285/70r18 Nitto Ridge Grappler

Have the original Michelin 275/65r18

Put on 5100's all around

front = Top setting
back = 5100 with Toytec shackle set at 1.5"

I'm hoping for a match on Falken 275/70r18 from a national chain (~$175)

Just wondering if I should go up to 75's or keep the gas mileage good and stay with 70's

I have a lot of space to fill in my wheel wells but I like the look of the TRD rim so I'm keeping them.

 

285/75

I'm in the same situation, factory 275/65-18's are almost done and truck sits at 2.5"/1.5". I am considering 285/65-18 Dick Cepek as they spec at 33" tall as opposed to most others that spec. 32.6".





Saw this truck when I was at a local dealership. looked like a 2" spacer lift maybe a little more. 285/65-18 tires.


I'd go bigger just don't want to deal with some of the issues.

 

I think/hope the 285/75r18 will clear my stock UCA, but I bet I will have to trim my skid plate and possibly the front splash guards.

My paint is so soft I don't want a lot of the tire sticking out...

 

285/75 will definitely look good. Just use them as an excuse to get one of these, or RCI Skid, then you don't have to trim:

I also like the TRD alloys. I go back and forth on possibly running spacers for a little wider stance.

 

I was hopeful that I wouldn't have to. I don't know if running 285/75 if I will need to.... Anyone?

 

Well.... I bought the Nitto Trail Grapplers 285/75r18. They had 200 miles on them and someone brought them back to Discount Tire and ordered bigger tires.

Sold them to me for $200 each with add-on's for lifetime balanced and rotation and replacement ($50/tire)+ tax + install = $1100

Total cost per tire = ~ $280 per tire

Get them put on tomorrow. The Nitto's get good reviews so I am hoping for the best. Please no rub a dub rub...

Went a little safer route with the 285/70r18 instead of 75. I have a little rubbing on the skid at full turn = easy fix.

2nd this!!! Just installed a set of Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/75/18, really filled out the wheel well nicely

 

Just went with 285/70/18 Yokohama Geolander MT and I really like them, filled wheel wells in good. Don’t think they look small.

 

Have you measured your rear? Looks way more then 1.5. I got 285/75r18 on stock rims with only the skid plate rub on full crank. Im 3/2 and your rear looks way higher

 

I have been considering those Yoko's in that size. Any chance you can post a few more full size pics of your truck and what your suspension set up is? Thanks in advance!

 

It has 6112’s set at 1.9 on front.
Rear is not lifted but added 5100’s.
Wheels are Method NV +25 offset.
I will tell you it drives and handles better than the stock suspension.
I did have to trim front mud flaps take off splash flaps on the front and I do have slight rub on drivers side front liner I’m not sure if I’m going to push liner forward, add the CB bumper shims, or just try heat gun. Hopefully I can get to it soon. The truck sets about 1/4 high in the rear was going to recheck numbers after I get some more miles on it.

I saw you put the 5100's on the top setting. How's the ride compared to stock TRD with the new tires?

 

Just put on Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/75/18 slight rub on the front mud flap so i removed it. Now at full lock there's just enough clearance, no rubbing

 

I had Toytec shackles installed on top setting because I wanted some rake. My bed is usually full of tools or I am towing and thus weighted down.

 

The ride with the 5100's on top setting with the stock light truck tires was smooth as butter. It just looked a little funny with the small tires.

The ride with the 5100's with the new tires is definitely stiffer. Not bad. But it went from what my wife said as "rides like a car" to "rides a little rougher" - I had to play with the tire pressure to find the sweet spot.

I know almost everyone goes with middle setting plus shims. I do go off-road a lot. However, I take it slow and easy because I'm usually in places where I'm not on trails. Just fields and forest and some Kansas canyons.

 

You need wheel spacers in a bad way......your wheels are tucked in. Spacers would make your stance look alot better. I run a +1 offset and have Bushwackers.

 

I don't use spacers any more because I went with the +1 offset. They are Spidertrax and were only used for about a month. Now they have been sitting in their boxes in the garage.
