I took the opportunity to
1: Clean my headliner. (Tuff stuff cleaner and clean sponge)
2. Grease ( White lithium) my door hinges and door latches, hood hinges and hood latch, window motor gears, window track, and lubricate (silicon spray)and clean all window seals, and door handles as well as the handle cable balls.
3.Replace creaky door check.

All these things require the door panel to come off so I did full maintanence in there. Between the sound proofing and greasing my windows don't make any noise while operating and they move smooth and steady. Not like before where I was getting a chattering as the window rolls down due to grime in the system.

Ok a few tips:
1. Take lots of pictures. I had to reference them many times during re-install of truck components.

2. Work organized: I would remove a trim piece and wrap the hardware (if any) in masking tape and then tape it to the trim piece. Then I would write on the tape "Left hand b-pillar top" or whatever it was. This made re-install go amazingly fast.

3. Wear gloves that cover your wrists! The door panel is sharp and I sliced myself good a couple times. Once was right on the front of my wrist by my veins. Not fun.

4. Take your time. You don't want to be doing any of this again. If your adhesive fails on the sound mats you will have problems. Example, door mats come loose and stick to your window. Good luck cleaning up,that mess. Or roof mat falls and weighs down your headliner. Prep is key!

5. If your outside you can throw some moving blankets over the cab and windshield to keep the sun from reflecting off the sound sheets and blinding you. It also helps with heat or cold if that applies.

6. Order a universal fastener kit for your truck because you will break some stuff. I bought one for 15 dollars on Amazon and it had all types. Also I broke one dash speaker grill and one bolt cover on the oh shit handle. No biggy.

7. Wear clean latex gloves for headliner work. That thing gets dirty fast. I would also vacuum and clean the interior and make sure you have the area clean. You don't want it accidentally touching and adhesive which brings me to my next point.

8. Cover the edges of sound mats with noico tape. That butyl is so sticky and will leak out. You don't want it on the underside of your carpets or headliner.

9. Don't cover any wires on your ceiling. Pull them all down (pictures!) and then retape them up over the sound mats. This will keep them cool and allow you to repair without removing the sound mats if needed.

The sound is amazing. It's not obscene but really clear and full. I love the bass! I ordered a Fix 86 to have more control over the sound and I'll update this thread once I get it installed.

Is the cab a lot quieter? Did it remove all the rattles out of the door? I just bought a new platinum and although the system isn’t that strong it rattles the shit out of the plastic components in the door.

 

Yes It has no more rattles and sounds tight. The cab is amazingly quieter, when I’m next to loud big rigs on the highway they sound far away. You most likely don’t need to go this far but the door sound matting is fairly easy without having to remove the seats or anything complicated. The door panels come off in about 3 minutes. You can also put the sound deadener on the plastic door panels, door lock mechanisms and window motors to quiet them all down while you’re in there.

 

I used one box each of sound mats and heat mats for all four doors. Double cab.

Wow you did a great job man. Thanks for the comprehensive post and pics. I did full sound deadening in my truck and a system from James. I love it and don't regret a thing. It was all well worth it. One thing I have yet to do is the dreaded roof sound matting, its been about a year since I did my system and over a year since I started sound deadening. I want to use a little noico 80mil and that noico green foam stuff but am just not wanting to pull the headliner. I know it'll make a huge difference and not doing it is a job half finished which drives me nuts. So how bad was the headliner job? Everyone says its brutal and I can see why, it's a lot of work and effort. You're a better man than I for going full out on this. Maybe talk me into doing my roof, cuz I'm procrastinating like crazy, like I said it's been over a year since I did other sound control.

 

So much work but I’m hoping to ever have to go into the interior again so I did all I could. Besides researching and buying everything I needed, I believe it took me around 40hours work to do this by myself.

Thanks dude! I honestly was scared to do it but it’s not too hard just tedious. There was a little rail in the front that I had to permatex back onto the back of the headliner because the factory adhesive was already getting brittle!

Other than that use plastic tools and lots of patience. I would never do the job with one person again. I put a tiny hole in it trying to get the passenger grab handle off and had to scrape some fibers from the outside edges and do a tiny touch up but you can’t even notice it right by the handle, which was the worst part to remove.

Be prepared to buy a piece of you have to because I wish I would have just drilled out that handle and installed a new 30 dollar one for the trouble it cause me.

With all that being said MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! My install was in summer and I sweat it out! When I removed the headliner I got hit with radiating heat from the roof! Like a slap in the face. It’s steel, what can you expect? It’s probably Baking at over 140degrees all day in the summer. I put moving blankets over the cab to kill some of the heat but I was pouring sweat. After I got the sound deadening on I started the heat sheets and at some point I was like “Oh my gosh I’m semi comfortable in here!” It was like being under an EZ up outside instead of feeling like an oven. It was Drastic! The truck is also a lot quieter in the rain and wind now and I’m confident that it’s the reason my AC pumps so hard now. It used to kinda lag in cooling down the truck, like it would take 10 minutes to kill the summer heat if the truck was in the sun sitting a while. Now it takes a couple minutes and I have to adjust it down. I highly recommend it. I read if you just lay your seats flat you can drop the headliner and leave it in the truck if you want but makes it hard to work around. It’s flexible so just have a place for it (wear clean latex gloves) and get it out of the way. Great time to clean. You got this!!

Headliner is held on with pressure clips as is the cargo lamp and dome along with some screws. Then just remove the clothes hangars and roof handles, and visors and it should pop out from behind the moldings with some pressure. I think a few trim pieces too.

This is on my list for this fall/winter...where I can have the truck in the garage and it not be 2000 degrees...

Did you use any other sound tiles in addition to/ under the Noico?

 

No I put a layer of the 70 mil butyl noico followed by a layer of the 170 mil thermal barrier Noico. That’s it. It already weighs a bunch so I didn’t want to go too crazy since it’s not even a competition system. I think it’s just perfect for what I was going for. Some guys do a rubber layer after but seems the clearance would be tight. Definitely wait until it cools down but not too much as the heat helps the product bond and helps you manage it while installing. I set my sound tiles in the sun for a half hour before I started cutting and fitting them and it made it easier.
