So I’m about to pull the trigger on a new 2020 SR5 4x4 CrewMax with the TSS and SR upgrade package.

I have gotten 3 dealers to come in at the $39k price point and I’m curious if anyone has used the Costco auto program to buy a truck and if that price was better than what they got the dealer down to.

I'm curious to see also if anyone has ever used Costco to buy vehicles, etc . . .

I was able to get a much better deal pounding the pavement and getting several dealers in my area to compete off each other to see how much at or below invoice they were able to go. Costco was a few thousand more - maybe $2k if I recall - than I ultimately got my new 2017 Limited.

We got a better deal on the Sequoia doing it ourselves. I don’t remember how much, but it wasn’t a ton. Almost would’ve rather paid a little extra instead of spending the time.

I tried the Costco route when I bought my '18 and it was not competitive, although I don't recall the numbers.

Costco is a great deal if you don't enjoy the "dealer experience" and don't mind NOT getting a "rock bottom, best ever" price.

My mom wanted a new CRV last year (she's 80), and I didn't want to spend weeks of my time hassling with salesmen, so I looked into the Costco pricing. Came out to $1,200 below invoice and 15% off "dealer add on's". The only add on she wanted was window tint. The dealer ate the cost of "paint protection" and crap like that. Best part, everything was done via email. When the car was ready we went in, wrote the check, signed a few papers, and drove off 30 minutes later.

    Pretty pleasant experience really

Well, my current offer is $39,900. That's for a CrewMax SR5 4x4 with the SR5 upgrade package, TSS package, bed liner, console safe, charging & connectivity package, power tailgate lock and vehicle protection package. It sounds like a pretty damn good deal, just didn't know if the Costco price would be lower.

Ask the dealership if they participate in the Costco program and compare. SAMs club does a similar program.

What’s the Edmunds TMV for that specific truck with all those options and add ones?

I used CostCo on my latest 2020 CM and came in a few grand cheaper. I printed off the costco quote and took it to my dealer of choice and then they beat it by another $500 bucks. I’d do it again.

I got a better deal having dealers beat each other compared to Costco. For a platinum I was offered 51k from
Costco which was basically them sending you to a nearby dealership I got mine down to 48,300 before taxes.

I used the TrueCar app and it was super easy. I think the dealer knocked about $4500 off the MSRP for my 2020 Limited Crewmax 4x4.

Invoice pricing minus any rebates is usually the best deal for them To go below invoice it would have to be like a end of the month or year quota thing. I always ask for the invoice ask for that pricing then check for rebates. Usually Costco and stuff is so much above invoice. New cars don’t have a lot of wiggle room maybe 2500-3000 or so. Depends on the manufacturer tho. GMC Chevy Ford always have those big rebates so don’t expect that on a Toyota

What part of country are you looking. Costco wasnt even close on my purchase in Texas. Much better off contacting internet dept of all the volume dealers within a few hundred miles. Find 2 or 3 at each of them that are close to what you want and get them to give best offers in writing.

I would say there is some more that can be deducted from that deal. What is the quote minus all their addons?

I popped into Edmunds, and they have an MSRP of $50,517, Invoice of $46,417, and a suggested price of $45,255.

Now, this is a new dealership in town and the guy I have been talking to says that they are hungry for business ( I know, never believe the dealer) and originally he was not the lowest offer. Now, per the dealership sticker, MSRP is $50,293 and they were listing it for $47,389.95. I compared things I found online like Edmunds to what my credit union car buying price guide has. My local CU has been great with getting very detailed pricing on my previous buys, and for this truck they are putting the MSRP at $48,150 and invoice at $44,461.

So, this guy is coming in almost $5,000 under the lower of the two invoice prices. And I have two dealerships offering the same price.

Had dealerships compete. Had the Costco price in hand, had a a check from my lender (bank) but I didn't use either. I got my 2020 limited CM spray in-liner at 40k tax, lic, out the door financed from their lender with a lower rate.

I am a little confused. But assuming I am following you, if you can get a $50,500 MSRP 4x4 Tundra for $39k, that seems like a solid deal.

Three times now, I've used this method:

I never buy at dealerships in or near my home and only buy on the last day of the month. After deciding what I want, I use Truecar and a zip code in a large metropolis a reasonable driving distance. For me, this means Atlanta or Charlotte which are both about 2 hours away. Once I have built the vehicle I want on Truecar, I hit the button for dealers to contact me and head out the door. During my drive, I will be inundated with calls from salesman. I tell them that I am on my way into town and will buy the best price for the vehicle that I built on Truecar. I'm not interested in anything but the OTD price, and I'm leaving with a car that day and I won't be back.

Frequently, they will want me to let them know if I get a better deal. I just say, "No just call me when your sales manager gives you the best number. BTW, I'm only X minutes from town now and currently headed to a different dealership."

Deal is done before I get there and it works great.

I just ordered a 2020 Tundra Double Cab Long Bed TRD Off Road Package. Thru the Costco Program.

The price was $ 1750.00 over Dealer Invoice. Future information on the pricing.

I "HATE" vehicle shopping. The typical "used car salesman" is alive and well at my local Toyota Dealer. Every time I take my "car" in for oil changes, tire rotation and computer check-up, the sales force has changed. (If you don't sell vehicles, you are FIRED!)

Many Costco Members use this program just to get an "HONEST" firm price. On a side note, the local TV station did an 'investigative report" on this Dealer, One customer was a little 'old' lady, and the other was newly employed Millennial. The price was 50% higher of the little 'old' lady. The vehicle was the same for each a Toyota Tacoma.

Honest Car Dealer is a Oxy-Moron in this area. Like Jumbo Shrimp, Government Intelligence, etc.

    Just my Humble Opinion.

Costco is hit/miss, when i was looking, the Costco program was no help, 39,900 is pretty competitive for a sr5 package. i would see if they can come in at 38 and bargain from there.

My research has told me that in BIG URBAN areas of the Continental US, Costco's Program is competitive. (Los Angeles, Ca and San Francisco, Ca.)

I am in the State of Hawaii, we are at a disadvantage because each vehicle must be shipped.

What are of the US are you doing your shopping ?

Costco program is good for people who dont want to put in any leg work and get an ok deal on the vehicle. I've used it as a base on multiple purchases knowing full well I can the a dealer to beat it, sometimes considerably depending on model, options, etc.

Costco price IS NOT the best price available.
It will be better than posted prices but that is about it.
My advice, go to the dealer, pick a truck you want and ask for 12% off MSRP minus any rebates you qualify for plus tax, registration and doc fee.
If this does not work, move on to the next dealer and repeat until you find one that accepts the offer.
DO NOT TALK ABOUT A TRADE UNTIL YOU ACHIEVE THE FIRST ADVICE ABOVE. Then bring in trade discussion once you get 12% off.

Hmmm... any science or reason at your 12% number? Or just picked at random?

12% of MSRP is the high-end of what I calculated many were getting when I looked last month. I ended up at 11.5% off MSRP plus 1.9% financing on my Platinum - no complaints. I have tried Costco several times and I was always able to beat it...usually by a significant margin just emailing back and forth with dealerships.
