I want to change my own oil

Like a FYI I won’t be coming back for anything unless I have to because you guys are pigs. LOL

 

They would hand me those 3 Phillip's head screws that go on the front of the skid pan or somebody might get the sheet knocked out of them

 

I’m going to start doing my oil changes too. Every six month or 5k. For me it’s 6 months. Don’t Drive that much, but I do idle a bit. I’ve considered amsoil Oe oil at 5.75 a qt. M1 ep high mileage ( high zinc and tbn) cheap at Walmart 30.00 per 5 liters and oem Toyota 7.75 pert qt. The dealer is close to my house so I’m going to buy the oil there. Also consider the trd filter.
I had the dealer install a trd a while back And with the trd filter my oil stayed clean for 4k miles and at the six month the oil still looked great before the change .I ordered a couple and the aluminum housing. When Do it this month it is what I’m going to use from now on. Hell I could change the oil and not the filter if I wanted with this filter.

 

Do you have the part number on the trd filter?

I change my oil in the wife’s 4Runner and my Tundra right around September and around March.

The aluminum filter housing, motivx kit, and fumoto valve are all must. I also use AFE pro dry S filters. Been running them for years. They are expensive initially but 100% reusable/washable

 

It looks like the TRD filter has the center tube integrated. I guess that means you remove the tube that is attached to the filter housing?

I just changed the oil today on my recently acquired used Tundra. That housing was on way too tight of course, and it cracked when I was removing it. Broke off one of the tabs that the filter wrench grabs, causing a hole in the housing. Luckily I already had the metal housing that I got to replace it.

 

Been there. Sucks big time.

 

The tube in the housing I think holds the spring loaded valve.

 

Sort of...The tube in the housing is attached to a disk that holds the spring. It can be detached from the disk.

 

The tube in the housing stays in place whether you're using the standard filter or the TRD filter.
You won't experience the stuck housing with the aluminum one as it won't swell with heat like the plastic one. Just make sure that you swap the tube from the plastic housing over to the aluminum housing.

Wow, good to know. I would be a little freaked out to pull the filter out and it looked like that!
