I SC'd mine along with some other mods simply to make a better towing platform. The reality is my slowest mustang...1999 SVT Cobra N/A full bolt on's making a little over 300whp out accelerates my 450ish whp SC'd truck simply because it weighs 1800+ pounds less. If all out performance is your primary goal there are much better platforms than these three ton trucks.

My MPG remains the same, about 10-11 mpg on the hwy. I went from 87 with oem tune to 91 OVTune.

Keep in mind The Truck weighs 8000lbs and I have 37s and 4:88 gears

The base tune you sent me 2 weeks ago does not have gear lock in S mode. I have to press the tow/haul button to get gear lock to work. Is S mode gear lock something that you will be sending me in the future??

Im sorry, Im a little confused. What is the difference between GearLocking and DirectShift???

Yes, the throttle limits in 1st/2nd while in 4wd work great! and the shift patterns when hitting it hard off road work well too.

Removing the throttle limits while in 4wd in reverse would be helpful also

Okay to cover all the topics:
S mode gear lock is still in progress for some ECUs
s mode gear lock means, you move the lever to S mode, you can lock a gear out from downshifting.

DirectShift is all new, nobody has it except me and one other person who got it today (probly a member here).
DirectShift works by giving you unlimited gear control.
I just finished the code for it last weekend, and it wasn't even going to be a feature but it's so nice on this truck it's absolutely one now.

If you know how stock S mode works, you know that when you shift up or down, it won't always do it when you click it. It does it when it wants to.

With DirectShift it does it right away, no limitations at all.
It also shifts much faster than normal. You can full throttle row through the gears very, very quickly and without hesitation. When you shift, it shifts, every time.

That being said, when you try to shift stupidly, like going into 6th at 20mph, it wont allow it.

DirectShift does come with some cautions:
    1. Shifting crazy (up down up down up down just to see if it can) may harm the transmission
    2. If you hold the shift up, it will shift each gear at the lowest rpm it can, all the way to 6th
    3. If you hold the lever down it's going to throw you into the lowest gear for that speed, and it's abrupt.

I will have a feature video that will go over everything.

The DirectShift down control is probably the most awesome.
    Say you're in S6,
    Hold the lever down,
Truck will put you into S3, or even S2,
Continue to hold the lever and accelerate as hard as you want
    Let off the lever
Truck will put you into one gear lower than your start (S5 in this case).

Click the lever down equals go down one gear
Hold the lever down, you can launch/ accel, then go back to the one gear down after.

I requested to have Direct Shift added to my tune this past weekend thru zendesk.

So for example, I'm drivng on the freeway on 6th gear. Then, I proceeded to exit. Do I downshift to the appropriate gear as the truck is slowing down to stop on the STOP sign or will it downshift itself all the way to 1st gear?

Just wondering if this works like having a manual transmission.

If you just decelerate from 6th and you don't do anything else, the truck will still downshift on it's own. it won't stall or be stuck in 6th. but it will do it's downshifts at very low rpm, around 1100-1200 rpm.

I can't imagine a reason not to have it. The last email I send detailed out my request pretty well and I dont want to bog you down with emails. Can you just add that to mine, or do I need to request it formally? Thanks!

@OVTune I sent in data logs for a tune revision a little over a week ago. The direct shift option has come out since then. I would really like to have this feature as well added to my tune revisions. order #5100.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Sounds like "s mode gear lock" and "direct shift" are pretty similar? Both will hold whatever gear you choose, correct? Sounds like direct shift just shifts faster. Or am I missing something?

Will you be sending me another base tune with "s mode gear lock", or do I have to request it or something?

I don't know why people are so bent on numbers, There is a lot more to driveability than power.

Good gravy... So more hp. More tq. Faster shifting. Have you looked at the Dyno sheet?

One could only think if a of those have increased, a vehicle would move from 0 to 60 faster than before.

Everything you asked about is improved as I and most everyone else implied. From a stop...More power and faster. From a roll...more power and faster. I haven't actually done a 1/4 mile run, but from 20mph to 100mph full throttle pull...guess what...More power and faster :) Did I do any of these with a stop watch...Nope...But I have enough time/miles on my rig to see and feel the difference. And make no mistake it is a noticeable difference. Driveability improvements alone would make this tune worth it to some I imagine.

As far as risk vs reward goes everyone's opinion will be different. Ive been stock, TRD and BD tuned before going with OVTune and it is by far the best tune yet. Again my opinion, and you always have the ability to flash back to stock(included).

Thanks for stopping by the thread, and I hope you find what you are looking for...

a lot of added risk for very little benefit. Alright.
We have our dyno results, on page 1. Same thing that any other tuning shop offers (dyno results).
We have our additional custom features, that nobody else on the planet can provide, without them writing the code them self.
    Free updates, etc
We've even shown our tune beats competitors tunes out there (page 1 again).
and our option is cheaper than most others.

The only thing that is real con in our option is adding new ECUs and writing the code for it can be slow. Also part of that is since we developed the features, we went from tuning about 10 trucks to over 100 in just a few weeks...

Our features, support, and continued development speaks for itself.

Im not claiming acceleration improvement only because I dont test it. Im sure its there if tested.,

I was wondering this as well. I was just on their website and under the FAQ's page it says each vehicle has to pay license fee.

@OVTune How much is the fee? Do you guys have any plans to support or start work on 4Runners? Our Tundra and 4Runner are both 19's. Would be cool to get both tuned by you guys. Of course that is if its beneficial to have the 4Runner tuned. Haven't even started looking into that cause its the wife's ride.

Got my updated tune flashed last night and the shifting is MUCH improved! Now to find the name of the Flash Manager program so I can remove it from Add/Remove Programs, could not find it. Anyone know the name of it? I could be blind in one eye and can't see sh*t out of the other o_O

You guys crack me up

I went from 87 oem tune to 91 OVTune and I didnt feel any gains in acceleration or HP and MPG remains the same.

HOWEVER, The Truck drives WAY better. The shifting is vastly improved. Off road it chooses gears very well and the throttle limits greatly improved the performance in deep sand. On the hwy it doesnt hunt for gears anymore and cruising feels like a stock truck again.

The tune is worth the price. Its not a quick process, but worth it in the end. I'm very happy.

Now. If I can get the damn logger working so I can send Mat some logs we'll see if I can get some improvements to the power band.

FYI, Im running stock intake and exhaust and The Truck weighs 8000 lbs and has 37" tires and 4:88 gears

I hear you and understand what you are saying. I was not saying it was as noticeable as when I added the SC, but after a couple of tune revisions the throttle response was improved and the truck felt quicker and more responsive. At close to 5800# my SC CrewMax is over a ton lighter than yours :) Just sayin...

Agreed that the overall drivability...shifting, power and the extra features alone make the tune worth the investment

Sry didnt mean to lump you in with the others. I agree with you, everyone is fixated on numbers. Like anyone can feel +5hp

"more hp. More tq." "More power and faster"

Thats the shit that cracks me up

I can see how someone with a SC might gain enough HP to feel it.

And Im sure that there are dyno charts to show HP improvements.

But I am simply trying to be the voice of reason here. For a normally aspirated truck, I didnt feel any power gains. but then again, I didnt expect to. I didnt buy this tune for HP. I bought it so it would drive better. And it does

Yeah Alex this is my experience so far also. My trucks just feels better and is more fun to drive. MPG’s haven’t changed.
