Did the dealer lie to me about changing my brake rotors?!

    Hey guys.
I need a little advice. I brought my truck to the dealer because my brakes/steering wheel/whole trucks shakes and vibrates when braking. Vibration/shaking gets worse the harder I step on the brakes.

I just picked up my truck from the dealer and they said they replaced all 4 rotors but while driving home I experienced the same vibration/shaking.

When I got home I took a look at the rotors and it seems like they didn't change it at all. The rotors still look old and the center of the rotor has rust on it.

Please take a look at the attached picture and let me know what you think. I've changed a few rotors in the past and new rotors don't look like that.

    Thanks in advance!!

    No i did not pay.
I bought the used 3 weeks ago as a certified used vehicle and I complained about the vibration and 4wheel drive clicking when engaged.
When I picked it up today they said the replaced all 4 brake pads and rotors and they fixed my 4 wheel drive. 4 wheel drive seems fine.

That rotor pictured is NOT new, and not even resurfaced in recent history. Do the pads look to be new? You can see the outer rear pads very easily with the wheel on.

    Hahahaha!!!!

I'm gonna try to go to the dealership tomorrow morning when they open at 0700 and show them the rotors. I just don't want them to say the rotors are new and the rust is there because my truck was sitting out in the rain.

Did you get documentation showing the rotors were replaced, or was it verbal? They seem as crooked as a dog's hind leg at this point, keep us posted.

Looks like they did not bill on the brakes or rotors. My invoice states the tech confirmed vibration and recommends replacing pads and rotors.

The director of used cars assured me that he gave the ok to change my rotors and pads. The service advisor working with me stated they were changing it as well. When I got a call from the service department today I ask him to verify what was done and he said they changed it.
Take a look at my invoice.

These days, most dealerships are more concerned about adverse Yelp reviews versus calls to the BBB (which isn't even a government entity; businesses buy memberships to be included under their 'oversight'.)

My suggestion, if you feel that you aren't being taken care of, threaten an adverse review on Yelp. It becomes more personal and has more immediate effects towards their customer base.

Call Toyotas district manager. They can be hard to reach but a bad service score will hurt dealership that cares about Presidents Award and some other Toyota incentives. Maybe the dealer doesn't care and that's the real issue. I would go a step further if you can! Good luck!

Doesn't look like they were changed and the parts should have been charged out on the invoice if so.

Ask if you would talk to the tech.

Certified doesn't require the pads be factory but it does require that the pads be at least 50% life left. If I were the tech, between myself and the internal advisor we would have gotten the pads replaced with the factory pads and turned the rotors then charged sales for it whether they wanted to pay or not. Also, the technician who certified the vehicle would be shamed in the shop as a stand up POS.

^Agreed. For a tech and advisor - time is money and you don't want that truck coming back.

I remember when I was an advisor they hired the biggest POS Used Car manager who would turn down everything but the minimum. The guy went out and got a box of these crappy aftermarket keys because he was too cheap to buy OEM since cert's need to come with 2 keys. Always would bring us aftermarket rotors when a vehicle needed rotors, but we stopped at pads needing to be OEM since we would charge him everytime a vehicle came back with squeeking brakes.

Toyota has a known problem with rotors. I have experienced the same problem with vibration while braking in my wife's 07 Camry. The OEM rotors will warp and the vibration is the result. The warping happens from under use, as I was told. The Camry does not given driven allot so I can see that. But to make the long story short, get the rotors and pads changed and still punch them in the troat, LOL.
