Steering wheel is possesed. HELP

Hi, I've recently replaced the rack and pinion and power steering pump on my 2002 tundra 4×4.
This issue I'm having is weird. When I start it. The steering wheel is fine. But as soon as I touch it. It jumps back and fourth HARD like it is possesed. if you grab the steering while it's doing it. It will literally break your wrist. Any idea how to fix this? Anybody ever ran into this issue? Please help

 

Everything's new. New all new lines except for the reservoir line. Everything has fluid

A quick search suggests that you get this problem from having the hoses mixed up.

 

Cant mix the hoses up. Because the connections are different. Pretty fool proof

Are you certain the fluid is correct? Have you cycled the rack back and forth to purge it of all air?

After that, I’d be most suspicious of the new rack. Especially if it’s a rebuilt rack, and all the more so if it’s the likes of a cardone rebuilt rack.

 

You have air trapped in the rack. Raise the front wheels off the ground, and turn the steering wheel back and forth from stop to stop 10 or 12 times. Top up the fluid as needed, then start the engine and repeat.

@CodyFolmar I used this video to "flush" my power steering fluid. Just keep in mind it may make a huge mess.

Could air being trapped really make it go crazy like that? Should I throw in some holy water with it?

 

Well think about what the pump (compressor) is going thru. Tries to squeeze a liquid (doesn't compress much) then tries to squeeze air (compresses tremondously compared to liquids) then back and forth. Yeah that would like to a "possession" of something wicked.

Odd, typically electric power steering has this issue. Never seen it happen on hydraulic systems. In the electric power steering systems it’s typically a bad steering rack

 

If the lines between the rack and the spool valves are crossed, it will vibrate violently. If the spool valves are damaged or installed incorrectly, it can do this. If there is air in the system it can kick and buck. If the pump is bad (broken/missing vane), the steering will be buzzy and/or lurchy.

My first thought was air.

 

Since everyone is in the prediction/guessing business, I’ll say its all three. Bad (new rack), bad install (air trapped), bad install (lines kinked messed up somewhere). The trifecta!

 

I still stand by my first post. Spiritual exorcism is needed.

 

Yup, this is my conclusion as well. Could be a hydraulic problem with air trapped in the lines but that's boring. You definitely have an evil spirit in there. Find a priest, a cross and some holy water.
