Heavy front bumper. What suspension upgrades needed?

Good afternoon,
I installed RoughCountry front end bumper and now can tell for sure front end is sagging a bit. Not sure by how much. Previously I had camper shell installed on my crewmax and it sort of got more squat on the rear evening out the truck. But now the front is compressed again. I also feel that the truck is heavier.

What is weird is according to RC website it is only a 97lbs bumper. Not sure what OEM weight is. But cant be that much lighter. Something tells me it is not 97lbs. Has got to be more.

Anyways. Sorry for long winded explanation.

What can I upgrade upfront to not feel that my nose is plowing.
Shocks/Springs? What brand is best suited for more weight?

Should I also replace ball joints?

 

There are a few good options for your heavy front bumper. I have heard that the Old Man Emu/ARB shocks and springs are very well suited to an application with a heavy front bumper. I have not run them myself though, so don't have firsthand knowledge.

Also, Falcon shocks have a height adjustment on the shock body specifically for heavy bumpers and winches.

I'm sure there are many other great options as well and hopefully others with experience with some of them will jump in here.

 

The only thing you really need for a heavier front bumper is a heavier spring. I believe that the stock Tundra spring is 550lbs/in, so something in the 650- 700lb range would be perfect.

Personally, I use a 700lb front because I wanted to add in a heavy bumper AND a winch.

 

What would you suggest for an all around Heavy Duty kit with a mild lift of no more 1.5-2.5 inches

 

OME 614s for the exact use

 

With OME 612 (comes with the shortest coils) and the heavy bumper, you may get tad less than 3 inches. For 1.5-2.5 inches, you may want to look into Bilstein 5100.

 

Are we talking just springs, or springs/shocks? If just springs, I'd say 650lbs... If you want new springs and shocks (a mid-travel kit) there are a ton of options. The OME kit that Showtime references seems ok, but if you want a bit more performance, King/Fox/ADS/Icon would be the way to go.

Do I need Adjustable Upper Control Arms for OME they offer it. Also do I need Top Mount Kit or should I use OEM?

Also for Bilstein options there is a whole 700lbs kit right here.

The OME setup is the best bang for the buck and will fix your front end sag. UCA's not needed with the OME

Yeah, that's not a bad option.
If you aren't going to be doing fast extended dirt sections (vs more reasonable speeds for just an hour or so) then that setup would be just fine.

 

I dont offroad. All highway and in city driving. Lots of long distance trips. So for me its about comfy ride.

 

Just searched around and my new bumper according to RoughCountry is 98 lbs
Oem Bumper is around 75lbs. I wonder if I am over reacting. Can it be that much difference with 23lbs over the nose ? Doubt it.
However I am getting OME 613. Will order in about a month. Thanks to everyone for their help!

 

I used a pair of bilstein 6112's on their lowest setting after I put my ranch hand bumper on. After the struts the front was about a half inch higher than stock and the ride is the same as stock.

If your bumper is only 98 lbs, don't get 613. I have 614 and my truck is lifted about 3.5 inches in the front. I have aftermarket UCAs. (612 is the shortest, 614 is middle, and 613 is the longest coil). I would get 612 instead. Even with 614, there is a good chance you will need a set of UCAs. With 612, you probably won't need to get UCAs.
