DIY: Footwell LED install

Let me ask a lame question. I have a '16 CM limited edition and I don't have any lights on my driver side footwell. Maybe a burned out bulb or do the limited's not come with footwell lighting?

 

you should have one. probably a burned out bulb.

@TruckinIt vleds.com sells a kit already made. Easy install and looks great. You can do front and rear too. Very nice feature especially at night.

 

I have them in the footwell and under the driver and passenger seats with Velcro. I have white when the doors are opened and blue lights while driving. The blue lights are hooked up to a dimmer switch and had them hooked up for about a 2 years issues or no glare on the windows. These strips work good for those that don't have a soldering tool and fit perfectly under the seats and the footwells. Amazon has 4 30cm (11.8in) strips ($7 with free prime shipping) I also used 3M double sided tape ($6) and 18 or 20 AWG ($12).

 

Sweet!! Do you happen to have any pics at night with in the cab and from outside the cab with the doors open?

I second the VLED kit. Looks great, and couldn't be easier to install. you can daisy chain them off of the outlet under the driver side.

 

Thanks for the heads up brother. I'll check vleds.com out for the kit. My only question is do you just pull out the factory drivers side light from the back of the panel, unplug it and plug in the vleds.com kit?

just replace factory bulb with vleds adapter. Very easy to do. If it doesn't lit up, switch side (polarity)

So the pic you show is that the OEM bulb and blue and white OEM wires that show the whole the footwell pull that popped out of the lower console.

So I just splice into the blue and white wire with a red and black wire!

Also would I splice it the same in the diagram if I buy the kit from

Also if I go your route could I even run some led steps you mention,

out to the right and left N-fab steps and would I just tie that to into the OEM blue and white footwell wires?

I found it. It was such a freakin small a$$ bulb I didn't even see it.

 

I know this is a bit belated, but nice write up!

 

So if I run the same wire to right and left N-fab steps, they will turn on and off automatically when door opened and closed, thanks

Well dang.....my '13 CM Ltd doesn't have any footwell lights. That's surprising. I'll be looking for the wiring, though. It should be there up under the dash somewhere.

 

Are you sure there's no light under the driver's side footwell? That's what I thought about my '16 until I found it not under the footwell but where my left knee goes when driving the truck.
