Here's what my interior looks like now with the AJT shift and temp control knobs.

How hard was it to pop the chrome trim off?

So I completed my install, but think it looks kind of crunched up, did you guys trim the boot to eliminate some of the excess? I'm considering a trim... What do you think?

Jim, to pull the silver trim off, do i just use a plastic pry tool and work my way around. Or is there another way.
    Thanks

Sorry for the delay Jim, I was out of town for a bit. I got the wheel from Vivid Racing. Their link has much better pics than I could ever take.
    https://www.vividracing.com/toyota-...-oem-upgraded-steering-wheel-p-152408188.html

It wasn't cheap, but I put about a thousand miles on my truck in the last week and the wheel felt great.

I was familiar with the changeover, so it took about a half hour to swap the wheel over.
I did have to take it to my friend's alignment shop though, as the wheel wasn't centered. It needed some adjustments in the steering components which isn't uncommon.

Just be careful with the clock spring. They're $400 to replace and very fragile.

Wow, that is expensive. That is one good looking steering wheel. It's out of reach for me right now, maybe sometime in the future. Thanks for the link.

Same here, will try again this weekend. I also plan to trim the bottom before it meets any threads as well. There is plenty of material under the trim panel.

Do I need to cut the white plastic at the bottom of the shifter? How do you get the boot and the bottom of the knob to stay together?

Yes, if it's the Tacoma TRD shifter. Doing that allows the boot to sit closer to the shifter handle. Just shave it enough for the chrome ring on the boot to fit snugly on the bottom of the new handle.

I did not cut the white pieces on the Tacoma knob. I cut the zip tie holding the ring on the new boot to remove the chrome ring, and then used a new small zip tie to secure the boot directly to the white plastic pieces(they seem to have a ridge intended for that). Had to screw the knob on first and then tuck in the boot through the trim, then secure the trim, but it seemed to work.
