Where/how did you rewire pin 5? For me, if I leave pin 5 as is, the puddle light stays on. If I run pin 5 to an actual ground it works. However, when I have pin 5 run to an actual ground I get the BSM error. Do both mirrors have to be rewired in order to not get the BSM error? (I haven't done the other side yet)

So I don't have an answer yet... I left the wires for the puddle disconnected because I had the same problem. The others with a "solution" did not have BSM to contend with as we do.

My thought was to try and run dedicated wire from the door to the puddle light. I think we are going to have to leave pin 5 alone for the BSM and find a solution for the puddle lights that involve dedicated ground. There are open pin slots so it should not be too hard and I found out how to remove the glass and get into the mirror so the hard part will be passing through the mirror assembly...

^ the puddle lights are nice and I plan on getting to them but the power fold was a must for me to get the truck in the garage, and the BSM I like so it was an easy decision to hold off on the puddle until I have time, the wires are ran. I even have auto dim but not connected either...

haha ok. I'm the opposite... Never really had BSM so hard to miss it. I had the same garage issue so thats a must for me too. But I put expensive ahh (but nice and worth it now that I have them) VLEDS in the puddle lights. I was hoping to fix this and stop being lazy but it appears I'm back to square 1 (aka lazy) because I'm not about to run dedicated wires for the puddle and everything else thats involved with that. I already have a ground ran but still.

So I just did a random test to see if the puddle lights would actually stay on... After 20 minutes to the second, you can hear a click come from the truck and the puddle lights shut off with it. I'm going to connect the other side and see if this solves BSM/Puddle light-gate. If this does work, because I'm running leds in the puddle lights, I may run with this as they shouldn't drain much power. It's almost as if the truck cut all power precisely for cases like this.

Scratch that. Puddle light would even stay on when driving. Back to the drawing board.

you can fix the puddle lights by bringing the wire into the cabin under the dash and tying them into the foot well light, that's what i did. not saying it's the only way, but it's an option to get them working correctly.

I tied my puddle lights into the footwell also. They stay on when you shut the truck down, then dim out after 30 seconds along with th edome lights.

I'm assuming both of you do not have BSM becuase that doesn't work.... they still stay on when you have bsm on pin 5 shared.

If you connect a light to the footwell light, it will function with the footwell. run two new wires from the footwell, to the light bulb in the mirror, skipping the factory wires all together.

the door jam is a breeze, I think you are missing what I’m saying getting the wires from the inside of the mirror into or past the connector on the mirror itself. If I’m missing something please help :)

haha I'll try to help clear this up for them. The puddle lights are terminated to the back of the connector INSIDE the mirror. The ground of the puddle light shares pin 5 (which is the problem). Only way to run separate wires is to take apart the mirror and remove the connector and figure out a way to get past it.

Thank you :) that is what I was trying to explain there is literally a firewall in the mirror it'self to pass a wire through! And I'm not about to try taking the housing apart without knowing how...

You can run two wires to the spot where the puddle lights go, it is not difficult, I did it, as did many people on this forum. the hardest part is getting the wires through the shaft where the mirror pivots. taking the mirror apart isnt hard. With the glass out there is a ton of room.
    its not a 'firewall' lol

I have run 4 wires into the mirror, people do it all the time

you dont have to 'go through' this connector. This was the picture I took before running the 4 wires. Just take the mirror off, take it apart. I think I went next to the connector and I went through plastic inner inside panel of the mirror and just used some butyl to seal up around the loom of wires i added. These are tiny lights, use tiny wires 18-22ga.

I've had the mirror (the glass that is easy) off I saw no way to pass a wire through and I'm not seeing it in your pics

Here is the other side, with the puddle light on the outboard part of the mirror and you can see the signal glass (above post), has its own set of wires too. Only removing the 3 screws and pulling the mirror from the truck isnt going to cut it, you have to open up the mirror. I would start with removing the glass since its easy, and work backwards. good luck.

I've had the mirror assembly on the bench, removed the glass and stared at it for 1/2 an hour and figured I would bust it trying to take it apart even this pic isn't showing me anything new :(

it's not because i did it 4 years ago and I dont remember the details which means it was a pretty unremarkable task. May need to drill a hole through the plastic inside panel, seal with with butyl and pass the wires through, you are not committed to using the factory connector, there is no "wall", its just plastic. drill it with a step drill if you need to.

On our trucks the cabin lighting uses a modulated ground from the ECU to dim and turn off the lights, which is why your LEDs are staying on all the time. You need to bring the wire into the cabin and connect it to the dome / footwell circuit.

yep I know what to do with the wire once it is through, but you are confirming my thoughts, it’s not a disassemble and reassemble. I prefer not to make irreversible mods. Technically I can slap the old mirrors back on lol

thank you like I said I’ll get back to it and share what I come up with.

I’m about to do this mods. I have the same situation as some of you, need to park in tight
Garage. Anyway where you all get the mirror control unit from other than dealer?

You really only have two options if you want to maintain certain features. You can pay an arm and a leg from the dealer for new mirrors for a specific year that has what you want/ need, or luck out and find a used set like I did ($350 for a set off a platinum 2016). You can go with an after market however you will not have as much of an option to get the features you may want. I was going to go aftermarket but wanted to retain BSM and heated which wasn't offered for a folding mirror. My specifics may be off :)
