I am pretty sure this has been asked before. What is peoples thoughts on remote start for a 14 Tundra, after market. Read about problems with factory system such as when door is opened the engine will turn off. What is the best, reasonably priced remote starter on the market? Will be installing myself.

I decided to buy the Fortin Evo One. waiting for it to arrive. I will post my results after install and give my opinion. On another note, does any one have the wiring schematic for a 14 tundra showing polarity of door controls, dome light etc.

I installed one yesterday from James Randy Taylor.it uses the factory remote works great and super easy install took about 2hrs total basic plug and play. Starts then stays running as long as you insert key to normal position within 15min or don't hit brake pedal before key.
He is a awesome guy to deal with also customer service is top notch.

I actually just installed genuine Toyota remote start kit in my 16 this morning. yes it shuts off when you open door but does that really matter. its 100% plug and play and oem. I have had aftermarket systems like the fortin in my camry it works ok but you have to cut wires and sometimes it did weird stuff. its a personal choice but I think oem is the way to go on a new vehicle. I am a professional technician ive taken out many aftermarket systems over the years because they failed and the car wont start. expensive for customer to have it removed and wiring repaired

I have been thinking about the Fortin, as they claim it's plug and play, too. How difficult was the OEM to setup... for a "normal" guy without technician level skills?

I looked at factory system and the engine shutting off when i open the door, i did not like. I have had many remote starts and this was kinda weird to me. The easiest remote start i had was for a GMC Serria. Basically had to buy new fobs and computer code to activate the remote starter in the software. Couldn't get any easier than that. The Fortin is almost plug and play as long as you purchased the t-harnes. After that there are four wires to connect with only having to cut one wire. Easy to restore to factory. I also solder evertyhing when i make a connection. Do not trust butt splices or t-taps. More to come after install.

I have the remote start on my 16 Limited from the factory. I wish I knew more back then as I would have had them take it off. It really is useless. I mean yes I can remote start my truck, but as soon as I unlock the doors to get in the truck it shuts off and I have to restart it. Just extra stress on the starter I would assume. I wish it was like my other one, but that would involve PTS.

The fortin with the the harness is half plug and play. you plug into main ignition harness but still have to cut I think 7 wires. the oem was super easy just plug it in where it tells you to and do a quick initialization procedure

Useless is extreme truck runs for 10 minutes so it's warmed up or cooled down, you jump in you gotta put your key in anyways so fire it up and go. the starter will be fine.

Ok, installed the remote start today. No problems, followed directions and everthing works as advertised. Love it, i did a clean install, all soldered and wire tied in place. Looks like a factory install.

I installed the Fortin Evo one with t-harness. It is a nice, easy setup. Got it off ebay from Anderson Electronics. It was preprogrammed with latest firmware and for model truck.

For both items, $169. It took me about 3 hours since I am anal retentive and took my time on the install.

Is the Toyota remote start a true plug and play? I dont want to have to cut any wires.

Not sure of the Toyota brand. The one I installed I had to cut one wire and splice 5 others.

@SDNY Can you post some directions?

This is SUPER helpful since I just got a quote to an ArticStart Edge 2X (Same as CompuStar T10) for $575 + taxed.

Wow, if you are looking for install directions, the Fortin Evo came with them. Hardest part was locating wires, but the color code and plug location was spot on. I purchased the Fortin Evo with the t-harness from Anderson Electronics on ebay. When you purchase you email him and tell make, model year of vehicle and it will come preprogrammed with the corrct settings for vehicle. Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I was looking for the wiring diagram BEFORE making the purchase (to see if I can do it or not) but the WireColor website only let you view the instruction if you have paid subscription.

I have it printed out and its ok, not the greatest sourse. I can see if I still have it as a pdf and i can send it you. I hardly used it, because the fortin came with all the info on there instruction sheet to include colors, plug location. I have installed viper and clfford in the days of circuit city and this fortin product was the easiest i have ever done.

    That would be GREAT.

If I decided to do it myself I will take notes along the way to help others later (I may ask you for help if that's OK).

I have to agree with the GMC comment. One of the nicest factory setups. Locks the doors, then starts, use the fob to unlock doors, insert key, turn on and go.

The shutoff when door is opened just sucks.
