I had FX-R 3.0s before in my Tacoma this time went with the Mini D2S 4.0, yours look good a long way better than stock halogens

Haha, I was trying to resist the impulse, when I get the truck I felt that was driving blind in the dark then I bought Phillips LED bulbs knowing that a retro is the best option but most expensive too, they looked good but still not what I'm used to, finally decided to pull the trigger and now I'm were I wanted since day one no regrets.

 

How did you wire the LED's to the parking lights without splicing?

 

@iHacker do you have a write up on how you wired your lights? Looks like you have full use of the stock ambers as DRL's and turn signals but you can also run the LED strip any way you like (I.e. With the stock ambers or without,switchback works and they aren't dependent on the headlights being on). I'm about to install my retros and I've been trying to conceptualize this. If you do the DRL delete mod the stock ambers will only work as turn signals or flashers correct? Then you wire the LED strip into the stock amber wire. Do the stock ambers then function as DRL's again because it's tapped into the LED wire harness? Or will the stock ambers still only function as turn signals and flashers? Also if anyone has accomplished the switchback install without cutting factory wires, can you please share? Thanks!

 

Sorry I didn't took pictures of the install or have a write up, but the install is very simple, first thing to do is the Amber DRL disable mod, the bulb still work as parking lights and of curse as turn signal and flashers, if you want to use the LED strip as switchbacks just connect the orange wire coming from the led strip to the red wire on driver side and to the pink wire in driver side. If don't do the Amber DRL mod the led strip will be always Amber. I enlarged the supplied harness to reach the cabin and just T-Tapped to a circuit running only with acc i used a test light and used the oem ground point in the cabin for black wire you can add a switch like I did if you want too.

I ended up disconnecting my orange wire to keep my led strip white all the time i think they look dimmed in daylight in contrast to the Amber OEMs

I didn't had to cut any factory wires just used t-taps like the ones in the pictures

What wire gauge is the one I need to buy if you remember? Is there several sizes or only one size?

I will have LED strip light switchback and also halos switchback so I was wondering if someone did tap wires to turn signal and disable factory DRL. I will need connect both LED strip light and halos as DRL but would like to disable factory DRL. It will be white/amber light (halos/LED strip). Any suggestions or pictures how did you finish it? Please advise because I am new to this and never done such a thing before in my life. I just would like to do it right on first place. I have Tundra 2016 and any help ifs welcome. I have eledobleU doing my lights now and should have them back on Friday. Is there necessary supplies I should get before I get the lights back such wire T-Taps, split wire loom tubing , dielectric grease etc.

I'm petty sure Leo wire everything together for LED strip and halos in a single wire he did on mine

Here is a pic I took real quick of where I tapped into the existing drl wire. Not a great pic but I pulled the pink wire out of the sheath and used a tap splice to connect it to the switchback wire on the headlight. I actually added some additional wire to the switchback wire coming from the headlight so I had plenty to work with.

Like @iHacker said the led wires from the headlight already have a plug on them and you just connect that to the led harness. It plugs into your fuse box for power and you have to ground it.

For the drl delete follow the instructions that @iHacker posted earlier on this thread. You can push it out of the harness with a thumb tack. Watch the video he posed up about popping the pins out of the plug. It's helpful. It did take some work, but the wire will pop right out.

DRL DELETE MOD


1. Remove dash panel (in cab). It's the panel where the mirror controls, door light switches and leveler knob is.
2. Locate Flasher Relay
3. Locate the SMALL GRAY WIRE (not the big wire). Its two vertical rows, it will be on the first row of wires.
4. Cut small gray wire.

Done.

In this process I just popped out the gray wire pigtail I don't need to cut the wire just in case I decide to go back to stock to sell or trade in my truck, if this is the case just pop in the pigtail again and simple as that





I used a thumbtack like this one to take the pigtail out of the connector

And sorry didn't took pictures or a video on how to do it step by step but I found this video, our conector is almost the same kind
Just release the latch that prevents the pigtails from loosening or taking out, insert the push pin and pop out the pigtail from the conector

In the video go forward to 8:30 where he starts doing what I'm talking about, I hope this help out because I know there's a lot of people like me that hate cutting factory wires

This is the perfect picture to show you were to tap the orange wire coming from the LED strip to make the switchbacks work thanks @RW-3 the passenger side wire is pink like the one in the picture and for driver side the wire will be Red of curse this is coming from the DRL/Blinker OEM conector
