I have been browsing the numerous threads regarding front camera installations (FRAC) and I cannot seem to find anybody who has installed a front camera on a 2018+ Tundra. Since 2018 is when they changed the emblem to a sensor, I cannot use the camera most have used.

Any recommendations on cameras and mounting locations on a 2018+? I have a Pioneer headunit so interfacing to the radio is not a problem. Just need help with cameras and mounting location.

I originally mounted my front cam in the lower grille area, but didn't like how low it ended up being (red), so I fab'd an L bracket and used 3M tape to hang it below the TSS-P (green). I don't have a pic of the new mount, but I can get one in the morning if needed.

Thanks for the reply. That looks really clean and low profile. The only problem is that I have a 30" light bar going there this weekend. I have been on the fence about mounting a license plate front camera since I am in CA and already have 2 screw holes in the front bumper.

After you mount the 30" bar behind the grille, please post a pic or PM it to me. I'm on the fence about mounting one behind the honeycomb and contemplating getting an earlier SR5 grille / insert with the horizontal bars instead.

Sorry, i might have worded that poorly. I am mounting mine in the bumper. I am using Rough Countrys Tundra kit.

Here's where I ended up mounting it. The viewing angle is better on the head unit than with it mounted on the lower grille.

The third (and hopefully now final) time I redid it, I routed the cable wrapped in wireloom along the TSS wires, mounting the 4 pin plug for the camera with the TSS disconnect at the top of the grill. Same with the other end of the cable, just zip tied the loom along the large wire loom bundle in front of the radiator. For the mount, just make sure the L bracket fits in the indention of the honeycomb and use a spacer if you need it to fit the camera body over the lip. I didn't take pics as I was putting it together, but if I end up taking the grille off any time soon I'll snap one.

Do you all use the company “anytime backup camera” to hook these front cameras up or do you have a different company you use?

I believe what you are referring to is for stock head units. I have a pioneer so I should be able to interface directly with the Pioneer Headunit without an issue.

Did you interface with a stock head unit or do you have an aftermarket one?

Aftermarket. Was going to go the FRAC harness route, but decided to put that money towards a full replacement instead.

How's the quality of view you get from the front camera, same as what we see from the back-up cam? I've got a 2019 and agree this is something that's badly needed.

I believe @azTony has a front camera on an 18 honeycomb grill also

I haven't found a good place on the limited/1794 grill due to how thin the slats are

How did you secure the L bracket to the grill? Did you have to glue it?

I used some 3M tape. Seems to be holding for now, but gets a little soft when it heats up, especially in 115 degree heat right now... I need to come up with a better solution soon.

Thanks For all the info. I'll soon add camera also. My question is about your pioneer. Do you like it compared to the oem and did you retain all the stock functions or if not, what did you lose. I have the taco tunes system and sounds great, but I know the head unit is our weak part of this truck. So im thinking of changing out the unit but dint know which one to buy

I just installed a new Kenwood unit. Works with their dashcam and I installed a front cam in the grill too.

I was able to get a picture of the back of the grill via screen grab watching someone on YouTube. I have mine mounted using a Screen Door Panel Clip from ACE Hardware. I had to cut the end off with a hacksaw (pink scribble on the picture), but it grabs the grille from behind real well. I was also able to install it without removing my grille, as my arms are skinny. I popped the square access panel off on the top right side of the grille. A couple M8 1.25 nuts (one with a flange to make it thicker and one without), a screen door clip and a drill bit to make the slot on the screen door clip just a little wider.
