What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I think you need to work on it more then....

 

I got the last section of cover on Friday night. It doesn't fit as tight as the rest, but I might fiddle with it more to tighten it up some. I also did the @Professional Hand Model shim under the front of the seat mount mod and I like it so far.

 

Took a little road trip up to Prescott to pick up a camper trailer for my grandma and I don't know what we hit, but it slashed my tire enough for it to explode right ont he innerstate. Luckily, nothing happened to the truck, which is really surprising considering it completely exploded.

And while i was getting the tire replaced, i figured it would be time to upgrade to larger tires, but the bigger size was rubbing on my coilovers, do y'all know what i can install to allow bigger tires. I have a 2 in leveling kit on the front end and the coilovers stick out and bigger wheels won't fit.

 

Bigger wheels won't fit? Where is the tight spot that won't allow for bigger tires and or wheels?

so this is not my truck, but its the exact same set up. it rubs right where the circle is..
I'm currently running 275/70R16, i was fitting 285/80R16

 

Wheel spacers or wheels with less backspacing. They are exactly the same with the exception of another set of lug nuts to use tamper check marking on and keep tight.

 

I really dislike leather, but that is looking sharp!

 

That makes sense and kind of what i was thinking. I have a buddy that had to get spacers on his Tacoma, and he recommeneded these, https://www.carid.com/2000-toyota-tundra-wheel-spacers/g2-axle-gear-wheel-spacers-498450685.html, i think its time to drop some more money on the Tuna, because those bigger wheels loooked super nice on it.

 

What he said...and did you mean 285/75R16? I've never heard of 285/80R16s...

 

Ordered the rest of the Skid Row skid plates line up other than the front skid which I already have. Gonna try install this week and take the truck on some trails this weekend. They should be here on Tuesday. Just a couple holes to drill to make it all work. Im excited for the extra protection when Im out there!

Ok, makes sense...those will usually work on stock Tundra 16 inch rims without hitting the upper control arm...are you still using the Tacoma rims in the pic above with the blowout?

 

Trust me from experience. Only use BORA or Spidertrax wheel spacers. Cheap parts are cheap parts and this is one area where you absolutely don’t want cheap parts.

 

yeah, i'm still using the Tacoma rims, so i can either get spacers or just Tundra specified wheels would work. i guess im going OfferUp shopping

 

This site will be your friend trying to figure out what rims will and will not work.

 

Drove around this morning collecting parts. A few other parts were delivered to the door.

Put the China knobs on. Took some pics so you can see how they match up with the OEM broken and repaired ones. Overall they are almost identical in spec/size. The plastic seems pretty strong, as well.

Crawled under and sized up the new brake flex hoses which seem the exact length. The outside diameter on these new ones are almost half the OEM originals. Amazing. Feels like a quality product with the PVC coating melded into the stainless braids.

One Man Power Bleeders seem quality, as well.

 

I second this. Also, the rims you're using have a 30mm offset and stock was 15mm so changing to a different offset rim might give you the clearance you need.

 

My buddy had the same issue on his 01 tundra with starfish wheels. I sold em a set of 4 1.25 inch spidertrax spacers and cured it.

 

I have a set of Wheeler's brake lines waiting to go on.

 

Nice. My original plan was to install these before doing anymore brake service. I want to see apples for apples if just upgraded flex brake hose make any difference, but I may just do all my rear brake stuff at one time and bleed once.

We’ll see what tomorrow holds.

 

Here are the rear drum cylinder rebuild parts. Forgot to include these earlier and to mention how much quieter the truck sounds with the added insulation from yesterday.

 

What’s the part number on that grease? I’m tired of the little packets

 

Might have found a phone holder that's ideal, although I do wish it was a little taller and closer to my line of sight. I could also place it in the pull-out cupholder. Will see if it wiggles when I drive:



Also bit the $50 bullet and installed a new gas door lock because I was tired of it flapping all over the place. Previous owner lost the key.

Yeah, that sucks. I had to pay that for mine from toyoder too.

 

Added some weight today! 18lbs over stock power plant. I put some foam tape on to bottom of the tray because I wasn’t liking how the paint dried. But she started up like a rocket after being without power for the weekend. I ordered SDHQ battery post terminal kit, hopefully it won’t burn down.

 

Nice call on the foam. I did a similar move and doubled up on my Butyl Rubber on the bottom side and also put some inside on top of the tray, as well. Rust Reform and bed liner on the metal areas.

 

Was a great time to throw a couple of backseat butt warmers in; did you consider it?

Nah, my kid is the only one back there and he's in a seat still. I don't expect anybody sitting on the seat back there more than 1 time a year. Nobody has sat back there besides me since buying the truck August 2018 and nobody but me has driven my truck besides my dad one time when I was out of town. So the only person on the seat back there was me when I wanted to see what it felt like haha.
