Paint possibilities.

I’ve recently been considering going to Macco and getting the $1,000 base +clear paint job plus a few bigger dents being taken out as my paint is so bad at spots that you can see the primer. Anyone have any other recommendations?

 

I would stay away from maco. They usually just wipe down the vechcle. Not sanding or prep work.
I had to call around. Average in my area would be 3K to 4K. Have a local shop that does a very decent paint job with good prep for $1600.00. Me and my friends have used them a few times over the past 10 years.

 

I wouldn't let Maaco paint my refrigerator, let alone something I ride in everyday. LOL!

 

Any recommendations im a college student with not much money. And my paint seemingly overnight took a turn for the worst and the clear started chipping off as I drive and in some points you can see the primer.

 

If it is really that bad and your budget is that tight, which is totally understandable, then maybe Maaco is an option (if that's your only feasible option, then there is nothing you can do about it) Talk to them first and see how much prep work you can do yourself.

I know that's tough for some college students to grasp, but doing things yourself can be quite rewarding. Not to mention it can save you some serious money. If only common sense was a major.

 

Shop around. Might be a local shop that would do a better job for that money. Their rep is on the line where as Maaco is money by volume so they just try to get in as much as possible. Mom and pop shop might be better option if you can find one.

 

Ok I wanna learn some body work as I have a few pretty big dents anyway but little to no door dings surprisingly.

As others have said, stay away from Maaco...Get quotes from different shops, see what prep work you can do and what they can work with you on. If there is a Trade School or community college nearby that teaches Autobody paint you may be able to get them to do it for the cost of supplies...I had a car painted for around $300 20ish years ago, the instructors were professional painters and they made sure the students did it right.

this was 3500. but that also included a lot of dent repair, and removing the windsheild and rear window and doing door jambs. plus bedlining.

 

I’m at just over $150 in my recent paint job on my Tacoma. It came out better than I thought it would.
However, I have done paint work before and have since found out what I did wrong with the previous jobs.
I can look at my truck and see the flaws in the paint and know exactly why the flaw is there... cause I didn’t take more time to prep it. It’s not perfect but it’s a 20 year old truck.

Automotive Spray Industries has your products. Their color match system is spot on. Their clear coat isn’t glossy, but may be due to operator error. Overall, pleased for a DIY project. I used Bondo to fill the dent.

My bad on the wrong place.

You should try Duck Duck Go as a search engine. They seem less into mind control games, micro targeting, fake news, etc. I made the switch a few years ago and my perspective, which has always been different, seems even more diametric than ever compared to others.

Here is the link I used. Plug in your info for the proper paint match. I’d use big box primers and sand papers, etc.

Raptor liner blended to the color of your truck so you don’t have to paint door jambs. I would prep everything yourself by the kit he’ll you could even go to harbor freight and get a air compressor and be done for less than $1000.

This is what I’m going to do to my Tacoma.
