You have in fact had these problems you just haven't noticed because you're probably not OCD like OP, and I bet if OP posted pics of these "issues" you'd realize its not something you'd personally ever complain about. As a former detailer that did paint correction I can find imperfections on literally ANY brand new vehicle <$100k, they'll just for the most part be too small to bother dealing with.

OP has some untreated rail dust, slightly misaligned bed, and slightly off trim piece. Its understandable that they aren't covered by warranty, but they're easy fixes nonetheless and OP should just go to a bodyshop to align the bed if it really bothers him that much, then get a detailer to correct the paint, trim piece sounds like there's DIY solutions.

I always had to switch dealers to get my trucks issues fixed, it seems. Have you tried different dealers?

These are not issues I would complain about but to each his own.

I saw a thread on here couple years ago about a guy who’s Father in law spilled coffee in his new truck and he was literally talking about trading it in and buying a new one because of the coffee smell. I thought that was a tad over the top. So whatever - if you have the time to waste go fir it.

    I call Bull****!

    1. "Specs" your iphone can't pick up, your eyes can't freaking see.

    2. Your truck has an aftermarket lift/level, wheels, and tires. If it is obviously uneven when looking at it now, and you didn't notice before you bought it, you should be talking to whoever put your aftermarket stuff on it, not Toyota.

    3. Just like Tundralaw wanted a recall for a bed squeak after he put an aftermarket lift on his truck (that of course had nothing to do with it and is a problem no one else seems to have), this whole thing smells fishy to me.

Moral of the story is if it matters to you, you'd better go over the vehicle with a "fine toothed comb" before you sign. You're only somebody until you sign, then its a very different story.

I've had friends spend 4+ hours going over every inch, inside and out, with a dealership sales rep present taking notes and photos of all the stuff they need to fix before he signs.

Smart move we could all learn from, eh? : ^ )))

For sure, dealers really do make the difference.

Advisor and lead mechanics make or break the experience. I had a crappy advisor at purchasing dealership at first and switched to the advisor next to him on my next visit and it was night and day difference in how my issues were handled. Now I have a warped cowl trim issue causing rubber to pull away from lower windshield and live in a new area so I am not looking forward to finding out if new dealer/advisor is going to make it easy and fix or give me the runaround and say its normal. Fingers crossed.

This guy had 15,000 trouble free miles before his POS had tranny problems. Pretty good for a Dodge.
But, we are driving the POS and you’re driving the perfect beast. like I said, you can head on over to the Ram forums and see all the pissed off owners for yourself instead of trolling on a site focused on a truck you no longer own. You must be very bored.

Sometimes the paint specs are from the environment.

Does a clay bar or light compound take off the specs or are they under the clear?
    That would annoy me.
Last dealership I purchased my car, paid $300+ for a full exterior detail that took off those specs.

They appear to be in the black paint under the clear.

So, what exactly do you base that statement on....your own experience? I had many Ram and Ford trucks, never had a serious issue. When I did have a problem it was fixed under warranty. I currently have a F-150 Platinum with more electronic gizmos then you can count on both hands and they all work. Had a problem with a rattling sunroof (fixed with new tracks) and rear defroster not working (entire window replaced), both issues fixed first visit. There has to be a reason that the F-150 is and has been #1.

I also had issues with my 2018 Tundra but they were also fixed at the dealer. What couldn't be fixed were the cheap, subpar interior materials and switch gear. Maybe they get it right the next time and I be back in a 1794 or Platinum.

Your arguement is that the F150 is a more reliable truck than a Tundra?

Hans, I respectfully challenge your statement about "cheap subpar materials and switchgear". My son has a base model SR5 Tundra and I was impressed with the quality of the interior components of his truck. I guess quality can be subjective.

Basing the comment on my experience with my F-150. I had the sunroof issue and replaced under warranty. I had the rear defroster issue and they would not replace it. I was on F-150 Forums and that was a toss up whether it would get fixed under warranty. I was one of the unlucky ones you must have had a good dealer. I called Ford Corporate with no help. Escalated and escalated and got no where. Luckily I didn’t have the rear window explosion issue many others had.

The “fancy” Ford Sync radio? What a joke! I could go on and on. But you go right ahead and buy that new F-150...I won’t stop you.

As for RAMs? My brother has a 2011 and just replaced his engine at 95k miles due to the camshaft/lifter failures. Turns out it’s a common known problem with the 5.7 Hemi. Google “Hemi tick” and look through the RAM forums. He told me when I was looking for a new pickup to “get a Hemi!” Glad I didn’t listen.

Just to add, others have said it too. The mood on the F-150 forums was a lot more sullen and bleak. A lot of users complaining about this and that problem. The mood here on Tundras.com is quite the opposite. More upbeat discussions about mods and new gadgets, etc. sure Tundras have their problems all vehicles do, but the attitude on the different forums is noticeably different.

Forums can be tricky as a measure of the dependability of a vehicle. I agree some of the F150 are just downright depressing and the ones that aren't are filled with the F150 faithful who immediately chase away anyone with a contrary view of their favorite truck. One thing I've learned is if you have to read over and over again that the people complaining are just whiners because ALL forums are just full of a tiny minority of loud owners who are having a problem and that the vast majority of owners who have perfect vehicles simply don't visit these forums because only people with problems do...not a good source.

Examples - Tundra forums, in general, are positive places with a small% of posts dedicated to issues.

    - Wrangler forums are probably the most hostile places on the internet especially if you complain about your vehicle. Most there seem to think all vehicles suck, only complainers join forums and they flat out refuse to believe it's possible that FCA is a horror show and so are their new Wranglers.

Not saying your F150 isn’t great, but Ford is the #1 selling truck for two reasons:
    1. GM won’t combine Silverado and Sierra sales, otherwise GM would be the sales leader.
    2. Huge numbers of F150 fleet trucks.

But why come back here to argue? You didn’t like your 2018 Tundra. That’s cool. Good thing we live in a country where you can buy a Ford or Chevy or Ram. There are forums for your Ford where you’ll be worshipped for trashing the Tundra. The F150 is a hell of a nice truck. Period. Full stop. Isn’t it nice to come here and find a group of people that are glad you found something that makes you happy? I’ve found that most of the people here don’t feel the need to hop up and down because some guy on the internet bought a different brand of pick up truck...

Agreed - the forums generally convey a "mood" for the brand - not actual verified data on reliability or which vehicle is better, etc.

However, almost universally, any reputable vehicle information reveals two key points:

    1. Tundras top the reliability rankings for full-size pickups year after year.
    2. Tundras (and Tacomas) top the resale value rankings for all vehicle categories year in and year out.

Many ask "Why is the F-150 the best selling vehicle in all categories?" To which one might also ask "Why do Tundras top reliability and resale lists year in and year out?" I don't know why F-150s sell so good. It obviously appeals to the masses of truck buyers. I do know this: the number of possible build configurations of the F-150 dwarfs that of the Tundra.

If anyone doubts the resale value of a Tacoma or Tundra - you can prove it to yourself when you try to find/buy a used Tacoma or Tundra.
