I'm taking my wheels to the powder coat guy on Monday morning and am thinking of getting the lug nuts done to match the wheel color. Anyone done this? Any problems?

Larry I don't think it's worth getting coated unless it's free.
I imagine it will bust off as soon as the impact/torque wrench tightens them down.
What color are you getting wheels done in?

A little of this and a little of that.
I agree with Phillip, torque wrench will strip the coating off.

Thanks for the input. I found out that the TRD Package wheels are the same as the TRD Pro have the black removed from the out side edge. I like the Pro wheels but I'm doing a different color a bit lighter. It's called Titanium Silver but looks like a dark grey. I just wanted it to be a little different

I bought Gorilla black lugs on Amazon for like 50 bucks and still holding strong after several tire rotations. Even cheaper if you don't want wheel locks

Me personally I would find a finger polish paint or something you would prefer that is close to your finish and once installed paint them. Then hang onto it for touch ups for later?

I have black powder coated lug nuts. The manufacturer recommends you tighten them by hand and not use an impact. Powder coat if done right is just as strong if not stronger than paint. Just my .02

Thats what I'm thinking. I'll talk to the powder coat guy. Maybe no impact guns. Thanks.

Anytime I take one of my vehicles in to get tires rotated I make sure they start the lugs by hand first. Otherwise they often cross thread the studs. What color of powder coat are you thinking of using on the lugs?

Same as the wheels, it's called titanium silver. Kind of a dark metallic grey. Hopefully it will have the look that I want. I found a Dupli-color wheel paint that matches very close that I'll use on the cap.

I got the wheels back yesterday and got them mounted. I talked to the powder coat guy and he said that he hasn't had any problems with doing the lug nut because they really sand blast the nuts heavily and the coating sticks fine. We will see. Here is mine although they look darker than this as the flash went off.

I'm getting the 5100's put on and a alignment tomorrow. When the sun comes out again I'll post picks of the whole truck.

It appears that this is the largest size and I think the Tundra lug nut is 22 mm? I think I would need 27-22?

Screw you... seriously... screw you. That picture just cost me a set of wheels, tires and powder coating. That looks freakin' awesome against the white. And we know that all the cool kids drive white trucks.

If the powder coater is good it should hold up just fine, besides you should never impact your lug nuts!

I'm really happy the way they look. I'm a old guy that wanted to keep the original geometry on this truck with a bit larger tire. I've had the big tires and wheels. Yea, cool old kids drive white trucks. ;-)
