    Anyone that’s upgraded their sound system, is it worth it to upgrade the headunit?

    I don’t have a problem with my stock unit, but I know I’m going to have to invest $150 or so for a harness for the system to work with the factory unit, so just wondering if there are better options.

    I just want my rear camera, Apple car play, and all factory controls to continue to work...

    No point in upgrading anything if you don’t upgrade the head unit honestly. Just a head unit alone leave many people satisfied

    Cool. I think all I’m really concerned about is being able to get the most of out the system, retaining all factory controls, and I guess car play would be nice. Maybe even wireless carplay...

    Seen lots of people go with the Kenwood That @tbrown has or the Alpine Halo.

    Also I don’t agree with @cmiller219 if I understand him correctly. I upgraded all speakers, added two door sails, amp, and added a 10”sub, but kept the stock h/u.It made a night and day difference in overall quality and volume.

    A head unit is still on the list but I am still prioritizing upgrades. I’m at the chain effect point now :facepalm:if I’m going to do gears then I might as well do locker. Front bumper then winch. All before I install my 37s that are just mocking me in my storage unit.

    Mine is based off what would be the most important upgrade for the audio system. Our factory head unit output is trash. But a new one alone would change the sound and output greatly. Then build from there. They do have great option kits for the factory HU some are pretty pricey. Those door sails you added are what’s needed for sure. Speakers can be had pretty cheap these days depending on what you are looking for.

    But I’m sure we can both agree if you want the best out of it all a HU is deff a must.

    I love the factory navigation and want to retain that I couldn’t care less about all the other features as I know aftermarket would be better anyway

    @TuFerLife I upgraded mine to this one and its amazing. As far as I know I was the 2nd person to get one for a tundra on the forums. The speakers get louder now and sound better i can get way more bass out of the non JBLs. And I'm pretty sure I could blow them if I wanted too. So now I need to upgrade those.
