Speaking of transmissions I’m starting to think I may just take the trans out and send it to the tranny shop. It just feels... off in 5th gear on the gas. Wonder if line pressure isn’t high enough. We’ll see what my trans guy says when I see him,

    From FSM:
    10. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
    (a) Park the vehicle on a level surface.
    (b) With the engine idling and the parking brake applied, shift the selector into all positions from the P to
L, and then shift into the P position.
    (c) Pull out the dipstick and wipe off the fluid with a clean rag. Re–insert the dipstick and check that the
fluid level is in the HOT range.
    (d) Do this check with the fluid at normal driving temperature (70 – 80°C, 158 – 176°F).
    HINT:
Wait until the engine cools down (approx. 30 min.) before checking the fluid level after extended driving at
high speeds, in hot weather, in heavy traffic or pulling a trailer.

Wow. I towed max weight for 75 miles on local roads and I never hit higher than 170.

165-180 is ideal. Transmissions like to run 160-180. Any higher is bad. Loser isn’t to great either.

So do I cover up my transmission cooler for the winter? I’m sitting like 100-130 for daily driving. Probably explains why my MPGs drop by 3-4 in the winter.

That’s mostly fuel related. Do you have a aftermarket trans cooler? The engine coolant being ran next to the trans cooler should keep it toasty

You and I spoke about this recently. I'm starting to question the accuracy of our temp recording.

Dan, I'm in the same boat as him. He and I both measure our trans temps using Torque Pro App via OBDII. We think the reading is coming from the pan, not the torque converter. My trans temps never hit 160. Lately they have been around 120 or even less. Not sure what to make of this. No aftermarket trans cooler for me.

There’s 2 transmission fluid temp sensors in most of these transmissions. I’ll check mine real quick and see if ones higher than the other

Ok, looks like there’s a pan temp and a converter temp. After a day of driving pan temp is about 135. My torque converter hits 170-180 when driving.

Atf temp 1 appears to be pan.
Atf temp 2 appears to be converter. (Or before cooler then after)

Speculations I’m just going off what I see on the scan tool

I just looked at mine again to show you the steps and I took some pictures of wiring it up from the rear license plate but realized I can’t open my truck yet to show you were the parking and reverse wire from the radio splice in because I just primed my windshield pinch weld and have it taped up, but if I pull it off tomorrow I will take pictures and I can help if you have questions on what wire goes where. I have that exact head unit. 4573CA11-33FD-4EE1-9BC5-11B019FAA6AB.jpgDBA712B4-FE9A-4E35-B0A0-7EEA9413E99E.jpg

Ones factory color the other is yellow? And you have more yellow tint for them? Sorry just making sure I know. Does the tint come off? How’s the oxidation on them? Thank you

Got my Cover Kings from AutoAnything installed today. Really happy with how they turned out. Went with the thicker neoprene version to get some more padding on the worn driver seat. They fit and feel great!

Thanks for this. I’m wondering if ambient temperature has skewed my levels. Last I checked in the fall during the high ambient heat and the fluid level was in the hot range on the stick (engine running). Today was cold and its reading in the cold range. I don’t have these really cool gadgets to read my temps so I have to go by feel.

I know for sure the engine was warmed up as she was idling for 10 minutes and the RPMS in park were 750 (settled into non choke idle status). I’ll mull things over tonight. Transmission is shifting really good so I’m not too worried about this.

Don't know if you recall but after my fluid change few weeks ago I posted a pic of dipstick showing somewhere between cold/hot and was suggested to add a qt. So far I have not because I am mulling also because like yours, it's shifting really good. In fact, drove to Nashville yesterday and the whole way I was very impressed how sweet she sounds as the flowmasters hum....leaving well enough alone for now :)

Tomorrow will be spent checking the fluid level dead cold ambient and working it from there.

Operation Zzzzzttt! will commence as all parts are delivered.

In conjunction, the truck seats and door panels are coming out for another finishing round of carpet insulation and finalization of interior trim painting.

Yeah one set of bulbs is normal white and came on the truck, one is yellow, the Lamin-X should come right off and should also be re-usiable, just add a little water and stick em on. The lenses are not oxidized.
