What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

glad to hear I'm not the only one with a short commute and single digit MPGs.

 

50 bucks in gas today hurt. oh well. lol ive got 3 other cars to drive with better MPGs lol

its actually 6.3 miles according to my phone.

 

so if im going black with the interior. the center stack on the dash, around the radio, should i Hydrodip it in carbon fiber? lol... im just trying to figure out a interior design.. want the truck to look and feel good to me.

The 13 degree days and the engine running rich when cold is the big reason. Long commute would be wayyy better

 

Moving things at work to storage

 

Ohhhh makes sense my throttle body and my plugs were bad for a while so on a good day I would get 9. This truck is my only vehicle so I gotta be on top of maintenance.

 

Fresh t-belt, fresh fluids, new plugs. She’s as healthy as she can get. Just shitty winter fuel and short cold trips

 

I need to figure this out. Tried once but didn't make enough effort. How do you tighten the cable?

 

Its a turnbuckle. Use two wrenches and adjust accordingly. Make sure you guys do this adjustment at the backside of the rear wheels, as well. This entire systems mojo is finicky. If one thing is off, then the whole deal is off.

 

I did this before and did not get the same results as @TX-TRD1stGEN Clearly I didn't do it correctly. I'm a visual guy. I learn best from videos.

Edit- I thought you said your parking brake sucked? Did you figure this out?

 

I did. We put the drum adjustment cable where it is supposed to be on both rear wheels inside the drum on Monday this week. I’ve driven and exercised the brakes and the mojo is back in proper form. The PB can stop the truck at slow speeds now, whereas before it could not.

It's way more than Toyota (but I'm guessing you know that). Deming came up with TQM and tried to sell it to American industrialists. Well, it being after the war, America could sell EVERYTHING it made to the rest of the world that had no manufacturing capabilities, so they told him to go pound sand. Toyota is the poster child for adopting TQM (and Deming is revered at Toyota) but really it was all of Japanese industry that adopted his practices which made them such an industrial powerhouse in the decades after the war. The term "japcrap" goes back to my dad's childhood in the late 40s to mid 50s when cheaply made products were imported from Japan. He always found it hilarious that by the early 70s they were trouncing American cars in quality given the reputation of Japanese made products when he was a kid.

The rigid process of TQM combined with the cultural rigidity of Japan (including work ethic) was a match made in heaven. It's not quite as important anymore with all the automation involved, but the 4Runner is still the best Toyota platform you can buy in the US...since it's still made in Japan.

help me out here. I don't have the gap between the adjustment screw and the backing plate. How exactly were you able to make improvements?






Or are you saying you took slack out up towards the front of the truck?

I adjusted the one up front in drivers side (2nd pic).

 

Mine had no Gap and cables are all tight.

I rebuilt my brakes last year as well so that might help?
