put the rest of the can plus the other one in the tank. I also use Top Tier gas, so this is probably overkill, but I do like to try and get out as much buildup as possible.

 

I used it in a Tacoma that I had years ago and someone called the fire dept bc they thought it was on fire. Took care of the mosquitos though...LOL.

 

Usually do 500miles before my next oil change.
Can in a full tank of gas, half can or so in the crankcase and then the rest intake system. Never had much of a cloud when doing via intake....assuming because we are MPI.

Did the SeaFoam Engine Spray SS-14 for the first time this fall after never having done it before on the 2002 4.7 V8.

It really cleaned that inside manifold surface and turned it from soot black to shiny aluminum again. I had already cleaned the throttle body plate with success using a rag and cleaner, but noticed the soot all up in the manifold. Got to reading how the intake valves can get sooted up, as well. This is the only way to clean them other than total engine disassembly so I bought some spray.

Got nervous after the treatment with the smoke and roughness of engine, but it really settled down after a while. I’ll do this every year from here out for prevent maintenance. A can of SS-16 in the tank helps too.

 

I seafoamed my engine, still waiting to get closer to an oil change to add a little to the crank and fuel. I didn't do a thorough before and after check, but I feel like once a year, it helps keep things moving.

 

I use MMO in the tank every 4 tanks during the winter...once a year in the crankcase 500 miles prior to oil change...if you have old fuel and don't drive a lot it usually just drive short bursts most of the time, I suggest BG44k fuel treatment a couple times a year...that's just my personal opinion after owning German vehicles...works well...

I typically find myself getting at least 2mpg better for one tank AFTER the tank with the "juice" in it...doesn't make sense to me but it's been consistent over 3x...

 

So far no mpg gain. I reset my mpg to see. Still at 13.7 to 14.

 

If I'm not having any issues, should I do what some of you guys are doing? Only thing I've done was a fuel additive last year, was at a dealership getting a oil change and saw the additive, bought it poured in

 

You dont need no additives in a Toyota engine, waste of money, it's not a domestic pig. Stay with the same brand of oil, same hi octane gas, unless in travel take what you get, and rev the f*@# out of it once in a while. Gas mileage? What concern is that when you buy a V8.

I'm currently at 16mphs. I did indeed get a gain.

That's a unexpected yet fantastic bonus. I was just trying to get rid of the rattle.

 

Because the engine is made to for one, but not talking excessive here. If you have a stretch of road, take the revs up and enjoy. It's good for the engine to perform like it should, in safety and safe levels.......instead of driving like grandma all the time.

 

Can you explain your “rattle” a bit more?

I’ve got one too. Diagnosed as a bad timing chain tensioner. The rattle happens after the truck has been cold started and goes away when warm. Haven’t heard of an actual timing chain tensioner failure yet so I haven’t had it fixed yet. Mainly due to the fact that it’s 10 hours labour...

 

I had a rattle too. Sounded like one of the heat shields rattling though, and only on a cold start. I didn't do a ton of investigating, and it would last for a minute or two and then go away. Hasn't happened since I put some seafoam through the intake though. I'm not sure what the seafoam would've fixed, but the rattle hasn't come back yet.

 

I have that same rattle/knocking sound on cold startup. Some peoples in this thread say it's an exhaust manifold leak. Only on cold start & goes away after it's warmed up...manifold leak would make sense.

Mine didn't sound like it was in sync with the engine RPM like it does in this video or from the thread linked above. Maybe it was, the start up idle is pretty quick. I just figured mine was a heat shield or something, but it hasn't happened since doing the seafoam. It didn't happen the first couple of times after I brought it home, and then it's been a few weeks since doing the seafoam and I haven't heard it since.

 

My rattle sounds like your issue. It may have what other have stated it may be. It happebed to me cold or hot.

My truck would also make a winding sound on super cold day . It had since been problem free after the treatment. It has also only been less than a week so I'll update.

 

Mine would only happen during the first start of the day, and then it wouldn't happen after the RPM dropped from that first idling rpm. So like if I shifted into gear, it was gone, or if I waited a while to let the RPM's naturally drop, it would go away too. I could never get it again until the next day when the engine was completely cold.

Step 3: Tear intake boot because your car is old.
Step 4: Start getting weird idling issues and lean codes.

I used this once on my 01 Firehawk. I used the power brake booster vacuum line to suck in the Seafoam. I had to carefully let the hose suck in the seafoam to prevent the engine from stalling, but I have to tell you, I got clouds of smoke at first out of the exhaust pipes and then nothing. I felt it did its job.

 

I’ve got a can of RP Max Blast. Will be using it for the first time this next week, before oil change.
Anybody used it? Good as Seafoam?

Also been contemplating taking the manifold off for a thorough cleaning and perhaps a porting. Which might have to come first, before the RP.

 

Mine sounds exactly the same as the video in post 20. It is intermittent and seems to cycle on and off. It never makes the sound at the dealership. Hope I can get it fixed before my warranty runs out.
