Another squeaky tundra.

I. I’ve looked at most of your threads on the subject. 6000 miles ago I lifted the rear with shackles. 1.5”. Toytecs. Everything was great. Drive it for 4000+ miles like that. Then I decided to drop it to 1”. I wanted to take more rake out of it. Looks great. It just squeaks like hell. And it’s not every bump. It comes on and stays on. Then stops for a while. Stays more consistent on the highway. So. I’ve already trimmed the bed bolts. So that’s not it. I’ve siliconed the leafs. I’ve loosened the shackles. Tightened the shackles. Any ideas,?? I kept the factory bushings because they only had 3000 miles on them. Also they didn’t make a noise when I had them at 1.5”. I’m ready to order new bushings but Incase I missed something. I’m open to suggestions. Thanks.

 

I would bet it will be lower ball joints.

 

Truck has 9000 miles on it. 6 months old. I’ll drive it through the window at the dealership if it’s the ball joints. Plus it’s in the rear.

 

Gotcha. Didn't realize it was the rear. Did you check the spare tire?

 

The shackles are rubbing on a bed bolt. This is a common issue at 1” height setting. Mine did it do. Hit the edge of the bolt with a dremel and not a peep since.

 

You should upgrade those leafspring bushings. The stock bushings are shit. They have splines that grab the shackle and prevent it from articulating.

 

Yes I’ve had the tire out. Still did it. I’m guessing it’s gota be the rubber bushings.

 

It’s not the bushings. It’s the shackle rubbing on a bed bolt. I promise you.

 

x2 what @Danman34 said - at 1" the TT shackles will rub on the bed bolts. I had my TT shackles set at 1" and this is where it rubbed:

 

Like I was saying. I already trimmed the bed bolt.

 

I already cut the bolts down. Still makin noise.

 

How much did you trim them? Mine didn’t start making noise till about 3 weeks after install. I guess bushings settled or compressed to their final resting spot with load and the shackles started hitting. Maybe you didn’t trim enough.

I did replace the oem bushings with poly though. But the noise was only attributed to the bed bolt hitting.

 

@Danman34 did you have to take the shackle off to trim the bed bolts? I looked at mine and at a minimum I’d need to remove the spare tire to get room.

 

My truck was squeaking like crazy. It stopped when I removed the spare to put my shackles in. The tire now lives in the bed...lol.

 

No. Didn’t need to take shackles off. Just removed spare tire so I could get under there comfortably.
