Does anyone on here run a scan gauge II on their 3rd gen Tundra? If so, will it monitor the transmission temp on a 2019 (since it uses engine coolant for cooling). I was hoping to monitor oil temp, trans temp, coolant temp, and exhaust temp. If possible. I see there is an X gauge for certain vehicles but not sure what all it covers.

Yes, I have one. It works great, but you have to do the custom x-gauges stuff for the tranny temp. I don’t think we can monitor oil or exhaust temps. Hopefully someone can confirm/correct me on that.

I use the Scan Gauge II on my 2018, and I believe you will be okay monitoring the 2 transmission temperatures as I believe the temperatures are taken from points within the transmission, don't see any wires in the cooler circuit for sensors. I have not been able to come up with codes for engine oil or exhaust temperatures, and coolant temperatures is available in pre-codes. I monitor the 2 trans temps, engine coolant and battery voltage with mine.

Thanks for the quick responces guys. My main concern is transmission temps while towing. The other temps would just be "nice to have" items. Now to see if I can get it here before christmas!

Is there one I should watch closer than the other? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the fluid in the torque converter isolated from the fluid in the pan/vavle body?

From what I have read from their website, the x-gauge codes lets you pick vehicle specific codes for certain gauges... I'll know for sure when I install it. Speaking of installing the scan gauge, where is everyone installing theirs at?

I got mine from the Scan Gauge website. They have a list for Toyotas.

Check out my build thread (link in signature). Post #27 towards the bottom of the first page.

How did you route your cable? I like that location... Is it easy to change gauges from that position?

I popped out the panel on the side of the dash and the speaker cover. I think I took the speaker out and then ran the cable down from there. It was fairly easy, but a slight PITA to route. Then wrapped the extra cable up under the dash. You have to lean forward from the seat to change it, but it's easy enough if you're parked. I like having it as far forward as possible; easier to do a quick glance while driving that way.

Thanks for the info. I'm not one to mess around while driving so that would be perfect for me.

My ex co-worker had the exhaust temp programmed in his scangauge or maybe already preprogrammed idk. I was going to ask him for the equation before he left the company but never did since I didn't find it to be very important and nothing I could relate to ... iirc, it would fluctuate between 900-1200°F every time we went to lunch. Kind of boring. lol
on the other hand, I like to read the engine oil temp but am told there is no sensor for it unless you install one yourself. Hard to believe Tundra ECU doesn't read oil temperature!

That Amazon page says the following regarding apps to use:

OBDLink MX+ works with dozens of popular third-party apps like Torque, Dash, FORScan, DashCommand, obdCANex and Harry's Lap Timer to unlock enhanced performance, save fuel, change vehicle settings and even control door locks and remotely start the engine on select vehicles.

    Which app are you using?
    iPhone or Android?

I'm specifically looking for something to give me trans temps.

    Thanks!!

It does work with 3rd party apps like Torque but if you use the OBDLink app it allows you to download OEM Enhanced PIDs which include the transmission temp at the pan and torque converter, I just use the pan temp since the torque converter temp changes very frequently. I am using Android.

the temp at the TC fluctuates more as thats where the heat is made....but i think the pan fluid represents best reading for temp of complete system...

the fluid circulates through everything constantly, but the friction is in the TC

I am interested in learning how to service the transmission on my 17 CM would this be a good tool for getting the fluid level correct by knowing the correct temperature range ? Not really trying to hijack your thread but the trans temp thing seems to come up for towing and servicing.

Thanks for posting these... They still work for my 2019. This helped me avoid typing the first two codes listed and getting frustrated. It is the third and fourth codes listed on the site!

After reading through the codes on the website, is that supposed to be 3008 instead of 3808? I used 3808 and it is reading slightly higher than 2808, but the website only has 3008, not 3808.

I'm using the one that HTGreen had posted a while back and they are correct and accurate. I think the website doesn't have the complete info.
3808 is the TC temp and will typically read higher than 2808 (pan temp).

if cruising and TC is locked, both temps should read the same.

appreicate you posting that. Works well for my 2nd gen. So which of the two would be more important regarding high temperatures? I’ve noticed TF1 (pan) shows lower temps, should I monitor that to make sure it doesn’t get over ~220 or should TF2 be the one I should be concerned about? Thanks

I would be more concerned with the Pan temperature (TF1) than the Torque Converter (TF2), TF2 comes down to TF1 when the converter locks up. But, I watch both. I also pin open the thermostat when I'm going to be towing heavy for some distance, this keeps both temperatures down.

Thank you. Same here. Definitely pinning open the thermostat on hotter days, while towing, etc.
