Let that thing cool down some before you try to unscrew. I broke a friends oil canister because the thing expands when hot and the soft plastic broke from the amount torque I applied to it. Use a wrench and use some impact force to get the cap loose.

I bought the Volvomax instead of the Fumoto, have not put it on yet but this seems to be a no brainer to replace the plastic with the metal one

9ft lbs to be exact. If done correctly it slides right off. The problem is the “techs” don’t own a torque wrench.

My wife's was stuck on one time. Could not get it off to save my life. Hit it with my impact driver and it came right off.

You guys with the fumoto valves in the drain and or filter housing. Do you ever worry about something in the road hitting the switch and leaking oil? I really like the idea of them and have almost purchased before but am just too paranoid about it getting opened up and leaking oil. I only change my oil once or twice a year so it's not a huge deal either way, just is obviously nice to not even need to get the wrenches out to change the oil.

Not really. The spring loaded lever must be raised over a notched area. But if you're really worried one of these can provide extra insurance : https://www.fumotooildrainvalve.com/lc-10.html

Luck and enjoy those Toyotas. : ^ )))

seems like most places including toyota dealers tighten too much, also they dont lube the o-ring on oil housing. I have been using a good silicone grease to lube the o -ring on housing no problems so far still have the plastic housing. I do have the aluminum housing just have'nt put it on yet

OK, this may be a stupid question. But I just ordered a 2020 Tundra. They will start the building the truck Jan 17, 2020 and it should arrive end Feb 2020.

I change the oil in all my cars. So, I wanted to change the oil in my truck. I want to be sure I understand this. See the very first pic posted on this thread. I used to think that your

Billet Oil Cap for filter was just a replacement for the silver part with the square nut. But it replaces the ENTIRE unit? Is that correct?

I’m in when they come of back order.

Yes, This would replace the plastic housing completely and has an integrated drain valve.
Also, I believe there is a new tool / wrench to purchase for removal as well.

Darn....So I have to buy a tool to remove the old filet house just ONCE. Then replace it with the Jowett Performance replacement housing Billet Oil Cap and get another tool for its removal? Anyone have a pic of the tool? Looks like the proper size deep socket may work. Unless its huge.

I just did my first oil change at 5k miles. Replaced the plastic filter housing with this item https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008BHP68A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When you replace the filter housing with the aluminum one, be sure to replace the perforated tube on the aluminum one with the tube from the plastic one as you'll see that the one that comes with the aluminum housing is a lot shorter than the stock one. Just get a flathead and bend the two tabs upwards and it will twist out.

I also thought the factory skid plate was a flimy pile of garbage so I replaced it with the trd pro skid plate. It's really nice having that oil filter access door so you don't have to take off the entire skid plate everytime.

This is the set of tools you wanna buy to get the filter housing off, put oil in the engine and drain the oil filter
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0791MWXDC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

One problem I had on my first oil change was the drain plug gasket was really stuck on the oil pan. It is an blue aluminum washer. I got it off with a screwdriver from the side making sure not to damage the oil pan at all.

This little guy is a life saver when draining the oil filter. The fumoto valve is for the oil pan. It is a life saver also because now I can just put the drain tube down into the old oil jugs I keep around for oil changes. no mess to clean out of the pan.

    Not at all.

    1. Fumotos have 25 years of development on them. JAPANESE development.
    2. You can get a plastic/nylon retainer clip that further locks down the lever/switch. New Fumotos (I just got one for the new 2019 Highlander I just bought) now come with this clip in the deal!!!!!

Stop worrying. Simplify your life. GO FUMOTO!!!!!

I realllllyyy want to and still may but I know I'd just be super paranoid about it so it may not simplify my life lol atleast when the drain plug is on, i know it's closed and can't open with out a wrench. I over research everything and so far your definitely right they have a very good track record and very few story about failure plus they back up their product. The one down fall I have read is that is causes the oil to flow out slowly which could cause particles that would normally flow out to remain behind and that on some models the threads sit higher in the pan than the drain so it doesn't complete drain out.

I have it and its great to change the oil with. If you're worried about the threads you could always let the oil drain slowly until it stops and then pull the plug to see it anything else comes out.

That's actually two alleged downfalls. :D

I consider those better reasons than an unplanned opening. Fumoto seems to have plenty of good experience in that regard. Now breaking it off on a rock while off-roading...I would consider that possibility if I off-roaded.

The idea of a Fumoto owner removing their valve after an oil drain to measure how much oil remains in the pan is a good idea. (hint-hint). We might be surprised by how little oil actually remains: the drain hole on UR engines is not positioned well to drain the pan completely, i.e. it is above the bottom level on the angled end, maybe deliberately to reduce exposure. (Aw ****, we'll have guys pulling their oil pan to get the last few ounces out.)

In the same situation, waiting patiently.
I figured I would inquire again closer to end of month if not available on website.

I have seen a few videos online and a lot of people use a torque wrench. Is a torque wrench necessary to oil the Tundra oil change? Can't I just do it without? Those damn things are expensive!

I've done many oil changes on different vehicles and never used a toque wrench, most mechanics won't be either. The goal is just to not over tighten it so you can get it off next time. With that said I have been meaning to get a torque wrench just because it is good to have one for torque sensitive applications.

I had this same issue with both my tundra and the wife’s 4Runner. With a little bit of heat from a propane torch they came right out. I haven’t changed the oil since switching to the aluminum housing but I’m quite confident I will not have any issues as I know the difference in 10lbs and 100lbs of torque.

Torque wrenches are about $10-15 at Harbor Freight. I understand not all their tools are of the best quality but I'd say their hand tools are pretty decent.

I run my Tundra up on a set of ramps. Not only positions things very well for engine oil evacuation but gives me much appreciated extra room to maneuver around under the truck for the oil service and any other "inspections" I may want to do at the time.
