What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yeah it is nice and allows me to mostly scratch my 3rd Gen itch without having to lay out the cash for one. Depending on how the next couple of months go, I may sell my truck even and just have the work truck and the wife's 4Runner.

 

In all honestly I would probably do the same if I could drive mine for personal use.

 

Can '05 - '06 ball joints be used on a '00 - '04?

 

No, the 05-06 use 17mm bolts to hold the ball joint to the spindle compared to 14mm on 00-04. Also possibly a larger ball joint size as well. You’d have to get new 05-06 spindles to use them at the very least.

 

Since I got the truck, it had a super annoying vibration/humming sound coming from the passenger dash area. Only does it when the truck is in D or R. Turned out to be the cold air intake tube rattling in the inner fender. I put some insulating material around the opening and... silence !

 

You’d need new control arms, spindles and ball joints. The uppers are thensame

 

If it makes you feel better that's how it broke off about 2 months ago

 

What would you do? It's gonna take a month if I go with the upgraded version

 

Have you checked to see if the upper and lower control arm bushings are bad? If they are still good and if it was my truck, I'd replace the upper and lower ball joint, outer tie rod and call it a day.

 

just ordered a new bushing to fix my sloppy column shifter.....will install tomorrow. And now as I look out the window at the tundy, I ponder whether I should bedliner the fender flares and front bumper. I wanna stay white and keep going back to the durabak. Any suggestions? Line-X wants $400 for black or $700 to 'color match ish' white.

 

you can order the bushing? the one that goes on the end of the cable?

 

Yeah, I think its like bushingfix.com or something. I need to do it but last time I looked I thought it was a little pricey for a piece of plastic no bigger than a fingernail.

Yep, its a spendy little $30 piece of plastic, but I'd rather not be stuck somewhere with my truck not able to shift into or out of gear. I bought it from bushingfix.com off Amazon so the shipping was free as well as fast.

Got the new peepers in. Gotta say, initially, I'm pretty impressed with these TYC lenses. Very close to OEM quality.

Ignore the neighbors s/c X-Runner.

 

How much you pay for those?

 

I got the CAPA certified ones for right at $100 ea. The NSF certified are around $90 ea but remember these are specific to a DC. AC lenses I have no clue about.

 

Figured I would spend this evening getting these headlights adjusted. I knew that I needed a Phillips screwdriver longer than any that I had to get to the vertical adjust screw so I stopped by Harbor Freight on the way home. It appears that Harbor Freight makes two lengths of screwdrivers.

Standard Length - This is the size that everyone who has ever held a screw driver should be familiar with. Though it may vary by manufacturer, each length is reasonable.

Comically Long - This screwdriver could double as a police baton. Wife nagging about a loose deadbolt? Never fear! You don't even have to get off the couch to cinch that baby up. I feel like the guy that made these was reading reviews on the last set of drivers that he designed and *maybe* someone complained about them being too short. Out of spite he says, "You want a long screwdriver, well I'll show you a long screwdriver."

On the other hand, they were only $5 and now the wife and I each have a new backscratcher if we ever need it.

Yeah, I left the Phillips in the truck when I decided to take the picture and didn't feel like wandering out to get it. Graciously for $5 you get both!

Sorry, I should have listed it. It's the Undercover Swing Case SC400P. Made for gen 2's but @Casper421 discovered they work for gen 1's also. I'm hoping the bed on his 06 is the same as mine.
