Ok, after comparing the differences and similarities, and weighing opinions of reviewers and pros... I went Fat Bob's. Bang for the buck they seemed to win out. Bobs made me a deal I couldn't refuse, and these things are awesome. I can't compare to Toytec, but compared to the Bilstein yellows, and 5100s on my buddy's Tundra, these run right along side with them, if not better. I say better, because the ride is a cunt hair firmer. It feels like it helps with less body roll. So, starting with packing, they came to my door 6 days after ordering o a Friday evening, from Utah to PA. They arrived in a single box with molded foam sandwiching the parts. Two spanner wrenches, and the coilovers, pre-assembled. The install was straight forward, I replaced my brakes, (front rotors & pads) the whole job took about 4 (3-6:45) hours (including cleanup) It took a ltitle longer because I had some stubborn bolts, two guide pins had to be cut out of one caliper, and then a run to Autozone for new ones. Then both rotors had to be beat off of the hubs, as the 8mm jack bolt holes were rusted out. I replaced them with black electro-plated crossdrilled/slotted rotors, and ceramic pads, matched by StopTech. The reinstallation was straight forward. Everything fit perfectly, and tightend down right. The coilover are preset by FatBobs, I'm going to call tomorrow and see what it is, looks like 3ish inches, 40.5" fender to ground. Out back, I installed Bilstein 5100's, and adjustable shackles, on the middle holes (1.75") the ride is amazing, I'd like to go 1/4" more up front, but I'm just weird like that.

    Hey what’s up man.
So I’ve been looking at a 3.5” fat bob setup vs the toytec 3” boss system, trying to figure which would suite my needs better, and price vs price, obviously.

Did you go with a full kit or just the front shocks/coil overs?

I just got the front coilovers. The 3.5 did have the UCAs, but also spacers. I already had spacers, I wanted the tuned shocks and coils. The ride is unbelievable compared to stock with a spacer, definitly money well spent. Up to 3.25" doesn't require UCAs, anything over that does. I had shackles for the rear anyway, the blocks I had before were giving me axle wrap. Shackles put some arch back in the leafs, not just spacing the axle with a block. This is all just my opinion, I've been lifting and lowering things for about 20 years now.

    Right on man.

You happen to know anybody with the 3.5” from Bob’s?

For what I do, I don’t need anything crazy. Aside from camping a few times a year during the summer, she’s a concrete queen for sure. I like the toytec because it’s got rear shocks included, but whatever I get I’m going to get UCAs with it, just for alignment, canter, etc, but to include UCAs with the toytec kit puts it close to 2 g’s, whereas the kit from Bob’s would get me everything I need, plus an extra 1/2 inch, and would also let me get tires at the same time...

I was contemplating the same thing. I'm happy with my decision. I can do UCA's in the future, but for now it lines up right, and rides like a new truck.

Huge difference, the pedal is almost touchy now. Lately, Ive had to stand on the brakes, so these are a relief

The 3" can be safely adjusted higher to 3.5"... It can go more, but isn't recommended

    How are these holding up?
I am leaning toward Fat Bob's Version with the Bilstein 5100's.
The stance of yours looks good.

They corroded pretty bad after a year. I contacted them and they said that something about the salt spray testing and something had to have happened and they weren't treated properly. They sent me a new set to swap out, they have been awesome since.

It's been a while since . . . . how have the second set held up? Would you still recommend FBGs?

They held up great, I ended up with a 6" lift and needed to remove the FBG's because they didnt work out with the spacers on the 6". They were awesome struts though. I'd recommend them to anyone. I

Thanks, sometimes I wish I'd have left it alone at this point.

Idk, it was simple then. The 6" lift takes a little drivability away from the truck. I lost some turning radius, the 37's ride rough, and she wont hold an alignment. Most of all, I went with -24 offset wheels, and needed fender flares to keep the law off my ass. I hate flares! The truck is cool, just wish I'd done things a little different.

Sounds like this one needs to be your toy truck. Go buy a 2019 for your daily driver

She is the toy. It's my shop truck. I daily an A6, my 65 mile daily round trip commute would eventually kill her.

Ha! I just switched to my Tundra from my '12 A6! I love mine. Think I'm gonna sell the wife's Altima and let her drive the A6.

Also, you could grab CoachBuilders 1/4" shims and bump the front up a tad! No extra bolts needed or anything, just drop the coilovers, slide those in and re-bolt it all together.

I made my own spacers, I did 1/4 on one side, 3/8 on the low side. So it gave me 1/2 on one and 3/4 on the other. I just picked up my 2018 A6 after totalling my 2015 Passat.

No, they are well built. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. I was actually skeptical myself. When they came in, I couldn't wait to get them on. Greasable Ball Joints are nice on them too.
